Chapter 31 - The One That I Trust

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE – THE ONE THAT I TRUST

*******

"Where are the Crown Prince and the Fifth Prince?"

After they settled everything, Chester left the room and was about to look for the royal siblings, but he didn't know where the Crown Prince took the unconscious Fifth Prince, and he was worried about the little prince's condition.

"Young Marquis?"

Rouen, the personal attendant of the Fifth Prince and one of the trusted subjects from the Crown Prince's Faction, called out the Young Marquis who had left the Fifth Prince's room while having some deep thoughts.

Chester, on the other hand, snapped from his daze when he heard someone call out to him and he saw Rouen standing in front of him in a respectable distance with each other.

"Oh, Rouen. Do you know where the Crown Prince took Fifth Prince Laurence?"

Rouen; "Answering the Young Marquis, His Highness the Crown Prince, take the Fifth Prince to the spare room at the other side of this manor. His Highness ordered me to clean up the Fifth Prince's room so this servant would go on its way."

After that, Rouen left him, and the Young Marquis didn't waste his time as he strived towards at the direction where the attendant told him.

...

.......

"Have you finished the task that I gave you? Did you make sure that everything would be clean?"

Chester; "…."

'Would you look at that? He didn't even bother to take a glance at me, and his gaze fell on the unconscious Fifth Prince the moment I stepped inside this room. Like seriously?'

When he entered the room where Rouen told him, he suddenly felt like wanted to take a step backward because of the tension within the room that sends shivers down his spine, but he didn't let himself feel intimidated.

Even though he truly feels intimidated and without a doubt, this pressure comes from the Crown Prince and no one else.

As much as he wanted to ease the tension within the room, but the Young Marquis didn't dare to open his mouth because if he did and said something that shouldn't, based on his observation, he would have to deal with the demon's wrath.

"What a shame. For learning something that they shouldn't have, there is a price that needs to be paid. How unlucky."

If others saw and heard what he said, they would think that he was just saying things nonchalantly, but Chester knew better than anyone else that there was an underlying meaning to those words alone.

From that tone of voice alone, there is a hint of coldness that would make others tremble in fear. Even Chester can feel the sheer pressure coming from the Crown Prince from those words alone.

It would be wise for someone like Chester not to make a comment on the Crown Prince's statement and change the conversation just to distract him for a moment.

"How's the Fifth Prince's condition?"

Chester wanted to ask about what he saw from the Fifth Prince's forehead, but the Young Marquis knew better than to pry into that information right now and he is truly worried for his distant cousin of his who, from the looks from it, didn't have any signs of waking up.

But he can tell from the appearance alone that his condition is quite stable, although looks weak because of his pale skin.

"You have questions, right? Ask anyway."

The sudden question that was thrown at him by the Crown Prince startled the Young Marquis and he didn't know how to respond without triggering his wrath.

As someone who had been taught about politics and social intrigues from a young age, one important rule that he learned from others while observing them from a distance.

= ["Never questioned and never pry on something that you can't handle."] =

Of course, that would only apply for someone who only wants to be on the safe route and never wanted to deal with any intrigues within their lives.

But Chester differs from the others.

He wasn't just titled [Young Marquis] or [Semi-Patriarch] for nothing as half of the authority of the Marquis Bonaparte household was bestowed upon him the moment his father saw a potential in him.

And at this moment, he might feel anxious when the Crown Prince stated for him to asked questions but at this moment, he needs to understand the situation right now because if something happened that would become out of his control; he didn't know how he will handle it.

As the right-hand man and the representative of the Crown Prince's faction, he needs to know the situation about the Fifth Prince first since the Crown Prince is so adamant on protecting him openly that it would become the Crown Prince's weakness.

He sighed as he calmed himself and directly gazed at the Crown Prince's vicious obsidian-colored eyes.

"Then, my apologies for being direct and I will ask you not as your subject, but as a cousin close to you, Eugene. The Fifth Prince, no—I mean, Jules, what was the thing on his forehead? And not just that… do you know that he wasn't a magical wastrel to begin with?"

These series of questions might get him in trouble with the Crown Prince as Chester felt the sudden pressure that the Crown Prince was emitting upon questioning him about the Fifth Prince's situation.

"Argh—!"

'What in the—?! This differs from before!'

The Young Marquis held on to his chest to find his breathing because within this closed room, the Crown Prince released an immense pressure and he might receive an internal injury from it.

But he will manage to endure the pressure if it means to get straight answers from the Crown Prince.

Chester recognized that the Crown Prince was hiding something when he noticed the change in his personality from two years ago. However, he decided not to corner him and obtaining information that he shouldn't pry into wouldn't be helpful.

But right now, as he saw within his two eyes, he needs to understand the situation and make a careful plan on how to handle it. In order to do that, he had no choice but to confront the Crown Prince, even if he gets on his bad side for now.

After that, a cold chuckled was heard that made Chester look up, even though he had a hard time meeting the Crown Prince's gaze because of the immense pressure, but that didn't make him feel discouraged.

"Nothing change about you, Chad. You're the only person I can trust and if it's you then, there is nothing for me to worry about. Alright then, whatever you learned from here shouldn't leak outside of these walls. I think you understand what this implies if this gets out, right?"

The immense pressure from earlier vanished after the Crown Prince finished his statement and even without confirming what he said, the Young Marquis knew what that implies.

After that, the Crown Prince explained to him about the Fifth Prince's situation and its unexpected secrets that were revealed to him.
