From then onwards Max and Monica became friends but will their friendship really last??
Half way through lunch, there was a huge commotion at the table to their right.
The cause of the commotion was a senior student who caught her boyfriend cheating and was now strangling his new girlfriend due to anger.
There was one odd thing which is the way the fight was progressing. When people fight, they do so with anger and without restraint but the two girls were obviously advancing towards Monica's table.
Everything happened too quickly that no one was able to react in time, except for Max of course.
The ex girlfriend grabbed a hot cup of steaming coffee and threw it at the other girl. It was obviously threw in Monica's direction but no one noticed as the girl was close to Monica.
Just when Monica was about to be bathed in coffee, Max flew right in front of Monica as the coffee collided against his back.
It was a painful sight for onlookers but Max didn't flinch even with the unbearable pain.
"Are you okay?" He asked Monica who fell on the floor when he tried to save her.
"I'm fine...your back..."
"Never mind I'll be alright" Max interrupted her as he helped her to her feet.
The whole cafeteria was like a grave yard as nobody dared to breath aloud.
The two girls involved in the fight were shaken with fear when Max gazed at them.
Max already noted something suspicious with their fight but he was now convinced that it was all an act.
" I..I'm...s..o..r..r..y" the girl who threw the coffee trembled as she took two steps back.
"Who sent you" Max questioned with a frightened expression. A 14 years old boy has a gaze that sent chills down that of a 17.
"I..It...was an a..ccident...I...I didn't do it on purpose" the girl stammered.
"You will pay" Max concluded with an intimidating voice as he took Monica out of the cafeteria.
On their way out, they ran into Kiarra who was hidden in a corner watching the drama unfold.
"You did this didn't you" Max questioned with an angry glare.
"Maxi...why do you think I'll do such a thing" Kiarra said trying to look innocent.
"Enough...I know you have always liked me since first grade and you have been trying every disgusting way possible to make me notice you"
"At grade 3 when you broke Sam's ankle so you could dance with me..."
"When you pushed Daisy at summer camp so you could be my game partner..."
"How far will you go for me to notice you. Let me make one thing clear to you right now..."
"If I ever discover you do anything like this ever again then you will pay" Max recalled one event after another before he left Kiarra red in embarrassment.
After finding a quiet hallway, Monica pulled Max into an empty class and shut the door.
After checking around for somethings, she stepped out and returned some minutes later with a first aid kit.
"Sit and take off your shirt" Monica commanded Max without leaving a room for argument.
Max hesitated for a bit before taking off his shirt. Monica ears were red as she tried to concentrate while applying the medicine to his wound.
"Does it hurt" Monica asked as she applied the medicine in a gentle manner.
"I'm sorry you had to witness this, Kiarra is a family friend and has been persistent in pursuing me even after I rejected her.
I think she now targets you as you are around me" Max said in a guilty voice. He knew if he hadn't reacted in time she would have been burnt really badly.
"Its not your fault...I should be thanking you for saving me not you apologising...besides I'm not your girlfriend so why would she take me as a competitor" Monica said not understanding how strong her words were.
"Yes...we are just friends" Max said in a somewhat disappointed voice.
Meanwhile, Kiarra who stormed to the washroom was crying due to the horrible things Max said to her.
Max had never spoken to her in such a harsh tone before and now because of a newbie, he yelled at her and even embarrassed her in the presence of Monica.
How could she take it??
