Chereads / The Choices we make [MMO Fantasy] / Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

Alexis wanted to test how much defense was needed for people entering her soul realm and what kind of countermeasures were effective against intruders.

This devil showed her a pressing disadvantage of her already.

Any person or being with enough mana to shield them from the corrosive aura could enter into her realm.

It was just so that they couldn't do much in here.

Alexis main core was powerful enough to eliminate most things entering into here passively.

But some things needed to be thoroughly exterminated before they could harm her in any way.

Through media and crazy science dudes, Alexis knew the power of the hexagon.

It was the preferred state of nature when dividing things into small bits.

A casual demonstration for this were liquids and bee hives.

Conjuring a hexagon like shield out of her holy aura that was massive and looked like a deadly cannon that shot through the realm, the leader could not even react before this hexagon pushed it back with a great force and corroded its body entirely.

A single shot was enough to weaken the leader enough for the passive absorption to end him.

This sufficed Alexis for her little experiment.

She tortured the other devils enough in her opinion and expanded the rest of the holy aura in the dome.

The other devils learned from their leader and shrouded themselves in their own mana, but they had sadly not as much as their leader, and even their leader did not come far with that approach.

Alexis had to weaken her aura a bit to even let him through.

That way she also confirmed that anything could pass through the single point that connected the space to her realm.

No matter how big. The rest of the body would just get pulled through as well.

This was a big discovery for Alexis as this meant that through her soul clones, she could also travel and use them as connection points.

It was a weaker version of a teleport, but everyone needed to start slow.

Alexis consumed the entire manor and the city around it.

She just didn't want any remains of the devils to remain here and also get rid of the sad spectacle that was made out of the city.

Many houses were kept intact to lure in adventurers. It was like a ghost city.

Only managed by a few high-ranking devils and their underlings.

Traps like should cease to exist entirely. So, Alexis destroyed every remain of a single rock or leaf.

She compared her mana with the holy swords she could forge out of it and was shocked by how little this entire city was worth in terms of mana.

A single holy sword consisted of at least 4 liters of pure essence.

In comparison to a fireball that was just too great of a difference.

Holy swords truly deserved their name when it came to Alexis's replicas.

Normal holy swords were comprised of metals and just forged masterfully with rare ingredients, not with pure mana or essence.

The cost of a single sword rose exponentially when replicated with mana.

At first Alexis did not want to decrease the effectiveness of the blade, but at this point she just wanted to hollow them out entirely and just strengthen the structure.

This way, she could make three or four swords with the same mana consumption she previously needed for only one.

After Alexis razed the city to the ground she started experimenting on the former grounds of the city lords manor with her holy swords.

Hollowing the swords out worked, at least kind of.

When she smashed one pure sword against a hollow one, she could clearly feel the difference between the two.

The hollow one had less resistance and also a decreased durability.

Both edges of the sword did not chip or show any kind of blemish, but that was to be expected as the edges were the only thing that she could not spare the effort on.

After five hours of trial and error, Alexis was finally somehow proud to successfully craft the blade with only a consumption of a little bit over a liter of essence.

They were inferior to the blades she made before, but they could also be used to distinguish the commanding angels from the foot soldiers.

This city was close to the capital city of the country Alexis was in right now.

If she remembered correctly, her initial goal was it to complete a few quests along the way to the capital city.

She also remembered the name of the city being waterstone, but that was something that even her map could show her.

It even showed the name of the country she was in right now.

Alexis had never directly asked for it because she hadn't interacted much with the people her, but It's called Wayneyard. Most certainly and interesting name choice, but who was she to judge the name of a country?

After Alexis left the now destroyed city that she wiped, her destination was the capital.

She flew most of the way there very fast and slowed down only when she could see other humans walking on the path.

She ignored them and walked to the large front gate.

Waterstone held what it promised with its name. The capital city of Wayneyard was located on a large rock that was seemingly put there on the shore of an ocean.

Only a few bridges connected it to the mainland. Other than that, it was completely shut off from the continent.

Alexis could imagine that falling from such a height from the wall than encircled the city on the large stone would end deadly for most creatures or humans.

Before every bridge stood a checkpoint where the visitors had to go through for security reasons.

But unlike before, Alexis could just walk through the checkpoint while showing her license as an adventurer.

Her armor and subtle holy aura may have also had something to do with her favorable treatment from the guards.

Nonetheless, Alexis could enter the capital city without a problem.

Her only problem now was to just remember why exactly she wanted to come here.

Sure, she told that one guy in the church that she would be visiting the adventurers guild in the capital but other than that she had no idea of what to do here.

Alexis walked down the streets like a lost child. Walking past some stores, she would occasionally buy some sweets or food from vendors on the side.

But with no clear goal she just wandered down the streets until she was eventually at the adventurer's guild.

Walking around aimlessly was not something she usually did. Most of the times she went out was either to do something or go out for a walk with her family.

Only in this world, she would occasionally do stuff that went against her normal behavior.

Entering into the large guild hall, Alexis walked to the front desk where a woman was shuffling some requests that she need to hang on the bulletin board soon.

"Hello, can I get some of your help?"

Alexis asked sheepishly. Every bit of cuteness was counting towards her own image.

Even as a male, Alexis was always considered cute. Now that she was female, the cuteness was just coming in naturally.

"Hello miss adventurer, what do you need?"

The receptionist asked sweetly while making a single block out of the papers in her hand by hitting them against the table a few times.

"I don't want to search through the entire wall of requests, but could you show me the requests that have something to do with exterminating evil things?"

The receptionist looked confused. She did not expect such a request from someone looking this noble.

Was this some joke against the middle class? Maybe she was trying to accomplish something great to increase her standing with her family or something.

Still acting nicely, but now a little bit more reserved, the receptionist answered "It depends of how far away you are willing to go for the request.

In the direct vicinity of the city we have only a few minor requests like hunting the ever growing population of slimes and other forest dwellers that just won't stop coming.

Other than that we have received news that a city 20 kilometers south of here was besieged by devils. But that is something dangerous that will take at least a few entire parties to clear."

Alexis started sweating a little bit. She had a premonition that she knew the city the receptionist was talking about.

"What are your plans for the city after reclaiming it from the devils?"

The receptionist looked at the young noble like she was dumb. Were cities build in one day? Or what did she teach her entire sheltered life?

"After reclaiming it we will split the territory up between the nobles who want to take care of it and repopulate it of course. What else did you expect as an answer?"

That was the final nail in the coffin that Alexis was not going to tell them that she already finished the request.

She wasn't in need of a lot of money, so she didn't need to.

"I dunno, maybe the devils have destroyed the city so much that it wouldn't be cost efficient to rebuild the city as a whole. I would put my money on different things."

To play the dumb noble in this situation seemed better.

"Right, can I see the guild master? I sent a letter announcing my arrival."

The receptionist looked pissed. This noble dame looked beautiful, but she was also ruthless enough to not consider property important at all.

"I can arrange that. Just tell me your name, if the guild master deems this conversation important enough you will soon see him running here."

The receptionist walked slowly away to not anger the noble. That was the last thing she wanted to do.

Nobility reigned supreme in this country and going against one could lead to a catastrophe.

"My name is Alexis, leader of the holy order of seraphim. Just tell that the guild master and he will indeed be running here faster than you can imagine."

Holy order or seraphim? Was this some religious faction she did not know?

It was not foreign to her to talk to paladins and the sort of people that made their ways into the ranks of the church, but order or seraphim didn't ring a bell for her.

"See you soon, lady Alexis"

Lady Alexis? This had a nice ring to it.

She was pleased with how she had been called by the receptionist.

Like a good girl, Alexis sat down at the desk and waited patiently for the guild master to come storming to her.

The letter that was sent through magic had already arrived a few days ago, so the guild master had enough time to process his thoughts on her order of seraphim.

She gave the other guild branch a bunch of corpses. This time she was giving them the few hundred different evil corpses just to show off.

Alexis really didn't need the money at all. But to have money and not needing it, and not having money but not really needing it were two different things.

Even for her as a goddess, money would play a part in her daily life.

Today she spent 2 entire gold on food. That were extraordinary prices for the normal commoner.

Like she expected, Alexis only had to wait for two minutes before a muscular man came running to her desk and sitting down at the different end of it.

This surprised literally everyone else present in the hall as this was not the usual way the guild master behaved.

"Lady Alexis, how can we help you today? Do you want to sell a large quantity of beasts? Or do you have something different on mind?"
