Audrey ran through the alley to the main road where she took a cab that headed straight for Walton Globals. She sat down smiling that she was able to escape Lucas for that day, and then the thought suddenly crossed her head, "wait, what if I'm not able to escape Lucas tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after that one!", she thought.
She started overthinking, looking all over the place toll he eyes landed on the lunch Prisca had packed for her, and the worry lines on her head eased when she remembered Prisca's words. " Breathe Audrey, Breathe!". That seemed to calm her down as she anticipated the workload for the day.
She paid the driver and came down from the car, she looked both ways before crossing the road, She looked at the usual spot Lucas used to park his car every night and she sighed when she didn't see any sign of him. When she got to the twenty-fifth floor, she wasn't surprised to see some workers who were already at work.
She settled in her cubicle, preparing herself, mentally and physically for the amount of work she was going to do. Coupled with the fact that she was avoiding Lucas, she had several things to do and didn't stand up till she felt the urge to use the women's bathroom.
She headed to the Women's bathroom, constantly looking behind her back so she wouldn't get caught by a certain someone. She came back out when she was done, this time heading to the elevator when she saw the familiar entourage.
It was Lucas, his assistant and some of his secretaries along with the security details, she took steps backward, careful not to make any noise with the click of her heels, 'this is bad!', she thought looking for the nearest place she could hide. It seemed that luck was on her side that afternoon as she saw the restroom again, she didn't need to be told twice before she entered and shut the door behind her.
She came back out after several minutes and walked away from the restroom, heading back to her office with caution. She stayed in her cubicle for the rest of the day, changing positions several times as she found it uncomfortable sitting in one position for a long time.
She stretched after several hours of tedious work, looking at the wall clock in the process, 'it was almost time to clock out!', she thought before her brain connected the thoughts, 'if it was almost time to clock out, which meant that there was a slight chance that Lucas would offer her a ride.
She frowned at the realization before she put her phone on airplane mode. Audrey packed her things in a hurry just in case Lucas decided to stop by her department and caught her by surprise. "I need a backup plan, and fast!", Audrey thought as she switched off her laptop, picking her bag, and headed out of her cubicle.
She paused when she got to Sasha's table, suddenly feeling bad that she was going to disturb her. " Good evening Sasha!", Audrey called out, getting Sasha's attention, "ohh Audrey, how are you, aren't you supposed to be heading home?", she asked looking at Audrey. "Well…!", Audrey trailed, swallowing the lump in her throat as she was about to lie.
" Is there any side or back door out of the building by any chance?", "Why is the main entrance locked?", Sasha asked, frightened by Audrey's inability to convey information properly in that case. " Ohh no, I'm just avoiding someone!", "Okay then, you should have said that earlier!", Sasha said before she described where the side door was located.
Audrey didn't have a problem locating the side door Sasha had described for her, somehow, she was able to find her way through the confusing alleys before she told Prisca how her day went.
Lucas I'm the other hand was pissed since that morning because Audrey refused to pick up his calls and reply to his texts. His mood turned sour when he concluded, 'she was avoiding him!". Unfortunately for Craig and the other secretaries, they had a hard time dealing with Lucas because of his sour mood.
