Chapter 27 - The Book

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN - THE BOOK

*********

"B-b-but…. brother Gene! I-if I have this kind of affinity, t-t-then…. won't my life be in danger instead?!"

'I knew this would be his first reaction instead.'

Eugene thought as he sighed because he knew that this would happen if he told his little brother about the truth of his affinities.

The first thing that his little brother would think about is that his life is now in danger instead of feeling elated for not being labelled as a wastrel anymore.

Jules might look timid and a pathetic loser for them, but Eugene knew that his little brother wasn't a fool either.

His little brother was aware of the situation and was sharp enough to learn based on his surroundings.

'I guess that Lady Hanezza must have taught him secretly. Not just that, when I visited them before, I also teach Jules what I have learned from the royal tutors during my youth.'

When Eugene reincarnated back from the past, as a previous King of the Truman Empire, he impart some of his knowledge to Jules about the political and social intrigues about the Empire so that he can make a better judgement for himself.

That's when he noticed that Jules had a talent for being a genius advisor if he were given a proper education to be taught by those royal tutors in the palace, but they neglected him and never spared a glance at it.

However, if Jules manages to flourish his talent, they would only use him as a steppingstone for others, and Eugene doesn't want that to happen.

Eugene's little brother seemed to understand the situation and act shyly, even around him..

Eugene wouldn't find faults in this behavior and he's glad that, at least, he is being cautious around his surroundings.

But he gradually noticed that, even in the first life, Jules was wary of him before but later on, Jules seems to trust him at some point even though, at the end, he couldn't help him and could only watch how he died that time.

Just thinking about the previous timeline and the current timeline, although he already made some changes, he knew that there would be a backlash for what he was doing.

However, he didn't expect that his little brother's seal would be the consequence of his actions to change some events in this current timeline.

'It would be better to tone it down for a bit and acquire other information that would benefit both him and for his little brother's future.'

Eugene could tell that his little brother knew his situation pretty well and since he had no actual power or authority on his own, if his situation had leaked outside then, there would be consequences that he didn't dare to imagine.

Jules is a special case.

Inheriting his mother's affinities since birth is one thing, but having the two additional ancient affinities to be manifested as well, that's a unique case.

Someone might consider this information classified..

These two ancient affinities, Void and Lumiere, shouldn't manifest in one person's body because it couldn't withstand the power of these two and they're the only affinities that shouldn't co-exist with each other.

He looked at his little brother who fumbled on his fingers and Eugene could tell that Jules was now anxious because of what he revealed to him.

'Jules needs to train his abilities since the seal had already broken. I can get him a teacher, but it's a bit too risky if that person wouldn't know how to shut their mouths.'

Eugene didn't want to tell his little brother that everything will be alright because with the things right now, it needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

He sighed once again and went over to his little brother's side and took him into his embrace. He didn't speak for a while.

When he noticed that his little brother had calmed down a bit, he looked at his little brother, who looked up to him with his teary eyes, as if someone had bullied him.

'I don't know if this child is acting or not, but thinking about the situation right now, Jules is genuinely worried for his safety, and I can't blame him for that.'

"Jules, I can't promise that everything will be alright from now on since the seal had already broken, but always remember that no matter what happens, I'll protect you with everything I had. For now, we have to be careful."

If Eugene were to be asked, he didn't want his little brother to participate in this battle of succession for the throne, where he would experience the path of political bloodshed and schemes that he experienced himself in his previous life.

He only wanted Jules to be strong enough to protect himself. There would be a day that he won't be able to protect him any longer.

However, with things right now, there would be a change of plans. Eugene would need to discuss this with Chad later on.

Since there is no turning back [that thing] in Eugene's possession… [that thing] needs to be back to its rightful owner.

Eugene snapped his fingers, and a book suddenly appeared. Jules gaped at the book in Eugene's hand..

He smiled as he gave the book to his little brother and Jules only looked at him with a confused gaze.

"Your mother entrusted this book to me before her unfortunate demise. She specifically instructed me to hand it over to you if your seal was ever released in the near future. Well, I didn't expect that much soon, though."

In his previous life, when Jules didn't have a sign that his seal would break, he kept this book within him until he met his own demise at the hands of his spouse.

Eugene handed over the book to his little brother and he noticed that his hands were fumbling in anxiety as he looked at the book that's being handed over to him and Jules looked back at him with a confuse and anxious eyes.

He ruffles his head to ease some of the tension on his body and took his little brother's tiny hands and placed the book within his tiny palms.

"If you are asking about that book… All I can say is that… I am just a bookkeeper and was entrusted to give it to you. I can't open that book because it looks like there are some seals that I believe only you can open it, other than your mother, of course."
