Chapter 7 - Innate Talent

[Gina's P.O.V.]

Time flew by. I'd been living in this packhouse for almost eleven years.

The environment here was just as bad as I had expected, if not scarier. Most of the people who lived in this packhouse were warriors and noble families. Other than quarreling and beating each other up every day, they would also rape the adult women here.

Fortunately, raping a minor in our part of town is punishable by death, so they didn't dare to do anything to me.

Although I wasn't a slave by law, being thrown in here meant that I was easily assigned to cook and clean for them. I wasn't good at doing these things at first, so I was often beaten and scolded by the nobles.

Still, that was nothing. What I was most afraid of was the Luna from Dark Night Pack. She was unpredictable, which meant I was often beaten up for no reason at all.

She and Reid had a daughter who wasn't a good person either. She liked to play pranks on us and didn't treat us as normal werewolves at all.

I had long since learned how to avoid the sharp edge now that I was used to living in hell. My mentality had also changed quite a bit. After going through all these things, nothing seemed out of the ordinary to me anymore.

It was time to start another day's work. I wiped my face and looked at myself in the mirror - it was from a toy car that Reid's daughter had abandoned when she was young so I took the mirror for daily use.

My room was also very simple. It was probably a storage room before this since there were discarded items everywhere. My bed was made of a few metal boxes and the toilet was built temporarily on the other side of the 'room'. There was a sink but it had been broken for several years, so it was very difficult to use water.

Since it was such a terrible environment, no one wanted to pick this place to stay in. But I really liked it especially since it meant that I get to live alone, making it a very private space.

I looked into the mirror and sighed at my emaciated face. I didn't like my emaciated self at all. Still, the lack of food and thus malnourishment that led to my current appearance made it easier for them to believe that I was only sixteen years old.

Back then, I had lied to Reid that I was six years old, allowing me to awaken my wolf a year and a half in advance.

And now, the day I had been planning had arrived. I was going to be an adult tomorrow. But I was a little worried because I was also going to be busier than usual tonight.

I sighed and didn't think too much about it. I should focus on my work.

Due to a series of coincidences, Dolly and I had been assigned to clean the yard together. Since it had already happened, no matter how much I hated her, I didn't want to cause any trouble. Living under someone else's roof and keeping a low profile would help me survive better. I never bothered to make look at her, always keeping my head down as I cleaned my side of the area.

Dolly didn't seem to have any plans to interact much with me either. Perhaps it was out of guilt or for some other reason that I didn't know, but she avoided me too. Even if I accidentally touched her, she would lower her head and pretend not to see me.

But one day, when she and I were cleaning the yard as usual, my 'talent' suddenly activated on its own - I was able to predict what was going to happen next. I had never deliberately worked on my 'talent', so I could only predict things that would happen a few seconds later. This made it impossible for me to stop them in time, so it was of little value to me.

Moreover, using this 'talent' would give me splitting migraines after. If people thought I was weak, they wouldn't be wrong. My 'talent' could paralyze me but thank God, as a slave, no one cared about me. Since I also couldn't go to the doctor either, my secret was safe.

Thanks to the random activation of my 'talent', I saw a flower pot falling off the rooftop, coincidentally smashing Dolly's head and knocking her out. The impact was so big that blood was everywhere.

I didn't have time to think. I rushed towards Dolly and used all my strength to push her away. Due to inertia, I fell to the ground and my chin was badly mangled.

Dolly noticed the broken flower pot beside me and screamed. Then, she quickly helped me up.

"You're such a busybody, damn it!"

The sharp scream made Dolly and I notice the fat figure standing on the roof, it was the only daughter of Alpha Reid who often pranked us, Lila.

I had always thought that she had been spoiled since she was young. She took pleasure in pranking us and didn't care about our well-being at all. As long as she was happy, she was willing to commit murder. She was the werewolf I hated the most other than her father.

When Lila saw that her prank didn't work, she gritted her teeth and cursed for a long time. She glared at me with hatred before finally stomping away.

I knew then that I would be targeted by Lila for a period of time. After all, she was always like this, toying with whoever she didn't like.
