The sharp rays of the sun let in itself through the partly shaded windows as though saying 'I should be everywhere'. The rays of the sun striking a metallic object on Emma's table reflecting on Emma, opening her eyes she shut it quickly due to the blinding effect, adjusting on another side of the bed she opened her eyes slowly and stood up, "what time is it already...?" she said dryly yawning as she walked towards the alarm clock, it was nine in the morning, "oh mine, how long did I sleep...", remembering that her mother had told her the previous night to try getting up early so that they could prepare pancakes for breakfast. She walked out, half dragging her feet to the kitchen, putting some water on the gas cooker, she made for the passage door. Stepping out to the courtyard and looking towards the gate she sighted her neighbor Max, who always seemed to be busy with something, as of today he was busy trimming the flowers by his house, he lived in a big house left for him by his grandparents. He lived there with a young lady who was neither he's wife nor his girlfriend, no one understood he's relationship with the lady whose name was Riona. Some people said the lady did pay rent while some said she was he's cook but no one really knew. Everyone just took the information that suited him.
"Hey...." Emma said to Max, Max nodded as he whistled trimming the flowers, "today's a bit sunny" she said slapping her legs as though something perched on her legs, "hey now that's an understatement, seriously" he said. Emma smiled not sure of what she was still doing out here, "I put water on fire, do come in for tea" she said with a smile invitingly and left. Her steps as graceful as she was.
She sat down to a hot big cup of tea with a novel and a plate of sandwiches, she also made some cookies to eat during the day. Alone she sat down and sipped her tea , nothing was better than this she thought, even though she would have loved the company of her friends but still at times one needed to be left alone she thought. She thought of how mum would react to her waking up late. A familiar scent filled the room, she turned around with admiration to whom she thought it was, MILES her senior brother by just a year though, Miles had always preferred the company of he's friends to staying at home especially when Emma was at school, he was already done with university and was working in he's father's company. She stood up hugging him tight "welcome run away brother" she said almost laughing. Miles laughed and sat beside her "you're enjoying yourself here..... didn't even know when you got back" he said touching her hair. "I just got back you know it's not up to a week though, well how did you now get to know?" He stood up to get water"I saw your car parked by the road as I came back from sports yesterday, my baby sis was back and no one even felt like telling me.....not fair" he said drinking water . "It's not like that though"Emma said getting food for him too "besides if you stay at home more often you wouldn't need to be informed" she said. "Oh that no ..I can't stay at home as I'm not ready for dad reprimanding me all the time" he said taking some tea. "Anyways you look finer" he said and winked at her. Brothers were the best things Emma thought.
