Chapter 18 - Fate.

The next person was Kim. She confidently walked out of the group without looking at anybody else. She walked to the center of the test field and stood waiting for the test to begin.

As soon as the test was declared started, five random targets popped out on the open wasteland. Kim quickly summoned her daggers and chucked them at the target, hitting it dead on. She repeated this four times, clearing them all in a way faster than anyone else could have done.

She didn't even attempt to dodge the attacks since they all passed through her body when she turned on her invisibility.

For the next test, Kim performed even more impressive. She started to gather daggers in both her palms and then after a minute or so of gathering her power, a fast dagger column shot out of her palm and hit the center of the drum, dead on. The drum rang out loud and the number kept on going up until it eventually reached 70.

"No wonder she is so confident and rude," Byron noted thoughtfully.

Alec thought it was a good thing that Kim and Byron didn't fight, otherwise, Byron could have ended up being a dead man.

In the last test, the instructor told her she wasn't allowed to use her ability and should just dodge. Kim didn't object and the test started immediately. She managed to move well, dodging most of the attack but eventually, the machine had gotten too fast and she ended up being hit.

"Impressive, the best result so far. So far, you are the only first-year student with a power level of 5." Rita announced.

Kim started to walk back to the group, her face expressionless and unimpressed as if she knew what the result would be.

Either that or she didn't really care about the whole test thing.

Finally, the last person to take the test in the group was Byron.

"Time to display what I got. Hey, wish me good luck."

Alec had no clue who Byron was talking to but quickly realized it when Byron suddenly winked in his direction before walking toward the field.

"I don't think it is me. Maybe he was winking at someone else. Who knows, maybe it was Kim," Alec thought with a red face.

Most of the time, strong people are either arrogant and rude or openly flaunting their powers. But Byron was strangely a different person. He wasn't at all arrogant, more like flashy.

When the test started everyone's mouth went wide open at how Byron performed. He was a strong electrokinesis ability user. Bursting most of the machines and dodging at an incredibly high speed that one might mistake him to be a lower-level speed ability user. Though Silver was strong with her ability, Byron a way stronger.

"Yeah! I did it," Byron burst in joy as he proudly displayed level 5.1 on his wristwatch.

While Byron was busy showing off his level number, Alec's mind was somewhere else.

Looking at Davin, Alec couldn't help but think of the boy as strange. When he shook his hand when they first met, the system had informed him that Davin had tried to use his ability on him.

But during the test, Davin confirmed he had no ability, which resulted in him performing poorly at the test.

"Was he perhaps hiding his ability?" Alec thought. But thinking about that, it didn't make any sense how one would want to hide his/her ability from others.

To confirm if the boy was completely honest with his ability, Alec decided to use his Mystique skill on him.

[Mystique reading….]

[Name: Davin Hart]

[Race:????]

[Ability:????]

[????]

Alec's eye widened in shock when he saw that. This was the first time the system has shown a question mark sign on a person's race. It usually either identifies a person's race as human or demon.

He had to stay wary of the boy till he finds out what race he belonged to. Whether the boy was a friend or foe Alec thought to be careful.

But for now, he would stick closer to the boy till he finds out the secret behind his race, while also getting stronger in case the boy turns out to be something dangerous.

"Hey, Davin, do you really have an ability?" Alec whispered.

Davin looked at Alec and smiled inwardly.

"For now, I have no ability but I will get to learn one here," Davin answered back, looking keenly at Alec to see if he could have a change of reaction.

Alec's face fell when he heard what Davin said.

"If you insist on lying about who you really are, then I will have no choice but to find it out my way," Alec thought.

Suddenly putting up a bright smile, Alec replied.

"That's not a problem. I also don't have an ability but in time, I will get to learn one."

Once the test was complete, the hooded man transported the group in front of the academy where they would be staying. The academy was the biggest and tallest building in the entire city. It looked as if numerous hotels were all merged into it.

There were several teachers in front of the academy. Once in a while, a group of five students would be transported in front of each teacher and would be told to stand still until others were done with their tests.

Eventually, there were a total of 30 students in front of the teacher Alec and his group had been assigned.

"Alright, all you have to do is to follow my lead and I will show you around the academy." The teacher in front of them told them.

Stanley was a young man with brown curly hair who wore glasses.

Stanley took the students around the academy, showing them various places in the vicinity of the academy, while also describing them along, with his calming smile like nothing could ever annoy him.

"I suggest you guys should start getting to know each other. After all, the people you see here are all gonna be your classmates," Stanley suggested, not letting the smile die down a bit.

Saying that the students all of a sudden started chatting with each other as they tour the whole school.

However, there was one annoying thing Alec noticed. The low levels try as much as possible to befriend the high levels. He noticed the level 2s trying to befriend the level 3s while the level 3s tried as much as possible to befriend the level 4s and so on.

Alec and Davin appeared to be the only level 1s in the class. Without knowing, the two have automatically been pushed to the back of the crowd.

Davin appeared to be more affected than Alec was. He tried talking to people after the teacher said they should get to know each other, but after they gave a glance at his wristwatch, they all ignored him and walked away.

"Shit! I know this will happen as a low level." Davin shrugged. "This is no different from that motherfucking first school of mine."

Alec, on the other hand, didn't seem that much affected like Davin

"There you are! Alec right?" Byron asked when he managed to wiggle himself out of the crowd of students swarming around him like a bunch of flies.

Alec was surprised at the sudden question. He hadn't really been in many talks with the boy but here the boy was acting like they were long friends.

After his performance in the test, Alec doubted Byron could bother to talk to him again, being only a level 1

So this thought made Alec not bother talking to Byron when he was beside him.

"Yeah," Alec answered back, a bit taken aback by his calm smiles.

"Man, suddenly all those students came jumping all around me. The next thing I know, I looked to my side and you guys were gone. Come on, let's go somewhere else, buddy."

Alec didn't know what to say cause the boy had already pulled him by arm.

Byron noticed Davin was still standing unmoved.

"You, stop being a killjoy and come with us."

Davin snapped out of his thoughts when he heard that.

"Byron, you mean me?"

"Yes, you Davin. Come let's go," Byron said with a boisterous tone.

The three boys continued the tour, while the teacher kept leading them around the school. During the tour, they were shown battlefields where they had several facilities like the one in the wasteland. They were also shown a fighting platform and various fighting equipment.

They came across homeroom classes, sports classes, battle classes, weapon classes, and several other facilities. Stanley made sure to give a detailed explanation of anything or anywhere they came across.

For Alec, most of those places appeared uninteresting to him but not until they came across the school library.

"As you can see, there are four floors in this library building. The first floor is for the first years, the second floor is for the second years, the third floor is for the thirds years, and military staff that chooses to read there. For the fourth floor, I will advise you not to go there till you finish your schooling here."

Alec screamed inwardly in joy when he saw the library. He could have loved to go check it out already, but because of the teacher with them, he decided to do it later.

Alec might be able to find information about the system there, so he earnestly hoped for the book to be on the first floor, else he would have to check it out on the other floors.

Eventually, the tour came to an end and Stanley led the students back in front of their doom.

"And this is where you will be living while being in this academy. Once you all are settled inside, feel free to tour some more around the academy. There are no lessons today. And make sure to be back before 10.00 pm, curfew time."

Each student was handed a folded piece of paper that contain a number. The numbers displayed inside the paper determines the room the person stays in.

With his sharp eyesight, Alec noticed Byron was coming toward him.

"Hey man, what room number did you get?" Byron asked as soon he got closer to Alec.

"Er, 47."

"Whoa, what a coincidence. I got the same number too. I guess this is fate pulling us together." Byron uttered happily.

"Probably," Alec replied.

On the other hand, Kim had been keeping track of Alec the whole time during the tour, and seeing him off with Byron, made her sigh in relief. Though the boy pissed her off, she still couldn't help but felt comfortable, knowing Alec was in his hands.

"I think I won't have to worry about you, knowing you're in the hands of that boy, Byron, or whatever he is called. But if I ever find out he is treating you badly, I'm gonna blow out his balls ."
