When Davies woke up he was covered in sweat, he's shirt stuck to his body and the bathroom floor waz wet and slippery when he tried to push himself up.
"I feel like a new college student after the welcome party. I took that vaccination at the worst time. Getting sick on the first day of a zombie apocalypse is just like my luck."
Walking to his fridge he took out some food to make a sandwich.
Placing his sandwich on a plate he walked to the living room sitting down on the couch and starting up the TV. There was only a red screen with National Emergency writings, switching between different channels all of them was the same. There was no news no movies and weirdly not even promotions.
"Perfect! I never use the TV and on the day when I need it they don't broadcast."
While grumbling alone he spotted a hole on his wall, the size was a finger wide but it was certainly connecting his living room to his neighbor on the left side.
Dropping the plate on the couch he fast picks up his hunting knife and walks to the hole. Watching trough it he could see the old couples room in shambles. The whole place looked like a hurricane went through there yesterday night after he passed out from his fever.
Taking a big gulp he tried to spot the old man but he could not see anyone inside that room. It looked like a bedroom which would explain why was the old couple so mad every time when he played till late night. There was blood all over the place like they butchered a pig inside the bed and painted the walls with blood after the deed was done.
"I definitely need a better weapon. A knife is too short, if they claw me with their bloody nails I could get infected too."
Picking up his fishing nets rod and some fishing line he started to bind the knife to its end as good as he can.
When he bound it tight enough he taped it on with armoured duck tape. Swinging it around a bit and trying it's weight he was not so sure about the weight the metal rod could hold. Most likely after a few stabb it would break, but he doesn't have any better option for the moment. There is a hunting shop two street's away from his home, the only problem is the horde sized infected outside the building. He didn't look out but he could hear the crowd got more populated on the road. Even with windows closed he can hear the low growls and grunts.
Picking up his phone he could see 26 missed calls, all of them from Mathias and his wife Emie. When he tried to call back only the emergency call signal popped up. They did not leave any messages either, after walking for a few minutes around his room he was certain the phone service was taken down. Which was not surprising because the phone service was at most only decent even on the best days in his area.
Going back and forth in his living room he decided to take a look outside the windows. It was how he feared it is. There was a large crowd on the road with a new crashed car in the middle of the road.
"I don't recognise this car. Maybe somebody tryed to make a break for it and the infected swarmed him. Most likely that's why they gathered up around here. That fucker could have taken any other road but he decided to crash his damn car front of my building."
Starting up his pc to make sure if his cable net was also down and not only the phone service, and he was right. There was no Internet and no phone service, no TV and he got no radio at his place.
Trying to start up the radio on his phone it was asking for an earphone which he did not have any after he wrecked the one that came with his phone.
"I should look at the bright side of things, at least i don't need to work? The dark side? I can't game without Internet and all of the games on my pc is multiplayer. Truly and totally a bad break from work. I'm stuck in my flat alone with nothing to do. Why did we joke with the guys all the time that we are only waiting for a zombie apocalypse, this is the worst. "
After finishing his breakfast he took his temperature and it was still 37.5.
" Well at least I won't turn into a zombie? They said the fever is fast acting with a very high temperature. I have a fever since last night and it's not so high, I hope its only the stress and the vaccine. I need some plan if the old man really breaks trough that wall. I need to immobilise him in some way, cuz it's not like I'm a martial artist. I never fought in my life, so it's time for my gamer career to shine. I should be able to over power an old fat man but if he bites or scratches me then I'm done for good. So maybe some safety gear? "
Grabing a leather glove from his wardrobe and a few kitchen rugs he started to duck tape the kitchen rugs around his arm and put up his gloves after he got inside a sturdy unflameable tactical trousers. He also grabbed his biker face mask that had a skulls jaw painted on its front. Than a slim biker sunglasses and he put on his trusty Atlas work shoes.
"Well this is really uncomfortable but at least there is no heating going on at the moment.
Now even if he spits blood on my face I should be safe from infection. And I don't think any human being could bite trough a kitchen rug with duck tape."
Walking back to the hole on the wall he still could not see the old man, so he decided to portition out his food for the upcoming days. It was this moment when he heard running outside of his flat than came the shouting of a woman and the sound of someone banging on the door.
The first bang sent down shiver on his spine all the way from his head till his tailbone. Even the spear fell out from his hand and he almost followed after it to the ground barely avoiding falling on his ass with a fast grab on the kitchen counter.
"Please let me in! They are coming upstairs I need help!"
Of course the old man on the other side of the wall decided to wake up from his winter slumber this exact moment slamming hard most likely headfirst inside the wall.
The woman was keep shouting outside and Davies got to work. Pushing away the cabinet and hurriedly unlocking his door after looking trough the peephole. It was a young woman around the age of 20. Long blonde hair with lilac painted strips in her hair. Two piercing adorned her nose, her eyes was a nice almond color but it was frantic and her current facial expression is far from nice. Her beautiful face was warped in terror, her smink smeared all over her face from the tears running down her cheeks.
After he unlocked the door the woman vehemently rushed inside the apartment almost throwing Davies on the ground. When he got back his ballance he closed back the door but only after taking a peak outside. Three man was tripping over each other trying to get closer to him. Pushing each other to get a head start over the other, most likely for the first bites right. After Davies closed the door and pushed the cabinet to the front of the door he turned towards the woman. She was standing next to the windows hugging herself and watching the entrance door trough the cabinet.
"Well if I was in her place I would worry more about the bloke with a spear in hand, duck tape all over his arms and a skull painted face mask with sunglasses early morning inside his own apartment. If I know I'm going to have guests i would at least wash up and put on something that looks sane. But I guess this is the new trend in the apocalypse? "
