Or was Loraine simply too conscious because she wasn't used to this and Kent was a dashing man? '
Loraine didn't have the time to date back in her old world, so she wasn't that used to men. And men back there don't do these gestures anymore.
Ah, now that she has thought about it, should she also consider being in a relationship in this world?
Nah, it was too much trouble.
From what she could recall, her colleagues who were in a relationship back then always had a lot of troubles.
She didn't want any more problems when all she wanted to do was relax.
'But seriously, when will he let go of my hand? 'Loraine glanced at their hands.
Her hands looked so much smaller compared to Kent's huge hands.
"Hey, quit it! You are embarrassing me, right when you arrive," Mr. Alistair said, and he grabbed Kent's hand with his uninjured hand.
Loraine's hand was finally free.
"I'm so sorry, Miss Loraine.
He is a good person.
He is just a bit weird sometimes."
Mr. Alistair looked more troubled than when he was injured.
It was quite funny that she couldn't help a light chuckle.
"Haha. It's alright, Mr. Alistair. It's nice to have all sorts of friends." Loraine let it pass.
"Lent, let's just go," Mr. Alistair called out.
"I was just greeting Miss Loraine first," Kent reasoned.
He got a glare from Mr. Alistair, but his friend was obviously used to it, so it wasn't working.
"What were you up to while you were away anyway? "
Kent gave Mr. Alistair a teasing look. He seemed to be misunderstanding something.
"I was in some trouble, and Miss Loraine helped me out. Now, stop being rude and apologize. Quit weirding her out," Mr. Alistair warned with a more stern look this time.
"Oh, was that too weird? I'm so sorry, Miss Loraine," Kent apologized for the second time.
"It's okay. I was just surprised, that's all." Loraine maintained her polite smile.
"Thank you! Miss Loraine is so understanding and gorgeous," Kent said frivolously, and Mr. Alistair sighed in exasperation.
"I need to go before he weirds you even more, Miss Loraine. Thank you for everything. Goodbye, Miss Loraine," Mr. Alistair said.
"Goodbye, Mr. Alistair. I hope for your fast recovery," Loraine replied and watched as Mr. Alistair got out of the lounge with the help of Mr. Gram and Kent.
***
"Did you really have to do that? "Alistair chided, even more once they were out of hearing range.
Hopefully, Miss Loraine wasn't too disappointed after what Kent did.
Sometimes, Alistair truly didn't want to be with Kent at all. Kent simply does his antics, even in the most serious situations.
What happened earlier was so embarrassing to Miss Loraine and her cohorts.
Kent could have chosen the time and place for his antics.
"Oh, come on.
It's just her hand.
Don't tell me you are jealous.
Haven't you kissed everywhere else, anyway? "Kent teased, and Alistair glared at his friend with annoyance for even saying such a thing.
"Miss Loraine and I are not in that kind of relationship. We just met the other day," Alistair said coldly, glaring daggers at his embarrassing friend.
Thankfully, they were already out of hearing range.
"Okay, I know. I know. I was just kidding. Let's get going." Kent surrendered and guided them to the car.
As soon as they entered the car, Kent's frivolous style was gone.
His face was replaced with a serious expression, and he immediately checked Alistair's pulse and did a brief check on his injuries.
Alistair silently watched Kent, who was assessing his condition.
Among the four of them, Kent had always been easygoing, so when they saw him applying to become a doctor, they were stunned.
They immediately asked why he suddenly wanted to be a doctor. Especially with his personality.
Becoming a doctor, and most especially serving as one, was difficult. And it didn't suit Kent at all.
They formerly thought Kent would just take a business course to take it easy because their family was also into it.
Yet Kent pursued something entirely different.
At that time, they didn't ask further when they saw his serious expression for the first time, as he stated that he would be a doctor.
Kent looked so determined back then, so they couldn't say anything.
Alistair's recollection was interrupted when Kent was finally done checking his condition.
"Thank goodness they had a doctor treat you immediately.
All these could have been deadly.
Would you have died there if not for Miss Loraine? "Kent said, and Alistair simply shrugged his shoulders.
He could have, indeed. But he could have still escaped as well. Probably barely alive and with worse injuries, and thus, longer recuperation. He could have ended up having to recuperate for years.
More of his men could have suffered as well.
Sigh...
Kent sighed deeply, and too long at that.
"Later, I need to check the state of your injuries again with more equipment as soon as we arrive in the villa," Kent said, then relaxed back in his seat.
"Alright," Alistair replied nonchalantly, and Kent was the one who glared at him this time.
"This son of a gun!
I was very excited when you sent me a message yesterday.
I thought you finally found your conscience and decided to visit this precious friend of yours after so long.
But then, you came bruised and battered!
Didn't you know that as soon as I saw you sitting in a wheelchair, my brain and heart stopped working?!
I know you are truly heartless!
But do you really have to come to me only when you are in deep trouble?! "
Kent spoke overdramatically as if Alistair had died once in front of him and returned.
"Argh! Can you stop being overly dramatic? You should have gone to be an actor, not a doctor," Alistair scolded.
Kent could be such a mother hen when he was a man and unmarried at that. His serious expression earlier was nowhere to be found.
