Inside the majestic building, not many people were seen passing by. Only a handful of humans in long white coats walked briskly as if they were very busy.
Rohan glanced at his clothes. He wore a brown coat with a black shirt underneath which made him stand out in stark contrast to the scientists.
'Well, I hope my difference won't obstruct me from finding the best one. I need to deepen my role as police,' Rohan thought.
Humans didn't have the genetics to have colourful hair like helomus or other races. They had a limited colour of hair, skin and eyes.
Rohan, who had silver hair with purplish at the root and purple irises would make him look conspicuous.
If on the planet Vexer humans tended to like to modify their hair by giving it various colours, people on the planet Lobeut seemed to prefer to maintain their natural appearance.
"Are all scientists always rigid like this?" Rohan murmured as he stepped towards a large screen in the middle of the huge hall.
Then, he took out his police gadget and pointed its screen at the scan box on the side of the screen. Thanks to the guard at the front who had granted him entry, he had a pass barcode that the large screen could scan to give him access to a map of the building.
"Energy resource research room. Well, looks like I'll find something interesting there," He muttered before leaving the large screen for a capsule-shaped lift made of glass.
When entering it, Rohan chose the floor he had seen on the screen earlier, where the research room was located.
Then, the lift moved up and in parallel, passing through line-ways that connect with other lift lines that form a complex collection of brain cell-like lines.
The lift that Rohan was taking stopped. The door opened and he stepped out to find himself in a quiet corridor dominated by glass and various white and silver objects.
He walked down the corridor, then stopped in front of a glass door that had the energy source research room name at the top. Like any other door, the room had a screen with a scan box to allow entry.
At first, Rohan was confident that his status as a policeman would allow him to enter without a hitch. But when he scanned his barcode, the screen next to the door gave a red triangle symbol with the words that he was not a registered research scientist.
"Damn it," Rohan murmured. Then, he stepped back.
'Should I destroy the door? But if I make a fuss now, I'll lose the chance to find the best scientist here,'
"Excuse me, Sir. What are you doing here?"
Rohan turned to find two female scientists walking towards him.
"Sir, may I know who you are and what brings you here?" asked one of the women.
"I work for the police." Rohan showed the screen of his gadget.
The two women looked at each other with the same look of astonishment.
"You don't look like a police, nor a human." Said one of them.
"I am not a human. But I work for the Hinden City Police because of a special operation. This is my first day, so can I get a little help, please?" Rohan asked kindly.
"We are not sure, Mister. The police routinely do inspections at this place every six months. However, your arrival is not as usual."
"Because this is a special operation, as I have explained just now," Rohan replied.
"My name is Eric Sky. I was ordered to do a little investigation regarding your research of energy source,"
"May we see your permit?"
"If I didn't have permission, I wouldn't have been able to enter this building. I thought you noticed how stern the guard is out there." Rohan replied.
The two women exchanged glances again. The policeman who was not wearing a police uniform in front of them looked very suspicious. However, he was right about the guard of this building.
After all, no crime had ever occurred in the Hinden Scientific Center building before. Likewise on the entire planet Lobeut, crime was extremely rare. Even though the appearance of this man in front of them was suspicious, they couldn't conclude that he had a suspect reason for coming to this building.
"I'll take you to our team head. He will explain to you what you want to know. Don't touch anything in there," Said one of the women.
"Thank you," Rohan said.
Then, the same woman scanned the thin, tight bracelet around her wrist on the scan machine beside the door.
The small screen then flashed green and the glass door slid open.
"Please follow us," She said.
Stepping through the door, it was a one-way glass passage that made the two glass walls into mirrors that reflected each other's reflections.
At the end of the passage, there was a white door that must also be opened with an identity scan. When the door opened, Rohan smiled, seeing the many scientists doing their job.
"Oh, who's that guy, Jenn?" asked a male scientist with protective goggles.
"A policeman." answered the black-haired woman. "Where is Mr. Wallnest?"
"He's still in the nuclear development room." The man replied. "He'll probably be finished soon."
"I see. Thanks, Scott,"
"Over here, please, Mr. Sky. I don't have much time to accompany you the whole time." Said the woman named Jenn after she asked her colleague to go first to carry out her duties.
"Glad you were willing to spare some of your precious time," Rohan said, holding the sarcastic tone that tickled his throat.
This was Rohan's first time seeing scientists at work normally, because people would usually run away whenever he showed up.
Messing with scientists was something that villains never do because it won't give them any advantage. Scientists had a lot of information in their brains. And, you have to buy it if you want to get it.
A scientist would rather die along with their information than give the information for free even though his legs and arms were threatened with being cut off.
Most humans wanted to be scientists because it made them more likely to be safe from the threat of villains, and made them rich at the same time. However, not all humans had that great intelligence to become scientists.
Planet Lobeut government treated their scientists like treasures because the scientists were the biggest source of income for the planet.
So far, no villain-helomus had attacked the planet Lobeut, so Rohan was not under suspicion. Everyone thought he was the superhero clan helomus who decided to join the police force.
However, they had no idea that this man would be the first helomus to wreak havoc in this huge scientific building.
