Chapter 50 - Chapter 50

Evie stared into the dark space as the wind blew her hair backwards.

Her eyes were filled with unshed tears, many things that she couldn't understand were going through her mind.

No matter how much she thought about it, she couldn't come up with an idea of what happened to her mother.

"You are outside," Ezekiel's voice startled her.

Ezekiel stood beside her, the air blowing his hair backwards as well.

She felt his hand on hers, she looked up at him only to see his stoic face.

"Come inside, it will rain anytime soon," Ezekiel told her and she only nodded her head in agreement.

*******************************

The morning sun rays peeked through the curtains of her room making her yawn and stretch.

Sluggishly, she stood up from the bed and went to freshen up.

After bathing, she applied a little makeup and wore a simple black gown.

Evie was heading to the dining room when she heard familiar voices in the kitchen attracting her there.

"I need you to prepare hot tea for Evie before she wakes up," Alice told the chef.

"Yes ma'am," the chef replied with a bow.

Alice turned around only to find leaning on the door.

"Evie, you are awake already, come here," Alice outstretched her hand for a hug which Evie reciprocated.

"How was your night?" Alice asked, running her hands through her hair.

"Fine mother," Evie replied as she forced a smile on her face.

"That is good to hear. Now, go to the sitting room and wait for breakfast," Alice turned her around and slightly pushed her to leave the kitchen.

Evie didn't say anything, she just left. Arriving in the sitting room, Ezekiel sitted on the single king sized golden chair with his laptop on his lap.

"Good morning," Evie greeted, though she wasn't expecting a reply.

"Good morning, how was your night?" Ezekiel asked.

Evie's eyes almost fell off the socket,

What did Ezekiel just ask her? Did he just reply to her greetings?

"It was fine," Evie managed to say without stammering, earning a smile from Ezekiel.

What was wrong with Ezekiel? She couldn't tell but maybe he was affectionate to her because her mother died.

That was the only suitable explanation for Ezekiel's weird behaviour that she could think of.

"Alright the two of you, come over to the dining room, breakfast is ready," Alice announced as the duo made their way to the dinning.

Ezekiel sat at the head of the table, his mother sat at his right that hand side while Evie sat at his left hand side.

Alexa served them their food. Afterwards they digged into their meal.

"Mom, don't you have a husband to attend to?" Ezekiel asked after a short moment of silence.

"Alaska can take care of himself besides I am here to stay with my daughter in law who lost her mother. I know that I am invading your private time with your beloved wife but pardon me, I would soon leave," Alice said and winked at Evie whose face turned red instantly.

She looked at Ezekiel to see if he was affected by what Alice said but he looked less bothered.

"She is fine, just leave," Ezekiel said.

"Oh come on Ezekiel! Do you think it is easy to lose a mother? Do you think you can do without your parents?" Alice asked.

"Of course, it is not like I need you guys so dearly," Ezekiel retorted.

"That is enough Ezekiel!" Evie yelled hitting the table which caused a loud bang.

"It is okay Evie," Alice said, flashing her a sad smile.

Yes, she was right, this woman never runs out of smiles.

"You never know the value of what you have until you lose it, so let him be. I have seen worse than this," Alice added, still smiling.

Evie glanced at Ezekiel who did not even care about what his mother said.

Now she thought of it, does he have a heart or at least conscience?

"I would have to visit my dad today," Evie announced after a short silence.

"Why? Has your dad not contacted you yet?" Alice asked, still eating her food.

"No he hasn't, my cell phone is damaged," Evie lied looking over at Ezekiel whose expression did not falter.

If she had told Alice that her cell phone was confiscated, then she would have to bring up the topic of what happened at the club which of course she didn't want so it was better she lied.

"Alright, I think Zeke would assign bodyguards to you before you leave, it is for your own safety," Alice said with a smile.

'Obviously he would,' Evie told herself.

After the splendid breakfast, Evie got ready to visit her father, though she still felt insecure about her father, she would still go see him.

Nothing really changed since she left her father's house, it looked the same except that there was not a living soul around.

It seemed like all the workers had left or they got sacked, she couldn't tell.

Her father was leisurely sitting on the couch with his legs crossed when she came in.

She swallowed when her eyes connected with her father's deadly eyes.

"Dad," she called out before sitting on the sofa opposite him.

"Why are you here?" He asked, his voice really showed that he disliked her.

"Dad, you have heard the news, right?" Evie asked, trying not to sound scared.

"And?" Richard lifted an eyebrow.

"Mom is dead."

"And?" Richard asked again.

"I don't get dad, my mother is dead and so is your wife!" Evie spat.

"Point of correction, my ex wife,"

"Whether ex wife or wife I don't care, she was once Mrs Sonia Tan, so please dad, can we talk about giving her a befitting burial?" Evie pleaded.

Richard heaved deeply before he stood up and approached his daughter. He lifted her chin up and stared into her emerald green eyes.

"Your mother no longer has any connection with me so I don't owe her anything," Richard said without remorse.

"Can't you do something for someone for once in your life dad?" Evie asked.

"Listen Evie, I do not want to have anything to do with your mom especially when she divorced me," Richard added and just when he finished speaking someone emerged.

"Sir, the job has been done, we have eradicated her," the man spoke while Evie's eyes widened.

Eradicated who?
