Chapter 4 - Chapter Four “Back Home”

Zaz must have heard my stomach growl because I saw that he did not have one plate in hand but two. He walked over to me with both plates in hand. He placed the plates on the table and pulled out the chair next to me. He sat down and handed me the plate with blueberry waffles on it.

"You kept staring at the food. If you wanted some you should have just asked or got some yourself." I rolled my eyes. "You know I don't like asking your parents for things." He mumbled something under his breath that I could not quite hear.

"Hmm?" I asked him. "It was nothing." He said looking down at his plate. On his plate were pancakes with raspberries on top, along with link sausage and a fruit salad concoction. I picked up the syrup and put it on my waffle. Zaz reached his hand out and I gave him the syrup.

He shook his head. "Hand." He said abruptly. When we were younger we would have to hold hands when we ate together because he thought I would disappear if he was not touching me. Kinda like an imaginary friend. "You're still like this?" I said rolling my eyes but still put my hand in his.

"No, I just wanted to hold your hand." He squeezed my hand and then picked up his fork. I shrugged my shoulders and ate the food on my plate. Not long after I've finished eating Mrs.Donna walks in with a simple blue gown.

I stand up from the table and grab it from her. "Thank you!" She also handed me my clothing from yesterday. I bowed to her and walked over to the dining room table and bowed to the king and queen. "Thank you for letting me eat breakfast with you." They nodded.

I turned around and headed to the closest bathroom. I took off the white flowy gown, and slipped the blue gown over my head. I walked out and bumped into one of the servants. "I'm sorry." I quickly stuttered out and then ran down the hallway.

I knew where the laundry room was, I had been there before. I walked down the hall and passed the kitchen. Till I walked upon the small gray one doored room. opening the door there were three washers and three dryers, all of which lined the wall.

I sat the white gown into one of the many hampers that were on the wall opposite to the washer and dryers. Afterwards I leave the room, closing the door behind me. I walked out the front of the castle. Waving my final goodbyes to a place that was major to my childhood.

I asked for no car to take me back. Just me and nature as I walked down the path leading from the castle to the local village. It was only a little after ten if I had to guess. The sun was quite out but not enough for it to be noon.

Walking down to the village was peaceful. The trail was one my feet knew better than any. The baker's pies I could smell from miles away. Apple, cherry, pecan, and many more pies. They were his specialty. People fished by the river. Catching large and small fishes. Across that river is Elivean. I was almost home.

I walked into the village and was greeted by many familiar faces. "Hey everyone!" I walked down the path and waved at anyone who looked at me. It was weird to see an Elf in Glyfin but it was not impossible. Especially one of royalty. People would smile and wave back. I knew I was welcome to this village since people here had known me since I was a little girl.

Though I knew I was welcome I felt like that wouldn't last much longer. I don't know what made me feel that way but it most definitely was not something I liked.

I got to the little bridge that crosses the river. The river itself was thick and ravous. Water splashed it's way on to the bridge. The water was frigid for the humid afternoon. By the time I got over the bridge, my feet were wet.

Thank goodness now that I was back in Elivean there was not much longer till I reached the castle. About an hour or so later I wound up at the castle entrance. "Your Highness, your daughter has returned!"

I heard one of the guards yell. I don't know if it was loud enough for my father to hear. The castle gate opened and my father stood there. "Where have you been? I was worried sick!"

It looked like he hadn't slept in days. Gray hair that was slicked back. Dark eye bags laid on his face, and the amount of wrinkles did not help him. He pulled me into a mighty hug. I could tell he needed mental support and so I hugged him back.

"I was at the goblin kingdom, mother took me there yesterday when you got home remember?" He lifted his head that had been buried in my shoulder. "I'd forgotten all about that…" He pulled away from the hug.

My father's memory had never been great but in the last few years it had only gotten worse. "It's okay, at least I know you care about me." I give him a half smile. "Of course I care about you! when have I ever not cared about you?" all noise dropped, I couldn't even hear my own breathing.

My father was always working. Never really taking a break, but he did whenever I wanted to play with him. My mother, who had all the time in the world, never played with me. When my father would take time out of his day to play or even just to chat with me, that's when my mother did his work.

My mother is an intelligent woman, she's smart when it comes to the amount of resources we need and she is well taught in the way of war. Even though she is intelligent in the way of a queen. She was not intelligent in the way of a mother, but I guess that isn't something they teach in school.
