Chereads / The Choices we make [MMO Fantasy] / Chapter 30 - Chapter 30

Chapter 30 - Chapter 30

The image the guild members and the staff had of the guild master was a friendly but reliable brute.

Only when he talked to the king, was he so respectful to the other side of the conversation.

They did not know who this lady Alexis was, but she seemed to hold a very high status in the church to be treated that nicely by the guild master.

"That was my plan. My order needs a lot of funds, for that reason we hunted a few hundred different goblins, orcs and imps. I can mark their camps on a map if you like so that you delete request regarding these."

The guild master was shocked. He knew from the letter that the order seemed to have dimensional storages, but a few hundred corpses sounded too much.

Like the other member of the order of seraphim, she also did not seem to have any kind of accessory that was capable of holding dimensional enchantments.

This meant likely that she was capable of dimensional magic.

It was such a rare thing for only one person to be able to use this branch of magic, but the order of seraphim had two of them.

TWO OF THEM THEY KNOW OF!!!

The little word "My order…" put a bitter taste on the tongue of the guild master.

He was not talking to a member, but the leader of the order herself.

And from her looks alone, he was getting kind of a holy aura.

He didn't fear paladins or high ranking people like the bishop seriously.

They were just humans with only a slight experience in magic.

Most mages outclassed the highest bishop in terms of skill.

But here sat a woman that was radiating a holier aura than any church official the guild master had ever seen.

"D- do you have a list of the amount of corpses you have? This will quicken the process for you immensely."

Alexis came prepared. The last time she delivered monsters, just telling them that there were fifty something corpses was enough.

But now she came with a handy list that counted her killed things on paper.

She even differentiated between the ranks of them.

Looking quickly over the list, the guild master paled.

There were a few too many zeroes on the counting's than he would have liked to be.

Killing one goblin was not hard, but over 150 was not seen very often.

Either the party was tired after 50 or there were not enough goblins in the entire camp to fulfill this number.

She even claimed to have slain over 100 imps. They were numerous but every little one could cast deadly magic.

Just how imposing did she want to be. There were even devils listed under the casualties.

The lesser and normal devils were nor his problem however.

The guild master gulped in shock as he read that Alexis wrote that they had exterminated over 20 greater devils.

At this point he was asking himself if they even had enough gold in their safe to buy every corpse the order gave to them.

"Do you have the corpses with you? It will suffice if you show me two of the greater devils. We will believe your claims about everything else than."

Without further ado, Alexis took out two of the bodies she stored.

She in fact only transformed a small number of monsters into her own mana.

Everything else there gave more mana than the impure mess that the evil beings were.

The sweat on the guild masters forehead started dripping heavily as he saw the two greater devils laying flat before his feet.

He could still feel the evil mana radiating off from them.

This mana was poison to normal humans and smelled very bad for mages who knew something about mana properties.

"Please take them away."

He was holding his nose tightly by the point he was done looking.

"Just how did you kill them? They look kind of smashed into pieces. That they even look like complete bodies anymore is a wonder."

He complimented her in a direct way while also probing the methods of the order.

From years of talking to nobles, he knew where to ask and when to get a good amount of answers out of anyone.

Alexis did take out a wooden club that was painted red from all the different kinds of blood that it was soaked in.

"After killing an orc, I wanted to test out their weapons. As this is quite light, I can easily swing it around and still run around the place."

"…"

The guild master could only look at her with a blank face. He expected something normal. A baton or something like the back end of a spear that was misused. But this went too far.

The club was larger than the woman sitting before him. And she held the heavy thing up as if it was a feather.

"But if you wanted to know what weapons I used on the other monsters, my order also uses swords."

Storing the club again, Alexis stretched out her right hand and conjured a holy sword.

And not the mana efficient variant. She conjured the exact copy of Excalibur.

The pristine white sword that was covered with small engravings gave off such holy aura that most of the visiting people in the room groveled to the ground and started praying to the gods.

This order or seraphim was not to be taken lightly.

To call this sword a divine artifact was an understatement.

As he had witnessed several divine artifacts first hand, the guild master could vouch for the authenticity of the sword.

The closest thing that came to this sword was the divine spear of a long forgotten god.

It still to this day carried the divine air around itself and was frequently carried by any bishop of the church.

If the spear had a good amount of divine aura, what in the name of god was this sword?

What were the gods thinking when they came up with the order of seraphim?

Are they all war ready killing machines that just run around killing monster after monster?

"Please spare us of your divine aura, oh head of the divine order of seraphim."

The guild master also positioned his head on the table and quasi prayed to Alexis.

He wanted her to stop and just finish this deal.

"In total you bring us 437 corpses. Our guild offers you for these 5 platinum coins. This should be more than enough for the expenses of your order for a while."

He did not lift his head until Alexis stood up and unsummoned her sword.

"Deal. I will come and take the money tomorrow. I will leave the corpses in one of your back rooms."

The guild master could not thank her enough for this proposal.

He himself had only about two platinum coins in his safe.

A visit to the local bank was needed immediately.

"Thank you for doing business with the guild. Please feel free to use our services again in the future."

Alexis took out a pen and paper and marked the locations of the nests she hunted for the guild leader before standing up and going outside.

It was not her intention to scare the living crap out of everyone present, but just like with her declaring herself to be a goddess before the entire world, there was just no way around something like that.

Sometimes she had to be scary and demanding of the people. That was sadly how the power-hungry society worked these days.

People that could one hit you anytime they were angered were feared for a good reason.

Not many had the self-restraint that Alexis did. As a goddess, to randomly harm innocents was not her intention.

It was better for them to live and give off valuable faith power for the other gods here.

She was still in a win-win relationship with the goddess of creation here.

Alexis wondered for a while what the goddess of creation had to say about her ascension to godhood and especially her new body.

She liked her new form very much. To copy the body of her sister was a great idea.

At first, she did not realize it herself, but the change did not only affect her body to be female. The entire thought structure of her soul was affected.

That made her wonder if when she morphed into something big like a dragon if she would actually think like a dragon.

In retrospect, even in her wolf form, she adapted to the habits that she knew of domesticated dogs.

She like getting petted and also slept in a curled up ball.

The goddess of creation told Alexis that her main form was that of a soul and that she had great potential.

But now she would think more than one time before mindlessly copying something else, just in case it could change her up entirely.

Alexis walked around the city again. She was searching for something; she just had no clue of what to find.

Passing by a group of people, she overheard their conversation.

"I told you already. This situation is getting out of hand. Who will believe us that we were killed by a bunch of demons and failed to stop them from opening a portal to our own world.

We have already seen that the gods can handle those.

Even if we failed the quest, there is nothing we can do. Just let that fluffy god take care of them."

Alexis suddenly became very invested into their story.

The bold looking thief that couldn't keep his mouth shut, reassured the group that they could not do anything.

She approached the small group of four from behind and enveloped them in a dome filled with holy aura.

For the passersby it looked as if the five just vanished into thin air.

Alexis took them into a separate space that was not meant to absorb them.

"DEFENSIVE FORMATION NOW!!!"

Shouted the mage of the group while the other three circled around him protectively.

"Shut up and calm down you fools. I just want to trace back your mistake and take care of the mess you made. Who would have thought that the demons could use similar technology as us and come to our world."

Alexis appeared out of nowhere with her wings folded neatly around her and approached the group in fury.

"Tell me, how exactly did the demons create a portal to our world."

The four were shocked. A few seconds ago, they were still roaming around the city like always, and now they were in some kind of dungeon instance created by this angel before them.

She walked past them slowly before and only looked beautiful.

They had no idea that she was an angel. Furthermore, she also seemed like a player from their own world.

Did even the angels play this game? If yes… how many?

"We accepted a normal quest… things got out of hand, and they started experimenting on us."

Alexis touched her head with both hands before asking them HOW things got so out of hand that they felt the urge to study the stupid bunch of players.

"Well, we failed and wiped one time. After that we went back there to try again…"

She was just confronted with a constant she did not put into consideration when she became a God.

People were God damn stupid and did things that were unreasonable.

"Were you still under the assumption that this was a game at that point?"

If they really were, shame on them, but nothing could be done about this.

The gods created the players to play a game. And they could even respawn.

So why shouldn't they try again.

Against most monsters, this worked wonders.

An infinite stream of players that swarmed them surely meant death.

But the high-ranking devils though otherwise and wanted to kill them for real.

They must have highjacked the connection between the soul avatars and the real players.

If they were to open a portal that led to their world, the players would be the first victims.
