Chapter 11 - At the Mercy of Alps

George and Rebecca's business took off, while Rebecca was still working at an IT firm, she was more like a silent partner, George mostly did all the work. The business took up its pace in the market. With George's generosity and trustworthiness, more and more clients came pouring in, who were looking to invest in his firm called Delta tech. With the increase in cash flow, he started to venture out for more partnerships and opportunities. Within no time, his clientele profile increased, and now he had increased his staff to 5 female employees. George was operating his business from home.

Daisy was happy to hear from Danielle that George was finally back on his feet and had started working to learn a living. Daisy decided to visit Pitești for the upcoming weekend and see for herself, how things were working out at home. Daisy entered home and found the home lively; she heard a lot of giggles and laughter coming straight from the room where George was seated. Daisy opened his room and found that George was surrounded by all his female employees, and he was the only male person sitting inside. It seemed more like a bar than an official workplace. Daisy greeted all of them and went to see Danielle in the kitchen. The delicious smell of her cooking was lingering all over the place. Daisy asked Danielle, "How are you, mom? What are you cooking today?" Danielle replied in anxiety, "Not how I am supposed to be…." Daisy did not understand and asked her instead, "What do you mean? Then how are you supposed to be??"

Danielle sighed with a heavy breath and said, "I have been cooking for all these female staffs as if I have opened a restaurant, and neither am I getting paid for it. Oh, wait! From now on, I don't get to have the keys to the money locker, but the female staff does. Seems, George is not interested in me, and barely treats me …. like I am a waitress, not his wife!" Daisy was an empath, she could feel, what Danielle was going through, to be treated worst than a waitress in her own house, she couldn't see – what was wrong with George; he was mean and troubled his family when life was against him, and in case life decided to bless him he acted as if he never had a family – he completely forgot about Daisy, Marcus & Danielle. Daisy was upset about what she heard from Danielle. Marcus, never stepped out of his room to even know what his father was doing in his own home. Marcus was all about playing video games online with his friends from Morning to evening, and in case any assignments came up for his university submissions – he did it if he wanted to, else left it.

Marcus was very choosier about the kind of food he wanted to have for each meal – this made it even tougher for Danielle to meet the demands of her son plus those 5 female staff who were working for George. It was more than two to three times when Daisy visited the home on weekends and felt neglected. Daisy felt as if she did not exist at all. This time, Daisy decided that her family was due for a family dinner together. She expressed her thought to go out to the nearby restaurant and enjoy quality family time. Crazy thing is, the house was never quiet, some or the other person often visited for something or the other. The house did not have the peace, it seemed to have earlier. Once, George's business peaked up, he never had dinner at home. All he wanted was outside food with his ex-work colleague who worked part-time with George's firm, who lived just around the corner.

George invited him to the family dinner too, considering he was known to the family – as a good friend. Daisy was fine, with everything until they reached the restaurant. George sat with his friend at a separate table and Marcus, Danielle, and Daisy at another table. George called the waiter very arrogantly. Daisy was getting tempered, seeing the behaviour of her father. Then suddenly his phone rang, and he started talking so loudly that everyone inside the restaurant could hear him talking about business as if he was the only businessperson earning in the room. George was mistreating the waiters, and Daisy's dream of spending sweet quality time with family was already over before it began.

Daisy was going dizzy about everything that was happening before her very eyes. Daisy could not believe, was he the same father, that 2 years ago was not willing to even bend a stick or get back on his feet – and today he was behaving as if he is the king of the place with nothing inside of him than just ego and arrogance. Daisy was feeling bad that her family was falling apart. She did not know, what she could do to change it. Daisy decided, it was only better for her to not visit home often, that would help her keep peace of mind. Daisy thought by focusing on her life, will help her improve the next steps she was wishing to take. Daisy right from her university times was interested in pursuing higher studies i.e., MBA, not because it seemed like a Mr Popular Course that everyone ran after– but because she thought it resonated with her personality very much.

Daisy thought it was the right time to leave her current job to pursue her studies further. She wanted to prepare for a competitive exam and get herself selected for the master's in International Business Management. She thought to discuss it with her family before she left her job. Danielle was not convinced by Daisy's opinion, she wanted her to continue with her job. On the other hand, George said, "you can leave the job, but first get me shop – for which I need to borrow money from the bank which can only be sanctioned on your salary pay!" Daisy thought, that going with George was a better option, as later she would get the freedom, she sought, to go further in the direction of her dreams. Daisy did not think of the unseen consequences that would later come with it. However, Daisy continued her job, until she was able to borrow a loan from the bank worth 1,200,000 RON.

Meanwhile, George was getting his pockets full, to expand his business and buy the shop on the first floor, at Royal Business Hub. George was going to deal with a client who could provide him business for 306M RON. George had planned a family gathering to meet this client near to his hometown. Daisy, Marcus, Danielle and George went on a road trip to Sighisoara. It was a long time since the family had not come together out for such trips & gatherings. The meeting was also joined by Rebecca and her family. The host had severed decently and both families found quality time to spend with each other. Daisy and Rebecca always got along so well. They both always dreamed of going together abroad and creating a better life for themselves than they had. They admired the Americans for their ability to make their dreams come true. This is where, Daisy met Talus, the person who was about to lure George into his business dealings for306 M RON. Daisy met her by the pool first time when George was discussing that Daisy wanted to leave her current job, and work toward something that she was passionate about. Talus suggested she, should work at one of the companies he was previously associated with. Daisy had a mind of her own, even if people suggested what to do and what not to do, she would still follow the path that she had decided for herself. She never relied on anyone else, but herself.

Georges' interaction with a future business partner, was more like a celebration party rather than discussing the nitty-gritty of the business deal. Once the meeting was over, Daisy's family left for Alba, the hometown from where George belonged to. Daisy's family reached Alba and having met all the family friends along the way after a long time, also greeted their relatives over homemade food and long-lost stories of each other. George was very happy with the way his business was going and wanted to throw a family dinner party, where he could proudly announce his success in business after he had lost his job. George wasted a lot of money in the name of happiness, Daisy did not like the way George was behaving, as if he was the only person in the world who had earned a million bucks in his lifetime. Daisy felt very wrong with such a kind of behaviour coming from her father. She clutched her fist and kept to herself.

The three-day trip to Sighisoara & Alba was over, Daisy returned to Slatina and the rest of her family to Pitești. Dorothy, Daisy's roommate was waiting for her as they were about to leave for their once-in-a-lifetime trip to Transylvanian Alps for trekking. Dorothy was like Daisy's best friend, they both had struggled in life from a family point of view, in love and in their careers too. They shared common ideals of doing something great in life and creating something on their own. This time, they both decided to go on a trekking trip, something they felt deserved and were due for quite a long time. Dorothy and Daisy packed their bags and boarded the bus full of strangers at night. The entire trip for Daisy was bunch full of unknown people, however for Dorothy, as she was a doctor- she knew a friend who frequently came on such trips and the reason why Daisy and Dorothy decided to have their first trip. Once, all the people on the bus had introduced themselves to each other, lights were off and loud music was being played all along the road.

The night road was completely dark, with no streetlights soon after it left the city's illuminating areas. This was a private bus and took many halts, whenever it felt as if the trip was all about enjoying the journey than reaching somewhere. As the bus reached mountainous areas Daisy was able to see white horses in the middle of the night, which made her feel delighted. The trekking group consisted of 6 females - all doctors & health nutritionists except for Daisy who was an engineer by profession, and 30 other males – coming from various backgrounds out of which a group of 5 people had joined the group late this morning as they came separately in their own car from Bucharest to Transylvanian Alps. Daisy was not known to them until later during the mid-trek. Daisy was frightened by the height of that huge rock and felt that she wouldn't be able to get down as her height was slightly shorter than it required to be. Benedikto (who belonged to the late group of 5 people), came along with his lean body and picked Daisy from the top of rock and got her down in a fraction of a second.

Daisy wondered for a while, what just happened – she was taken back for a while. The trekking was a difficult one, however, Daisy continued heading on her own way, she did not wait for anyone – not even Dorothy. Daisy loved getting herself immersed in nature – she had the spirit of adventure that she always longed for. Daisy was a sports athlete since her school days, she participated in several sports competitions like Volleyball, Marathons, Discus throw, long jump, relay races and many more– she also had been a sports captain of the school in her time. Likewise, driving through running waters to rocky ridges – she felt herself like a whole being in the valley of the Transylvanian Alps as if she had returned home. Many rocks made her frightened of death, but Daisy was all about falling and getting back up, throughout the trek. There were no safety lanyards or protective equipment for a safe trekking experience. It was all about being intuitive with the right feet at right time at the right place – otherwise, there were chances of major critical injuries.

Daisy later joined Benedikto's team, and they were the first ones to reach the campsite safely before the sun was about to set. The tents were already set up by local people and the sun had started setting on the horizon. Dorothy and her team were still late and doing the trek in dark, where visibility was a major issue. They reached the campsite late by 2 hours. Meanwhile, Daisy and her team had changed their clothes and freshened up. Had a tiny feast of freshly made Peasant Omelette, that was enjoyed with hot bread. Then the group set up a campfire, once everyone had their dinner. The next morning, it was time for getting up and freshening in the lap of mother nature, something that Dorothy and Daisy had never done, in quite a long time. Their experience was as funny and incredible. Later the trekking group had group selfies together and went climbing up the valley. Each move inside the valley was breathtaking, demanding more and more energy at each step. The dazzling waterfall at the top was exuberating its sparkling mists creating rainbows all around. This two-day trekking trip was over, and Daisy returned to her workplace with only freshness in her mind. Daisy was never the same person again, she had learned to conquer her fears by facing them straight in the eye, instead of running away from them. She had regained her lost courage and was ready to bounce back into her life with great passion force.

With the Christmas break that was still going on, Daisy was now ready to get back to work for a major shutdown activity that was going to happen across the plant - for doing the maintenance activities that involved more than 17+highly critical activities and 83+ other high-risk activities. The team deployed would be coming all continuous day without even a single day break, to ensure all activities were carried out safely. Daisy learnt during this shutdown period, that Norberto was getting engaged to someone else, and did not have the courtesy to even inform Daisy. She felt betrayed and could not stand it anymore. Once this shutdown break was over, Daisy decided to resign from the company to pursue her higher studies, as the loan worth 1,200,000 RON for George's commercial shop was sanctioned by the bank. Even if her mother told, her to continue with her current job – she resigned.

She was adamant about the decision she had taken, as she wanted to prepare for a competitive exam and get herself admitted to one of Romania's best Management Schools. She served her notice period for two months, while her journey with the corporate world ended and she returned to Pitești. Daisy decided to go after her dreams instead of people this time, even though she felt a little bit lonely this time, she carried on well enough to see her future shine bright enough in the days to come...
