Stella's face had turned bright red after giving her order. She did not think about what she was saying and looked down at the table.
"You should eat something. You have not eaten all day." Samael said as he pushed the sandwich closer to Stella so she could see it again.
"Ok." Stella said as she picked up the food and started to eat. The sandwich was a mix of cold cuts and cheese. Simple but after a long day of walking it was a much needed meal. She did not look up at Samael until she had finished the sandwich.
"Feel better now?" Samael asked.
"Yes. Thank you." Stella said, looking up at Samael as he picked up the plates and returned them to the counter.
Shall we get going then?" Samael said as he returned to the table and pulled Stella's chair out for her.
"Ya it is a little late. But I am curious where you live Samael?" Stella asked, as she stood up from the table.
"I don't live anywhere. I have not had a reason before to stay in one place for too long." Samael said, as he started to leave the building.
"I am sorry to hear that. I hope you will stay here, So I can convince you to be my bodyguard." Stella said with a smile trying to forget the embarrassment of trying to give Samael an order like she was in charge of him.
'Well I have a reason to stay now." Samael said as he turned to look back at Stella.
"What do you mean?" Stella asked, not understanding his meaning.
"You ordered me to guard you. So that is what I will do." Samael said.
"Wait. You mean that you are going to be my bodyguard just for I told you to?" Stella asked even more confused.
"It may be hard to understand, but yes. Depending on the person giving the orders, I will follow them." Samael said as he started to walk back down the street.
"So, you did not want to sign the contract because I was asking you to do it?" Stella asked as she started to walk behind him.
"Yes. If you want me to sign the contract, just tell me to sign and that is what I will do." Samael said, as he slowed down so Stella would be walking next to him.
"Ok, good to know. It is a little late but you do know how to be a bodyguard right?" Stella asked, looking over at Samael.
"Yes I know how to guard someone's life and look out for their well-being." Samael said, as he put his hand on top of Stella's head.
"Well this will be interesting if nothing else." Stella said as they walked down the street.
"Why do you say that?" Samael asked as he took his hand off her head.
"I have never had a bodyguard put their hand on my head to comfort me before." Stella said, crossing her arms.
"That is only because they are afraid to get fired. I do not hold that fear." Samael said.
"Well if that is the case. Let me see your face." Stella said, moving in front of Samael and leaning forward to try and look at his face. But she can not see anything for the hood and street lights shrouded his face in shadows.
"If that is what you want." Samael said as he pulled his hood off. Samael had short black hair that was no longer than an inch. He was clean shaven and his eyes looked dark brown. But as she looked closer his eyes were actually dark red. Without realizing Stella had gotten closer to Samael.
"Did you get a good look?" Samael said, looking back at Stella's vibrant green eyes. Her face turned bright red and she turned around so he could not see her face.
"It is late, we should get heading back to the manor." Stella said, as she regained her composure.
"Yes, that would be best. You need your rest." Samael said as he started to walk back down the road. Stella just walked next to him keeping her head down. They walked down the road heading back to The Heights, but this time they walked up to the front gate.
"Miss, do you have your ID?" The guard asked as Samael and Stella approached the gate. The guard looked to be on edge when he saw Samael.
"Here it is." Stella said, pulling her ID out of her pocket and handing it to the guard.
"Thank you Miss Godwin, and your ID sir?" The guard asked looking from Stella to Samael.
"He is with me." Stella said before Samael could say anything.
"Not a problem. Miss Godwin." The guard said as he opened the gate. Stella walked through the gate followed by Samael. They walked down the road heading to the Godwin manor.
"So being your guard will I be staying on the property?" Samael asked, trying to get more information about what would be going on.
"Yes but I will not be having my personal bodyguard sleeping with the staff. My room has a shared door with the next room over, I am going to have you take that room. That way should I ever need you, I know where you are." Stella said, her face turning red as she spoke.
"Logical. That will make things easier." Samael said as they walked through the front gate to the Godwin property. The guards did not say anything and just let them walk into the property.
"Do you want me to show you around the property?" Stella asked as they walked up the driveway.
"If you want to. I already know the layout of the house." Samael said, prompting Stella to stop walking.
"Wait. You know the layout of the house?" Stella asked.
"Yes, during the war I had to visit The Heights looking for spies and turncoats. During that time I memorized the layouts of several properties." Samael replied.
"And you still remember them?" Stella asked, looking at Samael.
"I have a very good memory. If I did not have a good memory I would not be good at my job." Samael said, as he looked over at the house.
"Is that why you still remember the stories I told way back then?" Stella asked as she started to walk again.
"Yes it is." Samael said as they made it to the front door. They walked into the house and up to the second floor, Stopping in front of Stella's room.
"This is my room. The room you will be in is next door. The door that joins the two rooms is hidden into the wall and can only be opened from my room." Stella said as she opened the door to her room.
"Not a problem, get some rest Stella." Samael said as Stella walked into the room.
"You too." Stella said as she closed the door to her room. Samael waited to hear the click of the door closing. He walked down the hallways until he got in front of the next door. The door opened very easily. The room was dark gray with a single red wall that had a large window centered on the wall. Under the window was a large bed with gray and red sheets. There were also two large wardrobes and a desk.
Samael walked into the room and closed the door behind him. The room was silent but Samael could hear the shower running in Stella's room. He walked over to the wardrobes and opened them up. They only had a couple of hangers in them. Samael took off his trench coat and hung it up before closing the doors.
He had on worn black combat pants and boots, he also had on a gray shirt. With his trench coat off he walked into the bathroom and started the water, leaving it on cold. Before he took off his shirt he took a knife and sheath from the back of his belt setting it into the sink.
Samael did not take long in the shower, when he got out he put back on his combat pants. Before he left the bathroom he took the knife and clipped it back to the back of his belt. He walked into the room and over to the bed sitting on the edge. Samael was not sitting long before there was a light knocking on the door.
When he opened the door Stella was standing in the hallway. She had on a simple black nightgown and robe. Her hair was down and still a little damp.
"Sorry to bother you, I did not know if you were sleeping or awake because the light was off." Stella said, struggling to see Samael in the dark room.
"The dark has never bothered me, let me turn the lights on for you." Samael said as he flipped the switch and the lights turned on.
"Thank you. I wanted to tell you that tomorrow I will go with you so we can get you more suits. I will help you pick them out, so that no one will say anything about what you wear." Stella said as she covered her eyes due to the lights turning on.
"It would be bad to stick out too much and negatively impact your image. Thank you for helping me with this." Samael said, as Stella uncovered her eyes.
"Do you also need something to sleep in?" Stella asked, when she saw Samael standing in the room shirtless.
"It is not needed, but if you want to I will not stop you." Samael said not seeing anything wrong with what he had on.
"Ya I will grab you some. I am going to head to bed now." Stella said nervously, as she started to go back down the hallways to her room. Samael waited to hear Stella's door close before closing his own door. He turned the lights off and laid on the bed, It did not take him long to fall asleep. It had been a long time since he spent the night in a bed.
Samael woke up before the sun had even started to come up. He put on his clothes and boots, saving his trench coat as the last thing he put on before walking out of the room. He made his way out of the house avoiding contact with any of the other people inside. When he got out of the house he started to do a perimeter check looking around as the sun came up.
With the sun rising into the sky Samael made his way back into the house, again he avoided all other staff inside the house. He moved through the house like a ghost, unseen and unheard. Samael left no trace where he went, to some it would be hard but it was easy for him. He went to Stella's door and silently opened it.
He walked into the room, his footsteps nearly unheard as he walked. At the bed he stopped, Stella was sound asleep in her bed.
"Stella. It is time to wake up." Samael said, as he put his hand on her shoulder to move her a little. Stella groaned a little and rolled a little further away from Samael. Samael moved closer putting his knee on the bed.
"Stella. Wake up." He said once again shaking her.
"I am awake." Stella said as she started to sit up on the bed. Samael removed his knee from the bed as she moved to a fully seated position on the bed.
"Do you want to have breakfast here or while we are shopping?" Samael asked.
"Let's eat out. I want to go to a specific place." Stella said as she yawned.
Samael took his leave from the room so Stella could get changed. After she was ready the two of them left the manner. Stella insisted that they walk because it was not far. True to what she said the shopping district was right outside one of the gates to The Heights.
After arriving in the shopping district Stella wasted no time and went right to a suit store. She was efficient, picking out several matching suits in different colors. Samael did not argue much, only insisting that his suits are darker in color.
Stella looked to be enjoying herself as she shopped. She had moved from suits to dressing and business outfits for herself. Planning the colors and designs to match the suits she was getting for Samael. But her shopping was interrupted by a phone call.
"Yes?" Stella said as she picked up the phone and looked at a black jacket.
"Stella, it is aunt J. How are you doing darling?" The woman on the phone said.
"Aunt Jannet. I am doing great just doing a little shopping. Did you need something?" Stella said, walking over to the checkout counter.
"I have great news darling. I have arranged for you to go on a date with a wonderful man. He owns a large company that is sweeping the market." Jannet said, over the phone as Stella paid for the items she had picked out.
"I appreciate the offer but I don't." Stella tried to say but was cut off.
"Darling listen to me. He is a great man with a great paying job that would help the company branch into a new market. Trust me Darling, you will love this man." Jannet said cutting off Stella.
"What did my father have to say about this?" Stella asked as she walked out of the store with Samael following her.
"Your father was thrilled that I could find such a great business man for you darling. You will meet him tomorrow at The Nomad restaurant downtown." Jannet said as some other voices can be heard in the background.
"Thank you for setting all this up but." Stella said but was cut off again.
"No problem darling, don't forget to put something nice on and be polite to him. I have to go now, enjoy your date." Jannet said before ending the call. Stella stopped in the middle of the road when Jannet hung up the phone.
"Is everything ok?" Samael asked. He had been silently waiting for her call to end.
"I have to go on a blind date tomorrow." Stella said in shock.
