The covers fell behind them, the leader quickly sat down on his chair.
"They wanted you dead." Cadin turned his head to the leader in shock.
"My lord?"
"They sent you to the front to let you die, they believed that your presence was hindering their operations, due to it being unable to simply make you unable to join due to the alliance. They thought you could simply die in battle. But it seems that your skill exceeded their expectations. I also heard that one of the advisors was killed in combat?"
"Indeed my lord, we lost one of the advisors."
"It shall not hinder the alliance's efforts, it will only take time to replace them. As for now, they are irritated by not limiting the deaths they have taken, the tribes will continue providing soldiers just like us, but we need to limit the amount of deaths. For the next battle, they suggested that you stay with them, they said that you will provide ample intelligence on planning and thus transferred you to the rear, you are not allowed however to interfere. Best of luck Cadin." The leader dismissed Cadin, leaving him with new found information.
"Those lying advisors..." He muttered under his breath.
He quickly left the camp, walking down the same open pathway, the sun above shone brightly at them.
"Corrupting the minds of people is what demons can only do, the selected warriors under us are our hands while we are the brains. That leader was difficult to infect but in the end i gained a foothold on him." Standing on the side, the demon looked at Cadin with its arms crossed.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Cadin asked, annoyed.
"With the power you have gained I have managed to infect the other tribes, although weak, with more victories they will be better to corrupt, you and I are closer to gaining more power on the island. Those advisors were easier to corrupt, turning them into fools was but a great laugh, even with little corruption I still managed to infect their feeble heads, suppose pride rots the protection of the mind, killing them though is the faster and easier option for the time being. Apart from this, I saw what you have done to that one advisor, great work, they were rather annoying but also fun to see die. Continue killing more of these advisors so we may have a more.... Acceptable team later on.." With a short cackle of laughter, the demon's body disappeared into a black cloud of smoke.
"Guess I will never know how that demon acts or thinks, at least it helps me think, but I still have to bear with those remaining advisors. Until the time is right..."
After walking for a minute, he found the army, replenished with the advisors standing at the front, now down by one.
"Our next camp is a smaller one, so it shall be simple to take over. Prepare yourselves, we shall move back on the march." One of them announced. Given the new order, Cadin stood alongside them, silently watching them and the army.
The army soon went on the march. The remaining soldiers of the last battle stood in front of the group, covered in blood and wounds but still ready to fight their foe. Behind them, soldiers marched behind, young and seemingly new in combat bearing no wounds nor blood, with faces of joy for an adventure on their faces.
The walk was long, the sun slowly drifting away from the middle of the sky, but still shining as bright as ever. Cadin walked with a part of his cape above his head, the advisors walked with their helmets on, ones of fur or leather, whispering with each other.
"Since I am with them, it would be more difficult to take them out without arousing suspicion..." After thinking for a short while, an idea came into Cadin's mind, "Maybe those barbarians can be useful. Just have to give them a blade and convince them for a short while, or just hope they still want to fight and take out the officers. Hopefully it works."
Out of the path and onto the forest, they finally reached the camp, smaller compared to the other two before with no walls protecting it, only a few unarmored fighters standing around with crude blades.
"The tactic this time could just be charging forward in a single square formation, then we can find the leader and kill him ourselves."
"Sounds rather neat." Cadin commented.
"None of us asked for your insight, you are with us but you will not get the fame from our hard work."
"Yeah these advisors are fools." Cadin thought to himself, further desiring to begin his plan to take them out.
An advisor moved back to the army, relaying their orders.
The bushes around them rustled as the soldiers began compressing, now staying shoulder to shoulder with one another with their weapons and shields in front.
After a few seconds of preparing, the order was given. A horde of soldiers charging from a single direction at the enemy like a pack of beasts, running wildly but still sticking with each other.
Enemies in the camp began meeting them, desperate without any protection, running out of their tents and out of the camp to try to stop the enemy with their crude axes or swords.
The army smashed through the loosely organized fighters, knocking them out the way while they continued running onward, ignoring the ones on the ground.
The crowd of enemy fighters found themselves on the ground as the square formation came to a halt just inside the camp. As they clashed, Cadin realized. None of them were taking out the enemies with their blades, instead kicking to bashing with their shields or the hilts of swords, sending them on the ground gripping their faces, but still alive.
The battle continued, a few in the allied army became injured, and a few enemy fighters managed to land a hit on the square wall of shields and men.
Soon, the battle became silent, replaced by the faint wincing and grunting of fighters lying around, squirming on the ground in pain.
"Excellent. With the battle over we shall find the leader, order the soldiers to surround the area and tie up the barbarians." An advisor ordered. The battle was now over, the advisors exited their hiding areas, slowly making their way to the camp.
