Philippa ran until she stumbled over a rock and fell. She lay in the dirt and cried, cried because it was all true! Everything Ysmay showed her.
A wet nose nudged her, but she batted it away, wanting to be alone. Wanting to have never met Bardulf and the wolves, never had gone to Zurus and married their king, never let her heart fall for the one person who had understood her completely.
A whine.
She reluctantly looked up into the amber eyes of Mako. He was sad, she could see it. He was exhausted and hungry too. But he had kept her alive even though it was against all odds.
'Where is Flik?'
Mako howled. Philippa sat up and hugged her legs, waiting.
When the male appeared ten minutes later, she couldn't meet his eyes. But he sat beside her and wrapped his arms around her in a comforting hug. She sank into it.
