For the next while Saniel watched me attempt to break the spell on May. I poured water on her, I shook her, I made Saniel roar to the loudest of his capability, but nothing was working. I even rolled her down a large hill and watched as she fell to the bottom. It was kind of funny but I didn't have time to laugh. After repeatedly failing to wake her I then propped her up against a tree and stood in front of her, puzzled. "Alright, May. You have forced me to do something drastic. You will never be as great a cook as your father!"
I then immediately ran to hide behind a tree. After a few seconds of silence, I came out again to see her still fast asleep. I sighed. "Great. How the hell am I-?" I paused after seeing something in the corner of my eye and turned to look beside me. A centaur was in view, and he was using his front legs to raise himself against a tree as he picked an apple from it. The horse part of him was a chestnut brown with a black tail, and his long black hair fell down his lower back with a gloss-like shine. When I saw him one of May's stupid lessons started ringing in my ear. 'Lesson number ninety-one, never be afraid to ask for help.'
Disgust made its way into my expression. 'Ugh. Damn you, May. Like hell if this'll work but I've run out of ideas.' I thought. I then walked over to the centaur and his blue eyes went to me as I stopped next to him, awkwardly. "Hey. Can you, uh, help me with something?" The centaur moved to rest his front hooves on the ground and turned to me.
"Um, sure. Hey, aren't you-?" I raised my hand to stop him and turned around to walk towards May again. "Yeah yeah, Prince Dedrin. Whatever. Just come over here." The centaur hesitantly followed me and I gestured to May as I stopped in front of her. "Do you know how to break sleeping spells? I've been trying for over an hour and nothing has worked."
He stepped beside me and thought for a moment. "Have you tried kissing her?" I gave him a confused look. "Why would I kiss someone that's unconscious?" His face then showed surprise. "Wait a second, maybe that's the genius behind it. When someone won't wake up the last thing you'd think to do is kiss them! That is clever." I rolled my eyes. "Okay, whatever you're talking about over there, you're not helping."
He looked at me a little confused. "What do you mean? Haven't you ever read storybooks about this? The sleeping spell always gets lifted by a kiss." I became horrified at the realization. "What?! There's no way I'm kissing her!" The centaur raised an eyebrow and tilted his head. "Why not?" I had trouble coming up with what to say to that.
"She's just! She's annoying as hell and does things! She's always so sweet and kind to the point of it being nauseating!" He shook his head and crossed his arms. "She sounds like a real bitch." I ignored the sarcasm in his voice and continued. "Not to mention the ball of glitter in her stomach." The centaur raised his hand to stop me jokingly. "Woah now, that's a little harsh." I dropped my shoulders in irritation. "No, seriously. She literally ate glitter."
He looked at her sleeping soundly for a second and shrugged a little as he turned back to me. "...I mean, I could kiss her." My gaze went to his blue eyes that were like the ocean and his chiseled jawline and muscular figure. "There's no way in hell I'm letting you kiss her." The centaur shrugged again. "Sorry, I didn't realize you liked her." I turned my body to face him, baffled. "What?! Didn't you hear what I said before?! I hate her! I push her around all the time!"
He just raised an eyebrow as he remained still. "Isn't that what boys do when they like a girl?" I couldn't believe that I was losing this argument. "What?! I'm a grown man! Why would I act like a child?!" He hesitated. "Have you ever liked anyone before? If you haven't, this would be a reasonable response." I glared at him. "We're getting off subject. I'm going to just get it over with, and you stand there with your mouth shut!"
The centaur looked away and mumbled to himself. "Glad to be of service..." I then hesitantly kneeled to the ground and pulled May onto my lap. I took a deep breath and tried to build myself up to put my face on hers. I waited there for a moment and contemplated catching a frog or something and making her kiss that. 'Knowing her, she would probably love that. She'd no doubt state the irony of a frog kissing the girl instead of vice versa.'
The centaur then spoke impatiently. "Any moment now. Seriously, if you find her that repulsive I'll do it. I think she's beautiful." I turned my head to him, angry. "That's exactly why I'm not letting you kiss her! I have to deal with enough dudes all over her, the last thing I need is one more!" I turned my head to look down again and wondered what everyone else saw that I didn't. 'If they knew her like I did, they'd all understand what an annoying little brat she is.'
I then couldn't help looking closer at her face. I didn't realize how long her eyelashes were, or that her face was full of color. Her lips looked soft and plump, and her skin sparkled with the light of the sun. Her long ear folded a little as her head rested against my arm, and her hair appeared as soft as silk. The outline of her face was gentle and had no sharp features, and as I looked at her light pink lips again I felt my face redden. 'What the hell? What is happening to me? I've never blushed before in my life! Ugh! Snap out of it! It's May, remember?! Just kiss her and get it out of the way!' I thought.
I inhaled sharply and forced myself to lean over and kiss her lips. I then immediately shot back up and wiped my mouth. "I better not have done that for nothing!!" I yelled in disgust. In the next split second, I realized how soft her lips were. They fit perfectly with mine like a puzzle piece, and it was like I had kissed a cloud. This thought freaked me out, but I was pulled back into the moment when May shifted in my arms and slowly opened her eyes.
The first thing she saw was the centaur standing next to me and her voice was groggy as she spoke. "Hey, it's Sagittarius! I'm a Gemini myself!" I raised an eyebrow at her odd choice of words. "May?" She then jumped out of my arms once she noticed me and hid behind the centaur. "Ahh! Scorpio!" I stood up with confusion as I turned to them. 'How did she know my sign?'
