She wanted to scream with joy but she didn't have her voice so she decided to howl instead moment after another. She wasn't familiar with the process and it was basically not a way to express joy but her excitement got the best of her.
The wind caressed her furry skin and the cold snuggled her in a comfortable hug. She was awestruck by the nature that surrounded her. The moonlight outside of the cell beamed so marvelously that she had to believe it was the Moon Goddess herself whom she'd always prayed to.
The purity of the moon reflected from the surface of the ground and everywhere else where the light had made contact with. Evelyn's paws came to a halt as she approached the eye-catching end of her run. Her curiosity had already gained dominance over every part of her self-control as she continued to advance towards a threatening mystery, a dark adventure.
Right beside her was a pond which had the glowing moon's feature imprinted on its water with pink lotuses swimming on it. In front of her was a low hill whose crest reached the end of a moon as gigantic as she'd never witnessed. And the light radiating from its body was matching the heat of the sun except it being more welcoming and soothing. She was almost lost and given up the need to run and get away from this place as soon as possible. She'd forgotten about the danger and it was already too late to come back to her senses.
She'd been way too much distracted by the weather as her wolf was admiring the view of the full moon. None of them saw that inevitable happen as they're thrown across the pond. They groaned in pain as they felt a bone or two getting displaced inside their body. And her wolf hurriedly threw Evelyn back the control and hid back in the deepening core of her mind.
'Coward.' Evelyn muttered.
Evelyn tried to get back on her paws but her stomach hurt way too much and only then she could feel the fluid that was discharged from her body. She was bleeding and it was alarming that her wound wasn't healing by itself. His claws had made a lasting mark on her skin which would take days to heal, a very nasty wound.
As she elevated her head up to see the invader she saw a large wolf whose fur had a mixed combination of black and brown hues. His glowing teak wood eyes were hungry and enlarged with anger. Evelyn instantly knew he was an angry, annoyed beta and in some part of her brain she'd considered this probability but never so soon.
He neared her, snarling as he did. Grit was clear in his eyes that threatened to tear her apart. She tried to sneak back away from him as fast as she could but all of that meant nothing if you're face to face in a battle with a beta.
She captured herself in her arms and stood her ground, trying to hold enough energy to fight back. He gazed at her intently before an amused expression spread in his eyes. He had hoped for her to give up and cry but she was something else entirely from him imagination. Evelyn was still gasping from the sore in her gut but she had to remind herself no one was coming to her rescue, it was a do or die situation and she had way too many plans yet to fulfill and dreams yet to live.
"I'll enjoy biting your head off princess." He mind-linked her in an amused tone making her think he was smirking on the inside. He wasn't going to take mercy on his enemy's daughter and his lethal eyes made that intention crystal clear in them.
She needed a while to figure out how to talk back to him. She had sorted out the message she was going to pass but this mind-linking was new to her. The only reason she knew about it was because she had seen William doing it with Oscar whenever he was talking business during dinner or breakfast so she wouldn't be involved.
"You could always try." Evelyn responded once she was able to figure this thing out. And she had to admit, it was fun.
What wasn't fun was that he hopped at her the next moment locking her underneath himself. He snarled at her just like she had done to him back in the prison, baring his fangs at her. She winced in pain and thought for a stupid while that he'd stop after that. Although much to her surprise, his claws elevated and with an inhuman force dug into the side of her neck.
Her wolf and she let out an agonizing squeal. He was putting all his weight on her and she couldn't take it. She was getting suffocated and needed air and the fact that he still had his claws deep into her flesh didn't help. She noticed his face was close, too close to her mouth. She took the opportunity and dug her fangs into his chest and bit down hard.
He let out a loud squeal before hopping off of her and stumbling beside her in pain. Evelyn's head suddenly felt light as she tried to stand on her paws. She had the urge to swoon right away but prevented herself from doing so. It'd be the death of her if she fell right now.
She could feel him getting worked up beside her. She grasped the most definite probability that he'd attack her soon enough so she began to scamper away from him as swift as she could in the little amount of time she had. She ran shaking her head from time to time to wake herself from a momentary trance. She was slowing down and he was catching up with her very quickly but before he could've approached her, before she could've taken a turn, she collided with a metal like wall and due to the force fell back, perplexed.
Her eyes fluttered open and she noticed the beta behind her in a defending position, he was restraining himself from attacking her. She felt this troubling aura lingering in the air she breathed, this dominant scent that laced the nature around her. She had a guess to what it might belong to but she was scared and so was her wolf. That scent was far too deep and strong to be possessed by an ordinary wolf.
Evelyn unhurriedly stood her ground again as her eyes hovered on the drenched bush beneath her paws. She just didn't have the courage to do it, to look this wolf in the eye. The power that was radiating off his body had her cowering into a corner but the beta behind her was restraining her from making another move.
"Look at me." The wolf ordered through a mind-link and his tone sent shivers down her spine. It wasn't a request but rather a firm order which she was daring to disobey.
She had never looked into William's eyes in front of her pack because he was the alpha and meeting his eyes meant challenging him and yet this alpha was asking her to look at him. Evelyn was beyond terrified, the blood rushed in her veins at an inhuman pace. It was a daunting experience to not endeavor and run for the hills as she felt his scent approaching her.
She involuntarily slipped behind until his head came on top of hers and he barked at her again, "Look at me!" This time Evelyn obeyed because of the intensity of his tone.
She took a deep breath as she gazed up at his face.
The first thing to catch her eyes was his glistening, pitch-black fur that lay all over his skin. And sharp fangs coming out of his big snout bound her to think of him as a feral predator. His snout was long like that of a lycan she'd heard in stories. His face revealed his ending patience towards her. She hadn't seen many wolves in her life, especially not an alpha. She hadn't seen her father in his wolf form so it was overwhelming for her to come into the presence of another alpha. Though what caught her most off guard were his eyes.
His eyes were a deep shade of forest green that reminded her of warmth and home. They caught her off guard, for a moment they abducted her from this misery and brought her to a world of pleasure and joy; rainbows and unicorns yes. She had no idea how long she'd been staring before her paws began to feel weak. She felt herself too heavy to stand on her little paws and not too soon after, she gave in.
She gave in and she fell right there in front of him, on her paws. Her eyes slowly peeked up to see his expression, expecting it to be raging with anger but they're just as stunned as hers, if not more. She knew she was either looking too stupid or too innocent lying like that but the weight still hadn't left her and she just lied there, unsure what to do.
A moment later when she felt her head gaining a bit conscious, she clumsily stood on her fragile paws and realized that the alpha was twice her size. She would've read his face a little better if he was in his human form but she could tell his wolf was a bit mystified too.
"Did you just submit to me?" His voice wasn't angry but stunned at his own words.
And then she realized the grave sin she'd just committed.
