Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Small

I turned to her with surprise but she didn't notice as she kept her eyes on the glowing plant in her hands. "Alright, let's go!" She started to walk back to the door and waved to the unicorns as I followed behind her. "Bye, beauties!" They raised their heads as she said goodbye, and they were soon out of sight. Thankfully, the door opened to our return without my needing to express love to May again.

Once the door fully opened, we were greeted by Theodius standing on the other side with his hands in the air. "Congratulations! You passed the sixth test!" He put his hands down and my surprise returned. Receiving the confirmation that May was right about the plant struck me harder, and I was silent as we approached him. The door closed behind us slowly, and May gave the plant to Theodius after she got close enough to him. He fiddled with it in his hand after he took it from her and smiled. "Thank you. I am surprised you were able to figure this one out. Especially with how determined Dedrin was to do it his way."

May crossed her arms as she looked at me. "I still can't believe you were willing to kill a unicorn." I felt attacked all of a sudden but I couldn't use my sword to defend my wrong. Theodius then smirked and lifted May's chin with his fingers. "Looks like there's a brain behind those emerald eyes. How sexy." May pulled away from his hand in embarrassment. "Um!"

He then put his hands on his hips and faced both of us. "That was fast! Time to cast the second spell already." I quickly moved in front of May before he raised his hand to cast it. "Wait! I am not breaking two spells in one day! You get one test and one spell per day and that's it!" Theodius's smile dropped. "I thought you wanted to get this over with. The spells are easy to break, and this one won't involve kissing or CherryMay being immobilized. There's still plenty of daylight left, are you sure?"

I hated how right he was. "...Fine. It better be as easy as you said it is." Theodius's excitement returned as fast as it left. "Great! Now let's leave the garden in peace and find a good place to start." He turned away and started to walk into the forest. After a moment I sighed and followed him with May next to me.

By now it was early afternoon, and the sky was clear blue as the sun left its highest point. We walked back to where Saniel was resting and Theodius turned to us again. "Alright. Ready, my darling?" May shrugged uncomfortably. "I guess..." He then raised his hand towards her and a beam of blue magic surrounded her. In the next moment, she disappeared as the light did.

I tilted my head in confusion as I looked at the empty space next to me where May used to be standing. "What did you do to her?" Theodius chuckled before answering me. "Look down." I did as he said and froze to see May five inches tall climbing on top of her satchel; which didn't shrink like she did on the ground.

She held herself up by her arms as she hung over it and looked up at me. "Woah! Everything's so big!" Her voice was higher and I smiled a little as I reached down to pick her up. "Ah!" I held her in my fist as I returned to standing upright and laughed a little. "Try and tell me you're a fairy and not a pixie now." She crossed her arms and lifted her chin away from me. "I still have butterfly wings, silly."

I raised an eyebrow. "You're also naked by the way." She then looked down and screamed to see that I was right. I gestured to the pile of clothes on the ground next to her satchel and she attempted to cover herself with her arms as she blushed. Theodius's expression quickly changed to surprise as he heard what I said. "Wait, really?!" I then covered May with my fingers and held her away from Theodius as he reached over me frantically. "Let me see! Let me see! Let me see!"

I managed to push him away by his face and he fell to the ground. "That's not fair, Dedrin! I wanna see!" I shook my head as I looked at him in disgust. "How did you not know that your spell doesn't affect clothes?" Theodius stood up quickly and his smile returned. "Oh yeah. I'm trying out some of the spells that I learned from that witch's spell book you got for me. It's most of the reason why I wanted to add spells to the quest."

I looked away from him with an annoyed tone. "Figures." Theodius put his hands on his hips again and turned to walk away. "You won this round. Good luck breaking the spell you two." He disappeared into the blue fire again like he normally did, and we were left with another assignment. May attempted to speak to me through her blush as I brought her down to my eye level again. "Um, D-Dedrin? Can you find me some roses, please? It's getting drafty."

I looked around and saw a bushel of red flowers in the distance and started to walk toward them. "So, do you have any idea how to break a shrinking spell?" May hesitated for a moment. "I think so." I looked down at her with surprise. "Really?" She nodded. "I'm pretty sure all I have to do is eat a mango nut that is found growing on the sides of cliffs." I looked ahead of us again with exasperation. "Given my history with cliffs, this doesn't seem like an in and out in five minutes situation."

I approached the rose bush and picked one where the stem met the bud. I opened my palm so May could sit up as I gave her the rose. "Thank you!" She took the flower from me and slipped her feet into the bottom of the rose and pulled it up over her chest like a poofy dress. She smiled with relief as she moved to kneel in my palm. "So much better!"

I couldn't stop myself from thinking about how cute she was at this size and had trouble keeping my eyes off her. "So, we better be looking for some cliffs now." I started to walk back to Saniel and forced myself to look away. I picked up her satchel as I walked by the pile of May's belongings, and pulled the strap over my shoulder as I continued to walk. Saniel was awake and waiting for us as we approached him. Nervousness was in May's voice as she decided to speak to me. "Hold onto me tight. If I blew away I doubt I'd be able to find you again with how small I am."

I mumbled to myself as I mounted Saniel. "If only." I held onto Saniel's back with my free hand and held May in my fist tighter as I turned to look up at Saniel. "We're looking for cliffs. Try and find some, will you?"
