Chapter 19 - Last loose end

With the prisoners taken and a quick trip to the main camp, the army was back on its way to the next tribe to take.

The sun was setting closer, but the glint of range hadn't come yet. Exhaustion slowly began taking hold, with little breaks given the army continued marching under the fleeting but still bright and hot sun, many sought cover with their shields or pieces of clothing.

"For the next battle, shall we change the strategy?"

"Perhaps not, the plan earlier worked and we lost none, why shall we change for the next camp?"

The two advisors talked with each other, Cadin stayed behind them, listening, thinking of his next move with only those two left, two more loose ends.

The walk was longer than the rest before, their march slowing down as more began walking slower, but through perseverance and determination the soldiers marched on, their faces still filled with smiles of glory seeking and desire to fight a battle.

Their trip soon shifted to marching in the forest, the trees were more densely packed as they moved deeper into the island's forested land. Parts of the army were scattered from each other, few beams of light managed to shine down, providing whatever shine it could.

An hour or so of marching without rest, they managed to reach the last camp.

The camp was the largest of the rest, walls double the height of men stood around a mix of tents and wooden houses, around them large wooden spikes pointing slightly upwards stood. Soldiers inside wore a blend of thick leather and metal, their equipment was shinier compared to the rest before. People all around hauled an assortment of goods from crates of food to crates of weapons and armor, distributing it or storing it in a few small buildings of stone and lumber. The wall surrounded the camp except for one part, a wooden gate guarded by a few soldiers.

"What is the plan now?" Cadin stayed silent, waiting for the dubious response of the other advisor.

"Same as before, but we charge at the gate itself and break through, staying together." He replied.

The other advisor ran back to his men, excitement filling their minds, this is the last camp to face and the largest one to fight, if they take this, they will take a large sum of resources and prisoners.

After heading back, the advisor began to speak to the two, "Let us join the battle, if we do this, our names will be etched as warriors that have joined our men in combat." The other agreed to the proposition, taking his blade out. Cadin simply looked at the two, already holding onto his own blade.

After a few minutes of preparation, moving with each other until the soldiers were practically touching arms. The battle began, flooding out of the forest, a square of men with shields and different weapons charged at a surprised team of soldiers at the gate.

As the horde approached faster, they began ordering it to be closed shut, hastily running to push it closed.

Past the wooden spikes and passing through any other obstacle, the horde crashed into the soldiers as they desperately fended them off. Quickly overpowered, the army pushed the door open before it could close shut. Wails and cries began filling the air as the army rushed in, subduing or taking out any soldier that stood in their way, unarmed civilians rushing to hide or to the small buildings.

Cadin and the two other advisors stood in front of the army, from all directions fighters charged at them, quickly being killed or knocked out. More continued coming, civilians lined up at the small buildings of stone and wood, hastily grabbing weapons from them as armored soldiers handed them out to the populace.

Quickly the middle of the camp was consumed by fighters, crashing into the wall of Cadin's allied soldiers, with the advisors he fended them off, exchanging blows as he tried his best to knock out as much as possible. The other two struggled but managed to hold on, forming a gap between them and the attacking enemy fighters.

"We are far from any allied soldier, where is the leader?" Cadin kept fighting, looking above the heads of nearly hundreds of enemy fighters, finding the leader or someone that stood out from the rest.

As he looked, a man taller than the rest marched through, moving past the enemy fighters. Cadin was surprised, a man of that height standing tall in front of them.

"That must be the leader, we need to kill him!" An advisor yelled out. The man wielded a giant sword, nearly as tall as he was while donning metal armor around his entire body.

The advisors began fighting faster, taking out more soldiers around them, moving close to the giant man.

Upon reaching it, they ran headlong into the man.

Before they could even swing their swords and land a hit, the man raised his giant sword, and swung it at the two charging men, sending them flying in the air and into the buildings. Ending their lives in a single swing.

"Thank goodness that demon gave me healing. If I take out that leader, I assure the victory of battle, and it seems I no longer need a plan to kill those advisors.

Pushing through, taking many hits from enraged men and women around him, Cadin met the man in combat.

With a longsword, he moved fast around the man as he swung violently, hitting some of his own in the process, Cadin planned another move, still dodging the giant's swings.

"He's too tall, I need to just drive my sword into his throat, that is the only place I can strike. Maybe I can try breaking off the armor on his legs, knock him down, and have my hit there." Cadin rapidly formed a new plan, now standing in front of the man as the enemy fighters cleared the area away from both of them. The square formation of soldiers behind were being besieged, now fighting for their lives, quickly turning the fight into a massacre.

"Need to end this fight quickly. Before those soldiers die or before these fighters die."
