Chapter 8 - The Star Bow

"Friks, come here for a moment, there is something I wants to talk about with you." Yazmine greeted Friks as soon as he entered the house. Yazmine was in the living room holding a wooden box with distinctive carvings that were almost the same as the signboard at Robert's Coffee Shop, the difference being that in the wooden box measuring about 20x20 cm there were three stars on it while the dragon and tiger symbols were on both sides. Friks sat down on the sofa and Yazmine put the wooden box on the living room table.

"What is it, Mom?"

"Friks, what I'm about to tell you might be hard for you to believe."

"About what, Mom?"

"About destiny, about the secrets I've kept, about your father, about the origins of our family." Yazmine began.

"What do you mean Mom?"

"Your father, actually. Maybe you can find your father again..."

"What do you mean? Friks doesn't understand, find father? Where is my father, Mom?"

Yazmine sighed and looked into the face of her only child. No, she wouldn't cry, she had to be strong and explain everything to Friks.

"Friks, we are not really from this world. I mean, at least me and my family are not from this earth. Your father and his family are from this earth, but your father's great-grandfather was destined to find the door to the other earth and become a legendary knight there, who then passed on his knightly mission from generation to generation. Yazmine hesitated a bit, she couldn't explain it very well.

Friks thought for a moment, then what Kaytrin and Arthure had said was true but he misleading to think his father was from Aeros but the truth is his mother are. His mother had confirmed it. The mother's tightly guarded silence was now broken, and though it was not easy to understand, Friks understood what his mother kept silence all this time.

"Friks already knew, Mom. Uncle Miilo's and you are from Aeros, and my father was lost there."

"You found out? Did your uncle Miilo tell you that?" Yazmine asked, shocked with fear and knowing exactly how this conversation would end.

Friks shook his head, "No, Friks found out from those two strange strangers in Robert's coffee shop earlier. They claimed to be from a clan of knights who had been given a special mission by the Great Seer and told me about Aeros, the Star Archer, and about what father did ten years ago."

Yazmine jumped, for the Great Seer, who had been in seclusion for decades, had suddenly sent her messengers to meet her son, perhaps to give her hope, "Do they have news of your father? How is he? Is he well?"

Friks sighed and shook his head, "They don't know where father is or what has happened to him since the great battle with Leburo ten years ago."

"So you know that much already?"

Friks nodded.

"One day after the battle, the knights teleported by Father returned to the battlefield. They found the bodies of the victims who had died horribly, and the debris and remnants of the energy explosion. But they didn't find Father's body," Friks explained.

"In that case, is it possible..." Yazmine hung on her words, hinting at a small hope she had always harbored in her heart.

"That's why, Mom. Friks has decided to go to Aeros. Friks wants to find Father there!"

All the way home from Robert's coffee shop, Friks had thought about everything Kaytrin and Arthure had told him. He could conclude that his father had indeed disappeared in Aeros, but he was a little doubtful that what the two strangers had told him was true. Now that her mother had told her the same thing, she was even more convinced. Friks was determined to find his father in the place that called Aeros and bring him back home.

Yazmine sighed, for in her son's veins flowed the blood of a legendary knight who protected both worlds. She could not change the destiny her husband's family had carried for hundreds of years, or even nearly a millennium. And now that legacy had to be passed on to the only son she cared about.

"It seems I'm has no other choice." Yazmine put down the small wooden box she had been holding. "Open!" she exclaimed.

The three stars on the top of the box glowed, as did the two eyes of the tiger and dragon carved beside them. The lid of the box opened slowly.

Yazmine picked up something that was in the box, a little doubtful if it was there or not, but it was back in the box, who knows when.

"Friks, this is the Star Archer's bow." said Yazmine.

Yazmine handed over a titanium bracelet, about 7 centimeters wide, with a large gem in the center. The gem sparkled purplish-blue.

Friks took the bracelet from his mother and studied it. Although it was called a bow, it was completely different from the crossbows Friks had seen. He wondered and curious how one could do archery with this bracelet.

"The bow can only be worn by members of the Star Archer Knight clan, and it will also indicate where Sternhyst is. And if anything happens to the knight who wears it, the bow will be returned to this box. This bracelet used to be worn by your father, Friks," Yazmine explained with tears streaming down her cheeks.

Friks sighed, all this explanation was so confusing. All the things her mother, Arthure and Kaytrin had said made no sense to heim. Aeros seemed to be a completely different world than this Earth, he conclude.

"You must be curious about how to do archery with that bracelet-shaped bow, right?" Yazmine seemed to guess what was on her son's mind, wiping away the tears on her cheeks with the back of her hand.

Friks nodded, "How do I use the power of this bracelet, Mom?"

"After you wear the bow, all of the Star Archer's previous knowledge will be transferred directly into your mind. But once you wear it, the bow cannot be removed. Unless..." Yazmine paused for a moment, looking into her son's eyes, "Unless something very bad happens to the wearer, or he is dead," she continued.

"Friks believes father is still alive, Mom. Friks will go to Aeros and look for him!" Friks said firmly to dispel her mother's doubts.

His mother looked back at him, "You are indeed your father's child, your father's eyes and spirit flow in your body. Be careful!"

Friks nodded, and then he wore the bracelet-shaped bow on his left hand.

The bow suddenly glowed a dazzling purple-blue and immediately adjusted its size to Friks' hand.

"Aaargghh...!!!" Friks screamed, as the bow seemed to stick something into his hand. It felt very painful, but then the pain gradually disappeared as the blinding purple-blue light faded.

Friks felt something warm seep from the bow into his veins and then into his head. Gradually, the knowledge of the Star Clan and all that the previous generation of Star Archers had experienced began to be understood.

Yazmine take a very deep breathe, this way her son had officially become the heir of the Star Archer. His destiny must be fulfilled, although as a mother she is still not fully willing.
