Right, where's my homeroom? I was in such a rush that I didn't realize the direction I was going. What's the class number again? Right, it's Class 1-1. Using a directory sign, I soon found my homeroom. I tried to enter the room quietly but soon caught the class's attention.
"Good morning, Miss Amelia Knight, right? Please take a seat. We were talking about what we did over break," said my homeroom teacher.
I nodded and quickly chose an empty seat. It was a seat at the very back of the room next to the window—such a nice seat, lucky that nobody took it. I made eye contact with my next-door partner. I nodded at him before taking a seat. I focused on what at homeroom teacher was saying.
"Now that Miss Amelia has joined us let's go around with self-introductions. I will reintroduce myself. I will be your homeroom teacher this year; please refer to me as Mr. Archer. Now, starting from the first row, please come up and say your name and give everyone a small introduction," my homeroom teacher, Mr. Archer, said.
Everyone made their introductions, and after about half an hour, before drowsiness hit me, it got my turn. I made my way up and then turned around, facing my classmates. I will introduce myself nice and short.
"Hello, everybody. I'm Amelia Knight. I hope we get along well."
Before I could return to my seat, Mr. Archer said.
"Miss Amelia, congratulations on your candidacy."
Everyone quickly snapped out of their half-sleepiness when they heard that. Great, why does this always happen to me? One by one, their curious gazes landed on me. At this rate, I might as well get used to it. Out of everyone's expression, my desk partner caught my attention. He was smiling at me. Thinking it polite, I smiled back. I thanked the teacher before making my way back to my seat.
The next one to introduce themselves was my desk partner. He smiled brightly and began.
"Hello, my name is Kyril Channing. Nice to meet you all. I-"
Before he could continue, shouts and clapping started. Before it began to get out of hand, Mr. Archer spoke up.
"Quiet down, everybody. I know you're excited, but let Mr. Channing finish."
"Thank everyone, and thank you, Mr. Archer. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, and let's have a good school year," Kyril said enthusiastically. He hi-fived and fist-bumped a couple of people on his way before he sat back down.
The rest of the introductions went peacefully. It wasn't until our dismissal to lunch that I suddenly realized. Kyril had the same last name as the Headmaster!
