Chapter 44 - Chapter 44

Evie was silent all throughout the ride home, she had nothing to say and hoped that Ezekiel would be able to believe her explanations.

Surprisingly, when they got home, Ezekiel did not ask anything and they both went separate ways.

Evie freshened up and went downstairs to have breakfast.

She noticed the awful looks she got from the workers but she could not pinpoint why they were looking at her that way.

When she got to the dining table, Alexa served her food with a mean expression.

"Alexa, did I do something wrong?" Evie asked.

"No you didn't," Alexa replied. Evie was no fool and she noticed the heavy sarcasm in her words.

Evie did not say anything and ate in silence, though her mind was in chaos, she tried to act tough.

After eating, she found herself heading for the garden.

The cries of people made her head to the end of the garden only to find group of some men torturing the people she recognized as the security personnels she pranked.

"What is going on here?" She asked as she walked further towards them.

"Can't you see that they are wounded? Why are you still beating them?" She yelled at the group of men standing with a whip in their hands.

"Milady, instructions from his Highness, prince Ezekiel," one of the men answered.

"His Highness? Is Ezekiel some kind of royalty?" Evie asked.

Just as the man was about to say something, Alexa interrupted.

"Ma'am, you are not meant to be here,"

"Alexa, what is happening here?" Evie asked while Alexa heaved deeply.

"As you can see, they are been tortured," came Alexa's reply.

"Why?"

"Because of you," Alexa replied coldly.

"Me? Why is Ezekiel torturing them because of me?" Evie asked.

"Because you sneaked out of the house to a club and you fooled us all," Alexa said with irritation in her voice.

"I am sorry," Evie said, more like a whisper.

"There is no need for you to be sorry ma'am, we failed in our duty of safeguarding you," Alexa said flatly.

"I am deeply sorry for what happened Alexa, I promise it won't repeat itself again," Evie apologized sincerely.

Alexa only flashed her a sad smile and gestured for Evie to follow her inside.

Evie made up her mind to talk to Ezekiel whenever she meets him.

The full day passed without any sign of Ezekiel.

Evie breathed out heavily as she walked out of her room, she hoped that she would see Ezekiel today so she could talk to him.

It was the dawn of a new day, and she wanted to correct the mistakes she made.

She walked downstairs majestically and headed for the dining table but froze when she saw the figure sitting on the dining chair with his gaze fixed on the laptop.

Evie had wanted to speak with him but now that he was around, she could not summon the courage to talk to him again.

She turned to leave but halted in her tracks she heard Ezekiel say,

"I wouldn't do that if I were you."

Evie slowly turned and her gaze connected with that of Ezekiel's.

She flashed him a smile which he didn't return and then walked up to him.

She quietly drew out a chair and sat with her arms folded at her chest. There was no food on the table meaning that breakfast hadn't been served.

The silence that reigned between the both of them made Evie uncomfortable, and it seemed like Ezekiel didn't want to bring up the topic of the club incident.

"Where is your ring?" Ezekiel asked, causing Evie to gulp. Juicy was the one with her ring.

"Em, I…I… Juicy is the one with it," she hurriedly said as she bowed her head down.

Ezekiel lifted his gaze from the laptop to look at Evie.

"Here is your ring," Ezekiel handed her over her ring.

"How did you get it?" Evie asked but as usual no response from Ezekiel.

Just then Alexa arrived with their meal and served them.

Evie could not help but notice how Alexa looked at her with irritation and disgust.

She remembered the men that were been tortured because of her misconduct, they were all in trouble because of her.

Yes, Alexa has every right to be upset with her but she was ready to make amends and correct her wrongs.

"Ezekiel," she called and Ezekiel lifted his gaze from his food and their eyes connected.

Evie subconsciously gulped before saying, "I am sorry for what I did. I know what I did was wrong but please can you order your men to stop torturing the security personnels, they did nothing wrong," Evie said.

Ezekiel cocked an eyebrow at her while leaning of his chair.

"I would rather take their punishment," Evie added quickly.

"That is so nice of you wife, but who said you don't have your punishment? Remember there is always consequences for a wrong action," Ezekiel said with a smirk on his face.

"Punishment?" Evie asked, looking confused.

Ezekiel reached out for her chin and caressed it with his palm, his face had a smirk on it.

"Yes wife, no one defiles my order and not gets punished," Ezekiel added as his hand played with her red hair.

"Red," he muttered under his breath. He liked the colour of her hair, it gives her this bad girl vibe that he likes.

"If I accept my punishment then you would have to stop torturing those security personnels I pranked," Evie said.

"You have no choice than to accept the punishment, Evelynn," he said with his usual stoic face.

Evie sighed, she liked the previous playful Ezekiel to the ever serious Ezekiel.

"And forget about the security personnels, they failed to protect you so they would be punished as well," Ezekiel said firmly.

She sighed in defeat, as she heaved deeply.

"So what is my punishment?" Evie asked bravely.

"Good question Evelynn," Ezekiel said and smiled before reaching out for her red hair and curling it on his finger.

He looked up to view her face and saw her staring at his finger which had her hair on it.

"Alexa!!" He called and the next minute Alexa arrived.

"Read out the rules for my wife," he instructed and Alexa went to get a book.

"Rules?" Evie asked.

Ezekiel smiled before lifting her chin with his hand, "this is just the beginning, wife. There are a lot to come as well as many punishments for you. It high time things changed in this house,"

A/N: So sorry for the late update.
