Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

"But speaking of Ryan....."Emma started as they walked out of the water where they had been swimming to the spot they had put their bedspread..., "What about him?"Sarah asked relaxing once more, "he hasn't called me in months yet", Sarah looked at her friend hysterically, "what's wrong with him that he hasn't called you in months yet?", Turning Emma over for an explanation she wasn't ready to justify either, Emma sighed dryly, "since I told him I was coming home for the vacation, he hasn't called me again....(shrugging her shoulders) I don't know but I feel like I don't care either" Emma said, "that's not what a relationship should be like.."Sarah began, Emma laughing said, "now look who's talking to me on relationships, when you're not in one" , Sarah laughed, "speaking of relationships, I've been in two and I'm done with two" Sarah said with an obvious air of pride. Emma coughed jokingly, "currently aren't you miserably single?" Emma said standing up to get pursued by Sarah but surprisingly Sarah just sat still smiling, "you know, I felt broken two times, it's not something I'd like to venture into again" Sarah said meditatively, "but your first boyfriend was really cool" Emma said like a child dreamily, Sarah smiled rather awkwardly, as though not wanting to think of that, "Thinking of Josh, my first kiss, I don't think I can remember any day we didn't get across to each other through whichever means" Sarah said rather seriously, "I really had my eyes on him"Emma said getting up again for a hot chase , this time Sarah stood up dragging the half running girl by her towel they both laughed aloud, taking a walk around the beach. "Sarah can love expire?" Emma asked rather seriously, Sarah took a look at her friend, she seemed to be in another world of her own, at times one would think she was in a really good mood but on the other hand she would be battling with thoughts in her mind, "love, I don't think love can expire, it's unquenchable" Sarah said with passion to Emma, she looked at her friend's eyes as she said this, Sarah might as well turn into a love counselor when they grew up, or weren't they already grown up she thought. They both were soon carried away watching an elderly man who had just settled in near their resting spot with his very young wife and their two little girls. "I wonder why some women, really with their eyes wide opened would be going for elderly men..."Sarah said, "well just like you'd go for younger men, you know everyone have their choices" Emma said thoughtfully. The girls remained silent, they both lost in their own thoughts, it was indeed a world full of desires, full of ambitions and dreams, everyone had to fight through to his desired life.

Someone who seemed to have walked past them, came back as though realizing he knew one of the girls, Emma lay still, sure it wasn't her he knew, who did she know in this town or rather who knew her, she had been born in this town but have spent most of her life in California schooling, so she hardly knew anyone from her hometown. "Emma....." the guy called out with pleasure filled eyes, she sat up abruptly, trying to place where she had seen him, one thing was sure, she knew him, "hello..." she managed to say, "Stephen" he introduced himself, his eyes as bright as the stars, he was undeniably handsome, looking gorgeous on the shorts he was putting on as they were at the beach, he had his hair all curled up, looking more like a movie star,"Stephen the guy from high school who helped you with a textbook when you lost your way to your form on your first day in school at California" he said further, he was charming enough though, Sarah thought, she was the type who could easily get carried away by one's looks. "Oh you were in a higher grade than I was then" Emma said suddenly remembering, he smiled "how on earth could you recognize me like that?" she said standing up rather impressed, "well everyone have what they're remembered for, that long hair of yours" he said with a wink, Emma smiled touching her hair and nodding at the same time, "well what brings you here?"She asked "school thing, was sent here for a course research project, been here for nearly two weeks now" he said, Emma held out her hand to Sarah, "meet my friend, Sarah" Sarah waved still sitting "hello", he smiled approvingly, "okay, we'd be leaving soon though" Emma said in a surprising rush, "you're leaving already" Stephen asked sadly, "actually we've been here for a very very long time" Emma said, Sarah nodded, "uhm this is my address, would love to catch up with you girls again" he said handing over a card, as he left Sarah hit Emma angrily, "how late are we?, why didn't you just let the boy go on?" Emma shrugged her shoulders. She didn't like the feeling of meeting old friends out of the blue, Sarah knew though but didn't understand why. Both girls walked back home, feeling refreshed.

"Say hello to Miles for me" Sarah said giggling, "oh yeah... about what we discussed, just follow him slowly (Sarah looked at her quite confused), I mean my brother, he's really complicated you know, don't think he really likes you because he might not and don't think he doesn't because he might" Emma said seriously, Sarah laughed "well I think you yourself is complicated...what kind of poem is this you're saying to me (she laughed), don't think he really likes you because he might not and don't think he doesn't like you because he might ...." Both girls burst into a cheerful laughter, they were just best friends, they soon parted ways to their various homes.
