Chapter 28 - Chapter 27: Unknowingly Caught Their Interest

Knowing his friend's personality, if he didn't say anything, he would be bothered and annoyed by him for a long time until he got what he wanted.

Alistair sighed and started sharing the details of what happened to him.

Thinking about it now, the daughter of Rand Antares was interesting.

"Heh, she didn't even recognize me," Alistair chuckled.

His face was easily recognizable to a lot of people, especially to those of the same status, because he was known as the youngest billionaire in the world.

Alistair was known as a fierce competitor, so a lot of people were wary of him. But likewise, a lot of people also wanted him in their family as a son-in-law, so most wealthy ladies knew him.

Many tried to seduce him to be his wife or get a hold of his secrets and divulge them to their family.

And yet, Miss Loraine didn't even recognize him.

He knew she was incredibly wealthy as well and the only heiress of Rand Antares, but not recognizing him at all was surprising.

Alistair was rather astounded that Miss Loraine had to rely on her assistant just to know his name.

Miss Loraine clearly did not want to help him either.

Alistair could tell from the look on her face back then that she didn't want to get involved in this mess.

However, there was a look of guilt on her face when she saw much more closely how gravely he and his men were injured.

But if her assistant did not write something on her notepad, Miss Loraine may not have helped him at all.

Alistair asked Mr. Gram what it was, and he said based on how the assistant's pen moved, it was:

[Alistair Hilton. A business partner of your father.]

It was only then that Miss Loraine seemed to finally recall him. So it meant she had at least heard about him but didn't care about him at all.

Miss Loraine must have only felt obliged to help after knowing that he was one of the business partners of her father.

But if he wasn't, Alistair and his men could have been more seriously wounded back there.

After all, Alistair noticed a slight annoyance in Miss Loraine's eyes. She didn't want to help but also felt guilty if she didn't.

While she seemed to be deciding, Alistair quickly offered a reward so she would help them.

He had to capitalize on her guilt and quickly offer something so she would feel like it would be beneficial for her to help him.

Thankfully, she seemed to think his offer could be useful and still did her best to help them, even if she formerly hesitated.

She quickly had a doctor contacted too, even when he didn't ask for it. Simply helping him get away from Mt.Kang would have been more than enough.

But she protected him instead until she was sure he was with people he trusted.

This was the first time Alistair was protected to such an extent by someone he barely even knew.

Moreover, Miss Loraine knew that helping blindly could put her in danger. Her father would protect her, of course, but it would be a pain to have to deal with it.

Her intelligence and quick decision-making were evident in her actions and the way she spoke.

But Alistair was still puzzled about something.

Miss Loraine was also a businesswoman, so he thought she would be wary of him a bit or want to partner with him just like the others.

But then, Miss Loraine shut down his proposal for a business deal. And not just once, but repeatedly.

It was the first time Alistair's offer was rejected by someone, now that he was a successful and prominent businessman.

It was puzzling since it was clear on her face that she was not interested in the least bit, even though she said she might be able to learn a lot from him.

Did she think he was actually unreliable because of how they met for the first time? Because he was the one who had to rely on her?

Or did she notice he was trying to pay his debt immediately, and she was reserving it for something else?

Or did she simply think that Alistair and his offer were insignificant?

After all, there were rumors that she was an extremely pampered young lady.

Miss Loraine acted with decorum and sharp judgment in everything that happened since he met her, though.

Alistair knew she was the only heiress of Rand Antares.

And her father was lucky to have Miss Loraine as his daughter.

She perfectly acted as the heiress of the Antares family when she was faced with a situation she did not want to deal with.

Though it wasn't required, she knew it was her duty as the heiress to at least help out her father's business partners in such situations.

Miss Loraine then acted accordingly without having to contact her father.

"Listening to you, Miss Loraine is really good! She's so interesting," Kent grinned widely.

Alistair couldn't agree more.

"Her father protected her so well that not much about her was known in the circle. I didn't expect to encounter her on Mt. Kang."

If they hadn't met yesterday, Alistair wouldn't know how long it would take before their paths crossed.

They might never even meet each other because of how overprotective her father was.

"Alistair, are you sure you're alright? "Kent inquired with a weird smirk on his face.

"What do you mean? "Alistair frowned at his friend.

Sometimes, the way Kent's mind worked was incomprehensible even to him.

"Oh, come one! She rejected you several times today, didn't she? "Kent said, and Alistair gawked at his friend.

"What the f*ck are you talking about?!

It was just my partnership offer that was rejected.

Just my business offer.

No, it wasn't even rejected.

She just needed some time to think about it.

I'm sure she will contact me soon to discuss it," Alistair repeatedly clarified.

"Hahahaha…" Kent laughed so loudly instead.

Alistair recalled his business card that Miss Loraine simply passed to her assistant after glancing at it for a few seconds. He bit his lower lip.

"D*mn it. Shut that mouth of yours already! "

If this man wasn't his friend and his doctor, Alistair would have silenced Kent with a sock in his mouth. He could be so irritating in the weirdest ways.
