Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

The girls discussed excitedly as they talked about where they'd be spending the summer. Actually no one was listening to another as they all spoke at once. It was always like this at Emma's house each time the girls were on vacation. They were doing a Masters Degree Program at the University so currently they were released for vacation. These girls have been friends for ages almost since they were seven. Some of their parents were business partners while some we're colleagues at the same work place, thus the children grew to know each other. Mrs Pete, Emma's mother , a comfortable woman in her late forties peered into the room,"Tea is set". The girls continued discussing as though they heard no one, "hey girks, tea is set except if you guys aren't interested" Emma said carelessly standing up from the sofa, Sarah her closest friend slid her arms round Emma's shoulders, "somehow I'm thinking we should spend this Holly at Australia, what do you think?" Emma gave a sigh saying, "I don't know all, all I know is tea is set and I'm off" she said walking away. The other girls, Brenda, Roseline,Grace and Sarah stood up and left for the dinning room. They took Emma's house as their house and Emma who was almost like the only child of the Pete family as her brother Miles was seldomly around, also took the girls as her siblings. Her father Mr Pete was literally the wealthiest man in their community as he was an entrepreneur right from his teens , some people did say that he didn't complete his education but the nature of grammar he usually spoke counterfeited the people's statement, however true it was that Mr Pete did not finish his education at that time due to he's parent's financial instability but as soon as he got money he ran through some programs and courses in other to meet up with the standards of those he did business with. He now had a big business center with many employees, no doubt people came from far and near to patronize him. Emma had of course gone to the best schools right from when she was a kid, she literally lacked nothing, rare enough she had a good character, she was a girl in her twenties beautified by nature itself, having a complete set of white sparkling teeth, eyebrows looking like interwoven horse tail, her hair darkish brown and growing towards her lower back, people had always asked if she was an Indian due to her very long hair. Her eyes were as bright as her life her grandmother would always say, she usually again topped the class and was engaged in many regional academic competitions.

Set on the dining table was different jugs containing different makes of tea accompained with sandwiches, each person pouring the tea they preferred into their glass. "Where have you girls decided to spend the vacation?" Mr Pete asked wearing a neutral expression, "well dad we're still deciding" Emma said eating her sandwich in bits and regretting what she had just said for her father hated it when people were indecisive over a long time. "Why don't you girls consider Australia or you might as well keep deciding till forever?" Mr Pete said in a rather unfriendly tune and gulping he's tea down as though already late for an occasion, was there ever a time he ate relaxed....Mrs Pete thought. Well everyone knew why Mr Pete had chosen Australia, for Ryan, Emma's boyfriend right from high school lived in Australia with he's parents and Mr Pete had always longed for Emma to visit Ryan's place and parents so this was he's opportunity they thought. "Uhm Dad....." Emma mumbled not sure of what to say "What ?.....you girls will be going to Australia" He said , He's wife coughed giving him a signal with her eyes as though saying, don't impose your will on the girls, but he didn't bulge on that any bit but rather went on saying, "Later Grace and Emma you both will go and book the tickets " with that he stood up , He's guest Mr Larry, a young man from work hurriedly followed him as they both made for the door. Emma threw a glance at her mother who on the other hand stood up to attend to the door, someone had come, Mrs Lorna, the gardener who had come to collect her month's pay . "I don't know why but I don't want to go there" Emma said gazing at the ceiling with a tune that was more like for herself. The other girls glanced over at her, as though saying, just go there....
