CHAPTER THIRTY – ONLY THE DEAD COULDN'T SPEAK

*********

× ….. FLASHBACK ... ×

"Your Highness, you know I won't ask anything, and you know how tight-lipped I am so…. You may rest assured that I saw nothing."

Chester didn't want to make the situation even worse because of the powerful pressure that the Crown Prince is emitting and if Chester isn't stronger, he would be vomiting blood and having a hard time to breathe, just like what happens to the others in this room.

"Take care of the others lying there. This incident never happened, understand?"

As much as he wanted to question about the Fifth Prince, especially that unfamiliar mark that suddenly appeared on his forehead, it's better to leave it for now as he needs to comply Eugene's orders and he knows what will happen if these matters had leak outside.

When the Crown Prince left while carrying the unconscious Fifth Prince within his arms, Chester immediately went over to those unconscious people to check their stability.

When he deduced that they hadn't suffered any fatal internal injuries from that immense pressure earlier, he took out four vials from his pocket and fed them one by one until he made sure that they drank the potion.

Minutes had passed and the four people gained consciousness as they looked around the room with a frown as if they were thinking about something or they tried to remember what happened.

But none of them remembered what happened, and they didn't know why they were here. It feels like something is missing in their memories or something.

"Are you guys alright?"

And that's the time the four people finally noticed that there was someone with them and they looked at the person in front of them but immediately bow down upon recognizing him at first glance.

"A-ah…. M-marquis Bonaparte…"

Chester halted them for a moment as he raised his hand for them to stop speaking.

"Addressed me as Young Marquis because calling me with that title would leave a terrible impression within the public and I don't want to have a misunderstanding that I am undermining my father's authority."

Sometimes, he thinks that others would do this purposely, or they are just thinking ahead of themselves. They assumed that just because he holds half of the authority of the Marquis Bonaparte household means that he would automatically assume the title of Marquis himself.

Words are more powerful than action.

Stories can be twisted in their own way and whether they were facts or not, it doesn't matter to those who love gossip and entertainment for their own satisfaction.

"A-ah! Y-yes! Yes! Apologies for addressing you that way, Young Marquis. But… W-where are we? W-why are we here?"

Chester; "Oh, about that. Actually, this is the Fifth Prince's room, and the four of you were given specific orders by the Crown Prince to take care of the Fifth Prince, who had an accident back at the Duke Albert's banquet."

He paused for a minute as he continued his story.

"Unfortunately, something happened here before the Crown Prince, and I entered this room and we only saw you guys laying on the ground unconscious but no need to worry as we already deal this matter, and we won't hold you guys accountable for what happened here."

He watched how they became tense from the story that he personally created only a matter of time and watched their movements if there was anything suspicious about them if they remembered what truly happened.

But when he told them that they were not being held accountable, they sighed in relief, but Chester only hid his smirk, disguised as an amiable smile while talking with these people.

"If I may ask, do you guys noticed something here before you guys arrived here and also, if you can recall, how come the four of you laying on the ground unconscious? Not just that, there are no signs of injuries or anything else."

The four people looked at each other with confusion and Chester knew that the potion had already been taking its effect since no matter what they thought about, they won't remember what truly happened.

All four of them shake their heads with confusion and Chester sighed, pretending to be devastated, and they looked at the Young Marquis, who wore a disappointment expression on his face for not gaining some information from them.

As much as they wanted to provide useful information for the Young Marquis, but what choice do they have if they can't really remember what transpired here in the first place?

"Ahmm…. Young Marquis, if this is the Fifth Prince's room then, where is His Highness?"

Chester pretended that he snapped from his thoughts as he only glance at the only woman in the group and gave her a small smile, which makes the woman blushed for a moment.

"Since the room is not in a good condition because of what happened, the Fifth Prince was moved to another room and others had already checked for him."

Now that he mentioned it, they only realized just how the room seems like a storm just went by because of how disorganized the room was and there were signs of fighting because of the thorn fabrics around the room.

If this were under normal circumstances, they will be punished because they were present here and not just that, the Fifth Prince was under their care and if anything truly happens to the prince, they will be the one who will bear the consequences.

What alarms them is that they didn't even remember a single thing before they entered the Fifth Prince's room! That doesn't make any sense, right?!

"All of you should go. Leave this job to me, but as for what happens here should remain here. Understand?"

He might look amiable as he speaks, but the others could tell that the Young Marquis is giving them a warning not to tell a soul about what happens here.

Even if they didn't know what really happened but it would be better just to shut their mouths lest they wanted to face the wrath of the Crown Prince as they knew how important the Fifth Prince was to him.

After that, the four left that place and only Chester remained in that place while looking around at how disastrous the room became.

His amiable smile from earlier fell the moment he made sure that he was the only one left alone and no one's around. He snapped his fingers once and afterwards, a black-clothed man suddenly appeared and kneeled in front of him.

"Follow those four and make it clean."

Cryptic words being said, but the black-clothed man understood the meaning and complied.

"Yes, Young Marquis."

After that, the black-clothed man disappeared in front of him without a trace and Chester sighed.

'Secrets that should be buried to their graves whether they remember it or not.'
