Chapter 35 - A Rat and an Empty City

The party walked out into the bustling street, and they were met with the screams of shocked civilians. Ah right, they were all monsters. Fuck! The trio simply stands there, as everyone who's seen them runs away. To them, it looked like a sudden invasion of monsters. Sheila says, "Wait! Everyone come back, we will not harm you!" However it was too late, as everyone had already evacuated the area.

From the civilians' perspective there was a giant rat, an undead knight, and a flaming man. Of course they would be scared and run away, anyone would. At this Henry could only say, "Well, shit."

"What are we going to do now?" Sheila asked.

"Well, we can either leave the city or attempt to come into contact with humans." Henry replied

Eodum voted, "Let's leave the city."

Sheila countered, "No, no, we should attempt to come into contact with the people. Hopefully, we can find my team; I might be able to get some allies. Since Eodum and myself have now voted, the last vote goes to Henry." Sheila and Eodum look towards Henry expectantly.

"… Let's go find some humans." Henry said. With that the team set off to look for humans. They had Sheila go in front, Henry in the middle, and Eodum in the back. At a first glance, Sheila's ghoulish form was hidden from view by her armor. This would make establishing relations easier, letting the person ease into knowing Sheila's true identity. Then the trio came upon a group of humans.

The humans were a mismatched bunch. One was a muscular man with heavy armor, a great sword, and a shield. Another was a blonde woman in a priest's robes holding a staff. There was a thin woman in light armor with two daggers sheathed on her belt. The last was a skinny man in purple robes, he too held a staff. Henry and Sheila immediately recognized these people as adventures.

"Hello!" Sheila called while putting her head at an angle that would hide her face. Eodum and Henry hid behind a building, watching the scene unfold.

The muscular man looked over, waved, and said, "Oh, hello there! Aren't you one of the paladins of Gnos?"

"Yes! My name is Sheila Alieh, captain of the 13th division of paladins under the name of Gnos! May I ask for your names?" Sheila said as she approached.

The man quickly replied, "Oh yes, my name is Mys Sardna, the warrior leader of our party. That over there is our cleric, Helse Egnok. This is Dief Duog, the rogue. And that young lad is the mage, Kniga Ayigam. We are the adventurer party, Alamat Ginto! It's a pleasure to meet you!" Mys then put his hand out.

"Pleasure to meet you as well!" Sheila responded. She then reached her hand for a handshake, forgetting of her new ghoul form. The two hands met and had a firm shake, but that was when Mys looked up at Sheila's face. She was smiling, but it was disturbing as her face was rotting. His face turned in disgust as he jumped back, reaching for his great sword.

Mys quickly announced, "What the fuck!? You're an undead! How!? We were just conversing!? Who the hell is your master!?" The rest of his party were visibly confused by their leader's sudden actions and words, until they looked and saw her face. Their faces also twisted in disgust, and quickly readied themselves. Helse was the most disturbed as she was a priest under Gnos as well.

Helse quickly struck the ground with her staff and said, "[Divine Area]!" At her words, a warm light formed in a circle around her, and buffed the entire party. Sheila was just close enough to be in the circle. Expectantly the party watched Sheila, thinking that she would begin to smoke up from the holy power, but nothing happened.

"I told you, I am Sheila Alieh, captain of the 13th division of paladins under the name of Gnos. Due to some circumstances, I have been transformed into an undead. While I understand your reaction, I would like to make it a point that A, I still have my humanity, and B, I was never brought back to life. I simply skipped the dead part, and went straight to this form. I am not against the will of Gnos, as I was never resurrected. This is also a reason why I am not weak to [Holy Magic]," Sheila scolded them, "I am also not alone, I do have two other companions. Eodum, Henry, come out!"

At her words, Eodum and Henry stepped out from behind the building. They began to walk/float towards Sheila.

"Hello, I am Henry Reklaw. I'm a chef in the Dozing Grizzly Inn. It is a pleasure to meet you." Henry says as he bows politely.

Eodum then followed up, "Hi there, I'm Eodum!"

Alamat Ginto we're visibly disturbed, confused, and suspicious. All these monsters had come from nowhere, and two of them were saying they had jobs in this city. Like hell, though they couldn't be sure. The case of a talking monster was rare, and unheard of for the species in front of him. Then again, he didn't really know their species. With that in mind, Mys could only ask one thing, "What're your species?"

"Void rat."

"Minor fire spirit."

"Ghoul"

… LIKE HELL! Mys responded with, "First off, what the actual fuck is a void rat!? Second, minor fire spirit my ass. No minor fire spirit is the size of a human! Third, ghouls don't have intelligence! They don't have the mental capability to communicate with humans!"

"… Speciesist." The party said in unison. Sheila followed up by explaining the trio's reasoning by the sudden call out, "First off, the void rat part is understandable, new species. Second, who are you to say minor fire spirits can't be human-sized? Don't forget, Henry and I were both originally human, we kept our original size. On that note to finish my third point, We retained our intelligence and knowledge from when we were human."

Mys was flabbergasted. He couldn't find a good counter to that; their reasoning made sense. Helse also couldn't find any malice from them. They didn't hold a monster's usual hatred for everything. The entirety of Alamat Ginto were all annoyed that they couldn't understand these monsters, nor find anything wrong with them. And as humans tend to do when they find something they don't understand, Alamat Ginto lashed out.

"ATTACK!!!" Mys yelled loudly. At those words the entire party readied for a fight. Eodum's party wouldn't sit idly either, as they prepped as well. Then both groups heard something. Yelling, running, and war cries. They both looked to the left and saw a rapidly approaching mob. This mob was composed of civilians, adventurers, paladins, guards, and knights. It appeared all of the city of Seelf wanted the trio dead.

"… RETREAT!!!" Sheila yelled loudly. At those words the trio prepped for running and fled at incredible speeds.

"… GET THOSE FUCKING MONSTERS!!!" All the aggressors yelled at once, and they followed through by chasing after the trio.
