Chapter 20 - Governor of Dabil

Except Gungo, Kalu, Vasu and Moti, all the other prisoners were transferred to an uninhabited place a few kos away from Dabil.

Gungo had set out to track down Abul Hasan, so he decided to go down to Dabil's stronghold with the rest of his companions in the guise of a Gujarati businessman.

Jairam had promised to help Gungo in this campaign.

However, he had repeatedly tried to assure Zubair that the Sindh government could not do it.

Zubair replied,I myself do not doubt it.

But I want to clear Naheed's doubts.

Shortly before dusk the ships anchored at the port of Dabil, Maya Devi insisted that all the Arab women be surrounded by her.

Jairam invited all the sailors.

But Gungo whispered something in Dilip Singh's ear, and he advised Jairam.

You are returning to Dabil after many months. It is possible that someone else is occupying your place of residence, it is also possible that the ruler of Dabil is reluctant to allow them to enter the city.

Jairam replied,

"What excuse can he have?

He himself will insist on being your host."

If you had not helped me, I would not have been able to reach the hostile King(Raja) of Kathiawar.

Now you have the right to the king too?

Zubair replied,

You meet the governor of the city.

Then we won't mind going with you.

Maya Devi said.

Wow!

You go If someone else occupies your house. So it will be very bad.

You make arrangements to accommodate the guests.

I will stay with sister Naheed for so long.

Jairam called a man from the harbor and ordered him to carry the chest of gifts and went straight to the palace of Pratap Rai,

the Governor of Dabil. But Partap Rai listened attentively to the rest of his story except for the mention of the enemy of Kathiawar, but when he told that it was the ships of Sarandeep who had rescued him from the robbers, he was startled and asked,Is this not the same ship on which the king of Sarandeep sent elephants to the Arabs?

Yes!

But how do you know that?

I will tell you later.

Answer my question first!

There are also Arab children and women on it.These ships have sunk two ships of pirates. This is what it means.

That they are well armed.

Didn't they leave the port?

No,I want to keep travelers as guests for a day or two.

He has been very kind to me.

I came to ask you whether you have any objection to their citizenship.

No objection.

He will be our guest for the rest of his life.I have obtained His Majesty's permission to rob their ships and arrest them.

Even if the palace had been struck by lightning, perhaps Jairam would not have been so distraught.

He stood motionless for a moment like a lifeless statue.

At last he managed and said.

"Are you kidding?"

Pratap Rai replied in a slightly bitter tone.

"I'm not used to joking with children."

We have been informed of the arrival of these ships by the Sindhi merchants, and His Majesty's order is that they should be taken away. Brought here.

Jairam shouted,

No!

It can never happen.

They are my guests.

He is my friend and benefactor.

Pratap Rai scolded and said,

Speak wisely, you don't know where you stand?

Jairam said,

"It is against humanity. You will incur the enmity of a nation which has trampled many kingdoms like Sindh under its feet. Whoever gave such advice to the King (Raja) did not do him well."

I go.

It is the duty of a Rajput to take care of the guest.

You cannot go anywhere as a rebel of the king.

Saying this, Pratap Rai called out to the guards.

And immediately four soldiers surrounded him with bare swords.

Jairam got a chance to sharpen his sword. Pratap Rai said you will have to stay in my prison for some time.

I will set you free when I come back from the harbor.

Tomorrow you will be sent to King ( Raja).

If you can spare the lives of your guests,I will release them. But for your pleasure,

I cannot obey the king's order.

The soldiers locked Jairam in a palace cell. After slamming the door, banging his head against the walls and making noise, Jairam sat quietly. He thought of his sister, and he got up again and started banging on the door.He took out his sword but after a few blows on the strong scabbard it too broke.

He picked up the tip of the broken fruit and intended to plunge it into his chest, but a thought stopped his hand, he got up and began to pace restlessly in the closet. Then an idea came to him and he shouted to the guards. He gave them all sorts of lures but no one paid attention to his condition. He threatened to complain to the King (Raja), but was met with laughter from the guards.
