Chapter 9 - Mother (1)

The end of the first day of school was supposed to be free and lax, but I had something to do. What the Headmaster said weighed on my mind, but I quickly got rid of useless thoughts. I sped- walked home, prepared to fight for my life. Win or loss can mean life or death.

When I finally reached home, I stood outside the entrance. I leaned against the door for a little while before going in. Sigh. Let's do this.

I walked through the hallway, which seemed longer than usual. I reached the living room, and the person I was looking for was sitting on the couch, watching the TV. Mother. Did she know that she'll be facing my wrath today?

I mustered up my strength and said.

"Mother, we need to talk."

Her head turned and faced me. We made eye contact. She then proceeded to give a big smile. I instantly lost all my pent-up frustrations. I felt an incoming headache. Why are the people surrounding me all like this?

"Amelia~! Welcome back! How was school? You have to tell me all about it! Did you make any friends? How was class?" My mother began talking in rapid fire. Why is it always so tricky talking with her?

"Wait, wait, wait," I signaled her to stop. I continued, "Mother, before that, we have something vital to discuss."

"Amelia, why do you always have that face when looking at me? Also, why are you so formal now? I remember when you used to call me mommy. A child's supposed to have fun in their youth," She started nagging me, seemingly not taking notice of my question.

I gave her a look and firmly said.

"Mother."

Seeing how I wasn't budging, she conceded and said.

"Fine, what do you want to talk about?"

She signaled me to sit beside her. I proceeded to take a seat. I gathered all my thoughts and got straight to the point.

"Did you happen to get a mail from the academy? Like the one about being a student representative?"

It took a while for her to think it through before she casually said.

"I did. Was it crucial? What they asked seemed pretty harmless, so I just agreed to it. The chances of being a representative were pretty low. Plus, it seems pretty fun even if you do get in. What, why are you looking at me like that again?"

I gave my mother an exasperated look. I just knew this would happen.

I held back my sigh and said.

"Mother, no matter how small, if it concerns me, you should ask me."

She suddenly tearfully began to say.

"My baby has suddenly grown up. Hah, before I know it, she will get married," I gave her a tissue. She wiped her tears and continued, "It's okay, Amelia. I'll try to tell you. Sigh. To think you'll grow up so quickly."

Mother's always so spontaneous. It's kind of hard to get used to. Anyways, at least she gave her word, although there'll be some trials and errors. However, there was a more important matter to discuss.
