Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

While walking up the stairs he could hear loud talking from several rooms. He couldn't understand what they talk about but he caught some fragments of conversation that they should stay put til help arrive.

Davies also decided to hole himself up in his room till he find out more about the governments plans.

It was already dark outside but the army did not arrive. It could be because of the size of the city was too small and it was not strategically important or it could be also because the army was in shambles and everyone only saving themselves.

Even though the German army is well trained and well equipped they never seen war or live combat.

Mostly they only help at floodings and natural disasters. And the small sized army is mostly built by young soldiers who in an outbreak like this would only think about their family.

This is the first time when Davies thought its better his parents already passed away and they don't need to live trough all these crazy times.

When he got back up to his corridor he walked directly to his flat and opened the door. Inside his apartment he dropped off his gear and closed the door rapidly behind him.

Setting up the solar panels outside his balcony he plugged in the battery and left it so tomorrow morning when the sun comes up it can start to charge. It is built with a three fairly large solar panels so it could take care of his needs when he's on long fishing trips.

Looking down from his balcony he could see all the infected down on the road stopped moving and all of them looking at him.

It was a creepy feeling like when you come in eye contact with a wild dog in the dark. The street lamps could illuminate them enough that he knows they all are looking at him.

The only one who is still moving is the man without an arm.

He was crawling directly towards his building, he couldn't see if he's still bleeding or not but it seemed like the bleeding stopped and now only the bare bone was sticking out of his shoulder. The same moment when he turned around to walk inside all of the infected started to scream loud enough to sound almost inhumane. They rushed towards the building ramming themselves to the walls and the entrance door, clawing at the walls with bare hands trying to climb up. One of them was ramming the entrance door with full power. He could hear screams from far away growing closer towards his location, Davies hurriedly closed the door behind him and pulled down the sun screen's slamming them down with a laud boom.

After he got inside he rushed to his apartment door and blocked it again with a chair.

"Seems like their eyes are better than those in zombie movies, and they are way too fast. Not any slower than a man at the speed of full sprint, i hoped they won't aggro on me if I go outside after dark."

Sneaking glances around his room trying to find something heavyer than a chair to block the door he decided his kitchen cabinet should be heavy enough to hold out. It was a 2m high and 1 meter wide massive wood cabinet with 6 shelves inside. He took away his chair and pushed the cabinet to his door with strong enough force for the tremor to be felt even trough the floor.

That's when trouble arrived, the left side apartmant wall was slammed hard from the other side. It seemed like someone was trying to demolish his wall.

"So it was not only Thomas but the old couple next to me also sick. My walls should be strong enough to hold against them. Even if they are sick they should not have the strength to break trough a massive wall like that right?"

-Try it senile old man, I hope you break your knuckles on the wall. Never liked you anyways, now you won't bitch about me being too loud while gaming with my friends.

The old couples answer was an even louder booming on the wall. Cracks appeared directly on his wall painting and the chandelier above his head trembled.

After this booming sound the whole building erupted in action, Davies could swear everyone went mad in this building and tying to break trough walls. Loud screams and shouts could be heard passing trough the walls doors and window.

A clatter of breaking glass was heard than a loud weird sound like a heavy sack of potators fell off the rooftop. When Davies pulled up the windowsill a little to look outside he could see a young boy spasming on the concret ground. After half a minute he stopped spasming and started to pull himself forward he's arms flailing he's legs unmoving and he's body in a grotesque way moving like a worm. He was sliding forward face down slowly towards the street lamp.

Davies vertigo came back and he rushed towards the toilet vomitting out his already empty stomach nonexistent content.

Soon after the pressure dissappeared from his trouth he could feel all the strength leaving his body. He's sight grow blurry and he wekly slid down on the ground.

While Davies was out cold the whole street was in a frenzy. The infected screams and howls could be heard all over the city, the gunshots grow more and more rare and the screams of terror and begging was more and more often. The first buildings to fail was the shopping centers the local lidl and penny market was full of hopeless families watching the glass walls cracking on the veight of the infected lured by the cries of children and the lights of lamps.

The shop workers couldn't pull down the safety metal barriers in time and when they tried the infected was already blocking its way. So after a few hours the number of infected grow so large that first row was already dead from the sheer weight of the horde of infected behind them.

When the glass walls finally gave up and broke in a deafening clatter the infected flooded the rows of shelves. Cries of pain and terror filled up the shop. Very soon after half an hour of struggle only the sound of crunching bones and growls could be heard.

The local police station was long since empty, the guardians of peace turning into frenzied beast looting trough the whole city while dragging their family away from the carnage.

The closest military base went up in flames after the soldiers started to shoot inside the amunnition storage. Mangled bodies littered the training grounds and the whole dormitory.
