Chapter 41 - •Forty-one•

Two days after their arrival, the Rush was at its full force. Bardulf and his men were gone all the time, leaving Mako and Myth with Philippa as guards. They were wonderful companions as well, since most of the castle staff were helping the citizens figure sleeping arrangements and food rations. Philippa wanted to help, but it took too long to write what she wanted to say, and she didn't know the first thing about wounds. So, she settled in the background, watching as everyone else labored.

Every night, she would wait for Bardulf. Usually, he never showed, but when he did, she curled up in his arms and was content to listen to his report about the kingdom's happenings. When did not show up, she worried for him. She worried for his men. She worried for everyone.

Now, after a month has passed, Philippa was in Barsulf's office when she heard someone enter. She looked up and smiled. You are never back during the day.
