Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

Laying on a sofa in the cool air, Emma and Miles ate ice cream and almond nuts, "do you think Ryan would ask about me?" Emma asked Miles slowly, he looked at her, "that's if he'd remember you should have come today" Miles said smiling, "well even if he doesn't, he'll get to know because we were supposed to Lodge in his hotel" Emma said, "oh...well if he doesn't ask about you I'll bring out that head of he's" Miles said and Emma laughed, "so yeah I'll be traveling to Melan tomorrow, wish you were coming along" she said Miles laughed, "and I wish you'd be staying at home with me too, you know I've got a lot of work with dad and can't just travel anywhere" he said. He stood up, going to get something, Emma suddenly remembered something as soon as he came back, "oh yeah, tell me something" she said smiling mischievously, "what now?"Miles said returning the same mischievous smile, "you and my best friend are a thing now right?", "Well I don't know that, how many relationships did you say she's been in?" He asked curiously, "I guess two" she said acting as though she didn't really know, "see keep this a secret between us but I think dad has another woman" Miles said looking around as if to check if someone vwas coming, "what...!" Emma shouted, her eyes wide opened, "cool down (he laughed) just pulling your legs" he said, Emma sighed, Miles would always joke when no one else was in the mood, "but I think I'm beginning to like Sarah but let's see how things go between us" he said, Emma smiled tiredly, "Sarah is complicated,I'm not sure if she wants to venture into another relationship now, she's still straightening up things with her first boyfriend" Miles sat up " thought they've broken up" he said, Emma rested her head in his shoulder, "yeah but the guys trying to come back, but she's not interested anyways, just take it slowly with her" Emma said,Miles nodded.

"Once you've arrived at Melan you call me"Miles told Emma as she hugged him, ready to leave for Melan, she carried her box, it was that kind of journey of which someone who started off in the day would arrive very late at night, "dad please I want to ask again"Emma said frowning, "don't bother asking because I won't let you drive by yourself all the way to Melan" dad shouted. Emma shrugged her shoulders as she put her box into Mile's car as he held the door open for her, Miles smiled at them both, "see you dad" Miles called out , "tell your grandma I love her " Mr Pete said slamming the door behind them.

Emma tucked her hands in her sweaters and put on a woolly capas the train set out for Melan. Grandma loved it there because it was a place where she grew up, a place where she had raised her daughter, Emma's mother till she met Mr Pete who took them both out of the country side but her heart had always been at Melan so as soon as Miles was born she requested to go back to Melan. She believed that eating fresh farm produce from Melan was more healthy for her. Melan was a community of it's kind, choosing not adjust to the fast changing economic development, there were little factories and industries in the place, and it was a country side where people still lived in ancient big family houses that seemed to have stood for ages. In Melan there was only one public school for all the children in the neighborhood. Melan was also known for it's ancient forests and gigantic trees and gigantic trees. "This was the place where my mother was born" Emma thought as she caught sight of it's evergreen plains. She had been here many years ago when she was only six. When mum and dad had had a huge misunderstanding, mum had left with her, leaving Miles to dad not like she wanted to but situations had gotten things that way. Even if she had had any friends, she sure wouldn't have recognized them, she thought. "But I'm sure this place wouldn't be so boring with Grandma" she said to herself.

Carried away by her thoughts, she laid her head beside a passenger who equally seemed to have been too carried away to complain. In few minutes she was fast asleep. Around quarter past ninein the night, their train arrived at Melan, "Melan the green...!" She heard a passenger yell, "we're finally here" she muttered. Passengers scurried here and there, struggling for their luggages to be off-loaded first. Emma got down slowly, cursing the situation and sighing aloud, just then the passenger who had shouted "Melan the green" touched her, his eyes as soft as grass itself, smiling he asked, "why the sigh...this is a delightful land?", Emma looked at him irritated, he seemed to be in his late thirties, not like she didn't approve of his looks, but that she was in a messy situation and now he came to talk to her. Well he couldn't be described as poor or rich, he looked like a middle class from his dressing, Emma thought not like she cared though.
