Kent could be such a mother hen when he was a man and unmarried at that. His serious expression earlier was nowhere to be found.
Seeing Kent open his mouth again, Alistair knew the former wanted to add more drama, so he immediately threatened him, "If you don't stop with your act, I will stop funding your hospital."
Kent immediately stopped his act at that, not wanting to truly anger his friend. He asked about his situation instead.
"So, can you tell me why your condition is a mess?"
"It's not that much. Rather, it was nothing. I was just caught by the old man because I didn't clean my surroundings properly."
"Geez, I don't understand your grandfather at all.
How can he do all this when you are still his flesh and blood?
He has an excellent heir like you, but he still wants to pass his inheritance on to your foolish uncle.
Not to mention, you are making more money than any of them."
Kent was right about that.
Alistair earns the most among everyone else in the family. He had the most successful business ventures and did well managing them all.
But there's nothing more he could do if his grandfather truly didn't like him, no matter how he tried to prove himself worthy.
If Alistair cannot get his approval, then there is no need.
Why wait for something that wouldn't come, no matter what he did?
Moreover, from what he could remember, his grandfather hadn't liked him since his father died.
Perhaps the old man blamed him for his son's death.
"Well, the old man has always disliked me, so I'm not surprised." Alistair shrugged.
"I think you're not even thinking about his inheritance, are you?" Kent figured.
"Well, I don't plan to take any of his money. I have much of my own. But since he's hellbent on not giving it to me, I might as well take it," Alistair sneered.
Not receiving any of it was fine. But since the old man was intent on killing him just to prevent him from taking it, Alistair was becoming interested in taking it.
Alistair's grandfather wasn't too bad when he was still a child.
Back then, the old man didn't do anything to endanger him and just ignored him.
Knowing that his grandfather didn't like him and that he had a lot of cousins, uncles, and aunts, Alistair already knew he had no chance to get any share of the inheritance.
Alistair had the capability to get it if he wanted to. But he didn't think it was worth the trouble. After all, he could simply make money on his own. And that was exactly what he did.
When he was eighteen years old, he used the money he got from his parents and the investments from his allowances to start a business.
But his grandfather started troubling him when his business was extremely successful.
Not just his grandfather, but even the other family members started troubling him.
At first, it was just small-scale sabotage from business partners, but it had intensified in the past two years.
"What made him contradict you so much that he is even planning your death? "Kent inquired.
"Well, they just wanted to get my money. They finally realized I was making more than they did," Alistair said mockingly.
He knew his grandfather hated him, but when he was getting successful, they started making moves, which made it clear that they were aiming for his money.
They started doing all sorts of things just to get his money.
They even went as far as drugging him and trying to arrange his marriage. They partnered him with all sorts of women they knew they could control. This was probably the most annoying thing they did to him.
Thus, Alistair goes into hiding to avoid some troubles and to clean up his surroundings.
Alistair had been trying to tolerate them as much as he could because they were still the family his father cared about.
But what happened yesterday was the last straw.
He doesn't need to tolerate them anymore since they started making moves to take his life.
It was just his money at first. But now, it was his life.
Alistair won't forgive them anymore.
He used to treat all their actions as just small games he had to play to entertain them. But after he almost died, he knew he had to stop this.
They had gone from irritating to annoying to incredibly vexing.
The family did not even want to admit that they were the ones who were into his money.
They started a rumor that all the family members were fighting for Hilton's inheritance, including him when he never even showed interest in it right from the start.
Well, now that they have gone this far, he would go along with what they started.
Alistair had decided that he would make Hilton's Enterprise as his own.
"Your family is too much!
Looking at your injuries, the situation you encountered yesterday must be very serious..
Thankfully, you escaped and had timely treatment.
If not, you could have been unable to walk your whole life.
Your subordinates are really capable! "
"They are indeed capable, but my escape wasn't successful because of them," Alistair admitted.
"Oh! May I know how you escaped yesterday then?" Kent grinned, already knowing it was because of Miss Loraine.
"Why ask when you already know?" Alistair rolled his eyes.
"Come on. I need to hear it from you after you dragged me here from work. My work is very important, you know," Kent demanded.
"As you know, the one who helped me escape yesterday was the daughter of Rand Antares, Miss Loraine."
"Now we are finally talking. Give out the details!" Kent's eyes gleamed.
It was easy to tell that he was looking forward to something interesting.
Alistair already clarified that they just met yesterday, and yet Kent must be thinking he lied about their meeting.
Knowing his friend's personality, if he didn't say anything, he would be bothered and annoyed by him for a long time until he got what he wanted.
