Chapter 7 - Misunderstanding

The next morning after a midnight conversation that ended with cold.

Jayna descended the stairs after getting ready to go to work. As usual, She went to the dining table to eat the breakfast that Ash had prepared. Edward was already waiting there staring at the tablet in his hand on the living room couch.

Edward got up from the sofa when he saw Jayna coming down the stairs and following her towards the dining table.

"Morning Jay" Edward greeted Jayna.

"Morning" Jayna answered simply.

"Harry just chatted, asking for the meeting to be postponed. To lunch time because he has another important meeting," Edward explained.

"And then? Meeting with us is not important?" Jayna stopped her activities of spreading jam.

"No, that's not what I mean, Jay. Today is just a meeting for materials, it's still early. So I guess it's not a problem if it's just postponed until lunch time." Edward tried to control the atmosphere.

"Meeting materials are important Ed, materials are the most important substance of this project" Jayna replied annoyed.

Edward just stared at Jayna's face in confusion while observing her carefully.

'Jayna is not someone who will protest just because of something as trivial as a schedule being pushed back. She prefers a morning that is postponed to noon' Edward observed Jayna's unusual behavior.

"Why are you? This is just a trivial matter. You also usually like it the most when the morning schedule is pushed back into the afternoon." Edward was still staring.

Jayna was surprised with Edward's word, and continued to spread jam on the surface of her bread. Jayna actually did not accept Edward's attitude that was act like if there was nothing.

Last night was a sensitive conversation that made Jayna overthink all over night and realize that Edward not apologizing, made Jayna sure that Edward didn't introspect at all and slept well. Jayna hates that she's the only the one who hard thinking.

"I have an appointment with my family tomorrow. So tonight I have to stay at Jade's house according to the agreement" Jayna changed the subject.

"After the meeting, I will take you back to Jade's place," Edward replied, not wanting to escalate the situation again.

"Mmh" Jayna's short answer. Edward, who was still confused by the atmosphere, just kept silent.

The situation that Edward felt was very awkward at that time. He wanted to open his mouth, but stopped when he saw Jayna's expressionless face at that time.

"So this morning we went straight to the office?" Asked Jayna.

"Yes, there are some files that you must read and sign. I've asked Amee to prepare the files" Edward explained. 'Huaah, thank goodness it didn't turn into a cold war with this obstinate girl' thought Edward in relief.

Edward lifted Jayna's suitcase and backpack into the trunk of the car. Meanwhile, Jayna just watched and rushed up to the middle passenger seat.

Edward just shook his head at Jayna's behavior which was difficult for him to understand.

After saying goodbye to Ash who was standing outside the fence, Edward stepped on the gas pedal of his car while watching Jayna through the rearview mirror. Jayna was silent the whole way out of the house.

'Why are you trying this obstinate girl?' Edward thought as he scratched his forehead which didn't itch at all.

"You want to buy a drink at the cafe in front, don't you?" Edward asked breaking the silence. Edward stopped at a cafe they had been regulars since they first met after being separated from college.

"Whatever" Jayna replied.

Edward just shook his head without arguing anymore. After a few minutes, Edward came back with a Matcha Latte in his right hand and a hot Espresso in his left, and a box containing Jayna's favorite Strawberry Cake.

Edward knocked on Jayna's window with his elbow, and handed her a drink and cake that Jayna didn't order when the car window opened. Jayna accepted it, then immediately closed the window again afterwards without saying a word. Edward was silent for a moment then immediately returned to the driver's seat. 'I want to say rude' Edward thought at that time.

After parking the car in the office yard, the two of them got off. Not far away, there was a woman standing in front of the office entrance like she was waiting for someone, Leina.

Leina immediately walked towards Edward and Jayna when she saw them getting out of the car and stopped Edward's steps who did not want to pass her.

"Honey, I want us to talk" Leina interrupted, which made Jayna stop in her steps in shock.

"Later, there's a lot of work waiting inside," said Edward. Edward pulled Jayna's arm who wanted to walk away leaving the two of them.

"Where are you going?" Edward stopped at Jayna.

"come to the office,Of course. Where do you think?" Jayna sneered.

"We're going in first, Lei." Edward said to Leina at that time. After a few steps, Leina pulled Edward's arm back. Jayna's arm, which was still being held by Edward, also jerked.

"It's better if you both guys get things done right there first. Don't drag me into your trivial matters," said Jayna as she turned to face her two friends.

"Trivial? This is no trivial matter Jay!" Edward snapped at Jayna suddenly.

"We can work this out baby" Leina reassured Edward.

"What is it Ed? If you have a problem, solve it first then work. Aren't you ashamed, are you guys making a fuss in an office like this?" Jayna heated up at Edward's bluff.

Leina rubbed Jayna's shoulder to be patient. "Sorry Jay, it's my fault"

"If you know you're wrong, apologize for making a mistake," shouted Jayna.

Leina was surprised by Jayna's response. "I already said I'm sorry Jay"

"Why are you? There is something wrong with your behavior since this morning." Edward pushed Jayna's arm which he was still holding.

"What's wrong with you Ed? Very rude!" Jayna clashed with Edward.

"So if you have a problem, solve it. Let others not be affected! Don't bring problems to work. Be professional!" concluded Jayna pushing Edward.

Edward rubbed his face, holding back his anger as he watched Jayna walk away.

"You too, what are you doing? You're causing trouble here in the morning?" Edward tried to speak calmly to Leina.

"You have been difficult to contact since yesterday. I went to your house too, but your sister said you weren't home yet. Before coming here I also went to your house again, but your sister said that you didn't come home all night. So I thought you were staying at the office," Leina explained. Edward rubbed his own head as he realized his carelessness.

"Where were you last night?" Leina asked.

"I stayed at Jayna's place last night." Edward lowered his voice.

"Hah? For what purpose are you suddenly staying there? Do you realize that Jayna is female?" Leina grabbed both of Edward's arms.

"That's Jayna Lei! Not a stranger!" Edward dodged.

"Yes, that's right, Jayna. But you do realize that Jayna is a girl too, right?" Leina said, looking at Edward's face.

"Yeah so why? What's it to you?" Edward stared back.

"You don't answer my calls, then you turn off your cellphone, then you don't come home all night and you stay at another woman's house?" Leina grabbed Edward's arm.

"Another woman? Is that Jayna Lei? our friends! You realize that Jayna is like a sister to us," Edward shouted.

"You might see Jayna like that. But are you sure that Jayna also sees you the same?" Leina let go of Edward's arm and backed away slowly.

"What do you mean? You're crazy Lei" Edward walked away leaving Leina who looked down sadly.
