Alec stared long and hard at the message and re-read it to be sure.
"No, this can't be. Why did I get Xp from reading that fantasy book?" Alec thought.
Alec found this strange. After reading several ability books, not once did a single one of them reward him Xp, but for some reason this one did.
Alec decided to take up another fantasy book, titled, 'My Dragon half' to see if he would receive Xp but nothing like that happened.
Filled with the urge to test one more time, he picked up another book about hybrids and did the same. When he finished reading the book and closed it, there still was no reaction.
After trying many more books about hybrids and other creatures and getting nothing, he came to the conclusion that the system must have rewarded him that Xp for knowing more about other abilities.
But what he wondered was why the system could choose to reward him the moment he had finished reading a book about hybrids.
Naturally, there was another possibility, but that one was a little harder for him to believe. He didn't wish to believe that the book about hybrids had somehow been related to his system.
But if actually the quest was marked completed by the system then it somewhat meant that he had successfully gained knowledge about it.
He decided to take a look at the system to see if he would still see the quest again cause he still found it hard to believe that he had actually completed the quest by merely reading a random fantasy book.
[Quest tab unlocked]
[Main quests]
[Daily quests]
[Optional quest]
The quest tab wasn't there the last time he checked, making him a little surprised.
However, he decided to take a look at all three categories of quests since he wasn't sure of the category the quest fell under. However, Alec first started with the first quest category.
[Main quest….]
[Reach level 10]
[Reward: ????]
[Daily quest….]
[1#. Sleep for seven hours]
[2#. Stay out of direct sunlight for five hours]
[3#. Run a 7km every morning]
[4#. Do 500 push ups]
[Reward: 20 Xp for all]
[Optional quest….]
[Empty]
"Unknown sign, again?" Alec muttered while staring at the main quest tab.
For the daily quest, he was already a little bit used to it, since its message pops out every morning after sleep, but not after seeing the other three quests.
'The heck? But I usually get 20 Xp after sleeping for seven hours. Does this mean each of the daily quest rewards now is 5 Xp?'
'Besides that, how on earth am I gonna be able to run a 7km every morning? 500 push-ups are way too much for me.' Alec lamented inwardly.
'For the first and second quest, I see nothing hard in them since I can easily complete them with night sleep.'
After he was done putting the books back on the shelf, he looked around the room for Byron, only to find out he was gone.
"As supposed, he must have gotten bored and left," Alec thought.
Looking outside the window, he noticed the sun was starting to set. He had been in the library for about seven hours and didn't even realize when time flew by.
Standing up to leave the library, a new message popped into his view again.
[Daily quest 2# has been completed]
[+5 Xp received]
[55/200]
Each time Alec got a message from this strange thing system inside of him, he got a satisfying feeling seeing the number in her closer to 200. Beneath it, there was an uncertainty, a dreaded thought that this would end badly.
Nevertheless, he couldn't wait to see what happens once he completes the main test.
He best he could guess as the reward was an instant level up or an acquisition of a new skill.
The only thing Alec wished for at the moment was a quicker way of leveling up. With just the four daily quests that gave only 20 Xp each, it would have to take weeks before he could get to level up. And he couldn't go killing demons either, since he was not yet strong enough at the moment.
Right now, there wasn't much he could do about it. He was pretty much still too weak to do any shit to demons.
As Alec left the library, he decided to head back to the dorm since it was almost getting dark.
Walking down a lonely hallway, he came across a black-haired student being pressed against the wall by another student. The boy on the wall seemed afraid and unable to move, having several bruises on his face.
"The heck? Why is he bullying a fellow student?" Alec thought unhappily.
Seeing the student helplessly struggle under the grip of the bully, he was reminded of his time with his uncle.
Back then when his uncle hit him and molest him, no one was there to help him.
Stepping a little closer, he managed to catch a glimpse of the bully's wristwatch and saw it indicated that the boy was a level one ability user but had a power level of 1.6. Alec was a little surprised at how weak the bully was. He thought bullies were usually strong.
Seeing the bully's power level Alec assumed the only people he could be able to bully were level 1 like him and Davin. That was when Alec recognized the one who was up against the wall. It was Davin.
"What? Davin? But you told me you were quite strong." Alec muttered inwardly in disappointment. "Wait or could it be that he is still hiding his strength?"
Alec contemplated whether to get involved or not. He hated bullies more than anything. His uncle was very perfect at seizing every chance he saw to bully him, making him grow up hating bullies.
In the end, he decided to give it a try since the bully in question wasn't of a high level but a level one like him.
The student lifted his fist again to give Davin another punch.
"You think you can fucking bump into me like that, how dare you? Say sorry now or that's it!" He shouted as he swung his fist.
Alec started approaching the two students as if he didn't see the two there. The bully was engrossed in his act that he didn't notice Alec coming toward them until the latter bumped into him, causing him to stumble and fall.
"Alec?" Davin asked as he looked up at him.
"What the hell was that for?!" The students shouted as he rose from the ground. Looking at the wristwatch and seeing the person was only a level one, his confidence grew.
"What the hell is a level one shit like you doing? You wanna get killed?" The bully said, infuriated.
"I was waiting to see how long it would take for someone like you to appear. It seems like I lost a bet with myself. I thought it would at least take a couple of days before scum like you would act out."
"And what are you gonna do about it?" Alec asked in tease.
Davin smiled inwardly on hearing that.
"Now, you're gonna show me a bit of your strength." Davin thought.
Alec noticed the student's hands suddenly went to his back as if conjuring something and immediately a notification popped out of his eyes.
[An enemy ability has been detected]
[Battle mode initializing…]
[A new quest has been received]
[Fight fight: Defeat opponent]
[Reward: +40 Xp]
"I fucking can't miss this opportunity," Alec muttered with a smile.
