I stand in the front of the full length mirror. wearing a dress that's fluffy enough for a princess but nothing suited for a queen. My wavy blonde hair hanging just barely over my shoulders and on top of my head is my iconic hair bun. My ears pointed and pierced from the ends to the bottom of the ear lobe. The metal in my nose shined cool silver in the bright lit room. My lips contrasted a dark black. slits in my eyes brows that left my doll like skin showing. Last to add on top my crystal blue eyes that held many secrets, that held emotions no one else could understand. What stood in front of that mirror was Zera. Zera the queen of the Elves.
First born to the queen and king of Elivean. Their daughter Zera would one day take reign of their kingdom. She would be a righteous queen and her father knew it. He believed in her like no one would. His daughter would be the next great Elf queen.
Humans and Elves always had tensions with one another. They just needed a little push to start an all out war. I was sixteen at the time, knew nothing of the cruel human behaviors, and wished to never know. "Elf killed by humans!" was what all the papers at town said. Though I had never been to town, gossip got around real quick in Elivean.
My father was never the type to get mad about some little rumor but something about this one really got to him. "I'll have a word with the human king…" He said, staring at the ceiling. My stomach twisted and turned. I could tell this would not end well.
The next day my father took a carriage and went to the human kingdom just over the mountains. It took him days to get there. The kings had a disagreement and they swore to have one another's head hanged outside their castle. My father managed to get out of Humora still having his head attached. When he got home, me and my mother were forced to go to the next kingdom over which was the goblin kingdom otherwise known as glyfin. My parents had always been on good terms with the king and queen of Glyfin. Their son was one of my best friends. "ZAZ!" I ran up and hugged him.
He froze. He was not used to me hugging him, the only time I would was when I was… scared… Zaz arms laid weakly at his sides, but then gripped me and pulled me into a tight hug.
"Are you okay?" he whispered in my ear. My face turned a shade of pink as I realized I was hugging him so tight. I let go but he held on. "I'm fine." I managed to say without stuttering. He gripped me tighter.
"You know I can tell when you're lying, Even though it took me years to learn that." He finally let go and put a hand on the back of his neck. He took his other hand and put it on my back.
"I know you probably have something you want to tell me, why don't we go to your favorite spot?" I nodded my head and we headed out of the castle.
The Glyfin kingdom garden was nothing compared to the Elivean garden. Yes we might have magical trees and such but nothing compared to the beauty of Glyfin.
The morning light shone upon the blue and purple mushrooms on the ground. The green clovers surrounded the pond. Little orange and white fish swim around in the clear water. Small dull flat stones sit around under clovers. I sit on the old rigged bench next to the water. Zaz sits on the ground, he knows that if he sat on the bench it would probably break.
The water was calm. Much unlike my mental state at the moment. I looked over at Zaz, He was staring at the little houses on the mountain range. His tree leaf green skin was vivid in the light from the barely up sun. He was always taller than me but he had just recently reached a major growth spurt.
He was a giant compared to me. Big and bulky. His inky hair fell below his mid-back. Falling in bunches of sea waves. I reached out and touched his hair. It's not fair how he can have such soft and long hair. "What's with the face, do you not like my hair?" He said lacing the last half of his sentence in sarcasm. It wasn't until I had started laughing that I realized my body was really tense.
I let the laughter take me over for a second before I straighten myself. "No, you know I love your hair." I said, rolling my eyes. He grabbed my face and made me meet his liquid gold eyes, "Good because it's staying."
I for sure knew my face was red being this close to him. Have I always been this way around Zaz? No, there's no way if I was then there's no way we would be besties right now. I stared into his eyes as they reminded me of how cooled down amber would look. He let go of my face and turned back towards the water.
"You have something you wanted to share?" Even though he was not physically holding me, my face was still fifty different shades of pink.
"Yeah… My father started a war against the humans." It was silent for a second before I felt something pull me off the bench. I was now on the ground sitting in Zaz's lap. He laid his head into the crock of my neck.
"I'm sorry this is happening to you, If you want you can stay here in Glyfin." His breath on my neck made me tingle. I turned around in his lap and faced him. "I would but if something happened to my family and I was not there to help, I would feel like a coward." I pushed my face into his chest and grabbed a fistful of his shirt. "I don't know what I would do, but I am not going to give up without a fight."
I said in a quiet, stern voice. "Well if that's the case" I looked back into his golden amber eyes, "Then allow me to help you through all of it." He said smiling, his teeth closer to his eyes than they were prior a few seconds ago. I smiled finally at peace with myself. I laid back on Zaz and closed my eyes as I drifted off into slumber.
