[Gina's P.O.V.]
I didn't know how long we ran for, but we eventually reached the gates of another Pack. The warriors of Dark Night Pack wouldn't chase me so far, so Pirlo dropped me off here.
"Gina, we're fine. We're fine for now." Pirlo knelt and looked at me before placing his forehead on mine. He kept repeating his words over and over again as his body continued to tremble. It seemed as though he was comforting himself more than he was comforting me.
We would never feel a sadness worse than this. The deafening howls of our fallen wolves still echoed in my ears and every time I closed my eyes, the tragic scene would keep repeating again and again. I was really starting to feel numb.
"You must live well."
Pirlo grabbed my shoulder tightly and looked straight into my unique silver eyes. He had never been so serious before.
But I didn't understand. I had no motivation to live anymore. How could I continue the rest of my life without my parents? I was tempted to run back to find them.
I wanted to break free but he tightened his grip again. "From now on, you must hide your identity well."
My shoulder was already in pain from Pirlo's grip. He had always been gentle with me so this was the first time he was being so fierce. I was frightened and started to cry as I shook my head. "No, I want my parents..."
Pirlo quickly realized how overwhelmed I must have been feeling and he immediately became gentler with me. He hugged me softly, trying to comfort me.
After I calmed down, he seriously said, "You're the heir to Bright Moon Pack's Alpha. Everyone sacrificed their lives to save you, so you have to take responsibility, okay?"
All for me? I suddenly recalled the last words my mother told me and the look my master Gale gave me. I shuddered and nodded my head in a daze.
"You have to hide your identity until the time is right. From this moment on, you're of pure Omega blood and the youngest daughter of my father, Gail Miller, Gina Miller."
I listened to Pirlo's words in a daze. If I was Teacher's daughter, then Pirlo would be my brother.
Pirlo was ten years older than me and he had always treated me very well since we were young. I had always hoped that he would become my big brother but never in such a painful way. I addressed him softly. "Big Brother..."
Pirlo smiled in relief and gave me a big hug. "Gina, you're so smart."
After taking care of my matters, Pirlo slowly stood up. He turned around and looked in the direction his father had fallen.
I noticed that he kept looking back at that hell on earth. I couldn't help but think that he must want to go back to that place to see his father. I subconsciously grabbed his hand.
I pulled Pirlo's attention back and he bent down again. "I'm sorry, I was distracted." He smiled apologetically and said, "Do you remember what I said earlier? Don't expose your identity, you're an Omega now, you're my sister..."
"Do you want to go back and take a look?"
I interrupted Pirlo's rambling, stunning him that I had seen through him.
"Can you not go?"
I don't want Pirlo to die. We were almost safe and I didn't want him to risk his life to return to that place.
I grabbed onto Pirlo's arm with all my might, trying to make him stay. He was my last family member.
But Pirlo didn't say anything. He seemed to be weighing his decisions in his mind. He looked at me and then at the place where he came from, his face full of pain.
Finally, he bowed deeply to me and I widened my eyes in shock.
He apologetically said, "I'm sorry, Gina. I really want to go back and take a look. Maybe my father is still alive, even if..." He paused and he looked on the verge of tears. "Even if he's dead, I want to confirm his death with my own eyes."
I was stunned by his pained expression.
How could I not understand? I wanted to find my parents' souls at all costs more than anyone else, and I wanted to die for them before they died.
Brother Pirlo and I were so similar, but I didn't understand him initially. I had even tried to make him stay because of my own selfish desires. He clearly inherited his father's courage.
"I know, Brother Pirlo. You can go."
Pirlo didn't expect me to agree so quickly. So for a moment, he stood there helplessly and looked at me without moving.
I didn't want to be a burden to him. His family had already been very kind to me. So, I said, "Brother, it's okay." Seeing that he was still worried, I looked at him seriously. "I can wait for you here. I'm very obedient and won't talk to any strangers."
He hugged me again. "Can you really do it? Just wait for me here. Just give me a day, okay?"
If he continued to stall, I really wouldn't be able to bear to see Pirlo leave. I forced a normal smile on my face and pushed him away. "Go, Brother."
Pirlo nodded and looked at me deeply for the last time before running back.
As I watched his back gradually disappear into the distance, I could no longer control my limp body and fell to the ground. All the pent-up feelings in my heart were released at this moment. I allowed myself to cry and scream as if it would help me digest everything I had experienced.
