Chapter 57 - A Rat Accused

The three exited out of the inn onto the streets of Nomed, only to find no one there as well. Actually, that wasn't quite true, there was a circle of guards surrounding them. The lead guard stood a little away from the circle, and it was the rodent-like man, SGT. Tnedor. He furiously yelled out, "T-There they are! Get th-th-them!!!"

… again?

The guards prepared their weapons, and pointed them all at the party. They all had worried and fearful expressions, but they still pointed their weapons at the party. "Hold on everyone," Henry said, frowning, "What's this all about?"

"Y-Y-You, are being taken i-in, as the main suspect for murder!" SGT. Tnedor shouted at them.

Henry looked at him with confusion, "Murder? Sorry, you got the wrong misfits. You sure this isn't you just being salty?"

A slight chuckle could be heard from amongst the guards and the Void Horse party. SGT. Tnedor's face went as red as can be, a small vein appearing on his head, "S-SHUT UP!! Soldiers, get them!!!" At his call, the guards' laughter stopped, and they marched at the party. Each heavy step they took, they kept up their guard when facing the party. They slowly stomped their way towards the party, and then a series of sharp weapons shot towards the party's throat.

Eodum clicked its tongue, and had its hand rise. Just like before, it was sure it could get out of this, but this time, it might be a little harder. The guards continued pointing their weapons at the party while others got a pair of cuffs. The party put their hands behind their backs, and the guards placed the cuffs on their wrists. With a click of the restraints, the party were pushed along the streets, and into the dungeon instead of the Department of Justice.

The group walked down the steep, stone stairs of the dungeon. Henry and Sheila were thrown in their old cells, just apart from each other. Eodum was tossed in its strange containment unit. The restraints were reattached to Eodum, and it was left suspended in the air. Two guards were positioned inside the room to watch Eodum. The heavy door clicked and churned as they locked it from the outside.

Eodum waited there silently, until the door began to unlock. Three figure walked inside,

Delacs, Tnedor, and a guard holding a black bag. Two seats were pulled out and placed in front of the only window of the containment unit. One was centered in front of the window while the other sat slightly to the left. The one in the center was taken by Delacs and the other was taken by Tnedor; the guard with the bag stood to Delacs's right. Delacs got himself a smoke before saying, "Alright, let's get this settled. Eodum, you have been accused of second-degree murder. You will be held here for the time being, and your court case will take place tomorrow morning."

Eodum sighed and responded, "Alright. Though, you do know I didn't do it, right?"

"SGT. Tnedor found some evidence in your room's dresser." As Delacs said that, the guard holding the bag spilled its contents on a counter in between Eodum and Delacs. Bloodied bones and the shredded remnants of armor lay on the counter. Rat-like chewing can be seen as indentations on the bones. Eodum's face frowned, it hadn't remembered putting a corpse there. If a corpse was anywhere, it would be in either Eodum's stomach, or the void. Of course, Eodum couldn't say either, so it just had to keep silent.

A sneer ran across Tnedor's face, "Hmph! N-Nothing to say, criminal?" A smug look ran across Tnedor's face as he shivered in fear. Eodum's eyes snapped to him, emotionless. He fell out of his chair and looked over from behind his chair. The white pupils of Eodum's eyes met Tnedor's small black pupils, and he nearly fainted from fear. He squeaked out, "Y-Y-Y-You rat bastard! You'll be given the death sentence for sure!!"

Eodum ignored the shouting of Tnedor, and looked back at Delacs, "You know this is all his pettiness, right?"

"Sorry, but we'll only find that out in court." Delacs answered with a cold face, however, he let off the slightest nod he could without it normally being noticeable. He knew, he just couldn't say it at the moment. Eodum also let off a very slight nod and played along, "Thought you would've at least been on our side." The two had a moment of faking glaring at each other.

Tnedor snickered to himself as he watched the two, thinking he had pitted them against each other. The evidence was packed up, and the three left the room, leaving only Eodum and the two guards. A day flier by in the blink of an eye. They didn't feed Eodum, they needed to keep him weak. They took the rat out of its containment, and placed him in a glass ball lined with steel. They had Eodum run in the ball to move it, this was the safest thing they could think of.

The guards went and retrieved Henry and Sheila, and the three were taken up the stairs where Eodum had to be picked up. The Void Horse party and the guards travelled to the courtroom, where after a short, one-sided, obviously rigged trial, the judge gave them the guilty verdict and they were to be put to death after five days. Of fucking course it ended up this way. Chances are, Tnedor paid off just about everyone in the court.

The three were taken to a newly renovated containment unit, now complete with two extra cells for Henry and Sheila. The three were all imprisoned there, and this time were fed awful food. Henry and Sheila's meals slipped through the bars, and Eodum's came from an interesting device. A small part of the ceiling clicked, and was lowered down as a bucket connected to a rope. It was settled in front of Eodum, so it could eat its awful sludge.

The three finished their meals, and the guard shift had begun. The two original guards were replaced by two brand new guards which seemed much stronger. Then to no one's surprise, Delacs walked into the room, sat down, and said, "Alright, let's plan an escape." A smile spread across the faces of everyone in the room. Time for a prison break!
