… Neat! The rat looked and saw it had maxed out [Tail Whip], now it was time to evolve it. It looked at the list of options:

[Tail Reinforcement]

[Increases the endurance and harness of the tail.]

[Tail Speed Reinforcement]

[Increases the speed at which the user can lash out with their tail.]

[Tail Length Adjustment]

[Increases/decreases the length of the user's tail.]

[Tail Weight Adjustment]

[Increases/decreases the weight of the user's tail.]

[Tail Elemental Synergy]

[Increases the synergy between 1 element and the user's tail.]

… Wow. There were a lot of choices, and Eodum could see the benefits of all of them. Of course it would be nice to have a tough tail or have its tail move faster, but being able to adjust the qualities of its tail was good too. Then there was that odd but equally good upgrade, [Tail Elemental Synergy]. This option seemed very specific to users who implemented elements into their tails, like forming shadows around it. In that case, there was only one path to choose.

[Tail Whip has evolved into Tail Elemental Synergy!]

[Your tail has found itself resonating with shadows!]

Perfect! Eodum then looked at its Ap. First it spent 6 Ap in luck. Why? Because why not. Now that it had done that, Eodum decided that it was best to put it equally between agility and strength. Eodum looked at its Sp, 3, just enough. There was a skill that Eodum thought would be useful.

[Dagger Mastery]

[Increases proficiency when using daggers and other knife-like weapons.]

[Cost: 3 Sp]

Bought! This new skill was great for its tail blade. As soon as the skill was bought, Eodum could feel information about how to best use a dagger. Eodum was quite happy with this purchase, and it then finished the process.

[Finalizing Process]

Eodum then looked over at Henry and Sheila. In its time looking at its status, it failed to see its new friends collapsed next to it. It started to freak out a bit, what happened, was this an attack, would Eodum fall over next? Eodum quickly used [Body Scan] on them to see how they were doing. As Eodum had spent a decent amount of time with these two, it could see more detailed information about them. It was then that it saw their bodies were being ripped apart, and then put back together. Eodum immediately knew what was happening, evolution.

These two were tier-one monsters, their level cap should've been 5. When they leveled up they must've initiated the evolution. Of course they got their choice in the path, but they didn't realize finalizing their statuses would make them pass out. Eodum then remembered what happened after its evolution, hunger. The body needs an impressive amount of energy to redesign itself. Eodum decided that to help, it would hunt and gather food for them. Wait, would they need food?

The body was redesigning itself, but wisps and skeletons don't need to eat… where the fuck did they even get energy from. Eodum thought about this and came to a realization. Wisps and skeletons were both extra magical beings. Skeletons have a natural affinity with magic because they need to move their bodies with it. Wisps also have an affinity with magic, as they are beings composed of energy, magic, and spiritual power.

Eodum decided to turn on its [Magical Detection]. A whirlpool of the mysterious energy was being sucked from the surroundings. This sudden influx of information had bashed against Eodum's mind. With a high mental fortitude or Mnt it could resist it, however, Eodum never put a point into it. Therefore, the rat began to hear notices in its head.

[You have suffered mental damage -5 Hp]

After the fifth message, Eodum quickly turned off its [Magic Detection]. Turns out being overloaded with information could severely hurt someone; Eodum had to find this out the hard way. Well, Eodum's curiosity was settled, but at the cost of Eodum's mental health. Eodum felt itself growing tired, and it quickly passed out.

———

Eodum began to stir, and it woke up. It looked around. Luckily, no other monster had found the trio passed out. Eodum quickly went and looked around, just double checking. It couldn't turn on its [Magic Detection] because of its friends evolving. For now, it could only use its senses. That was when Eodum heard clanking coming from its left. It turned and saw an armored skeleton coming towards it.

The skeleton wore medium armor, with some heavy armor mixed in there. This was a skeleton warrior, a tier-two monster. It looked like the whirlpool of magic had attracted the skeleton. Eodum quickly prepared itself for battle. Its tail became bladed and because of the increased synergy with shadows, the tail felt much stronger. Eodum was ready to pounce, and Eodum quickly tried out some new magic.

Eodum used its new support spells [Magic Enhance] and [Mana Regeneration Enhance]. It then used [Strength Enhance], [Speed Enhance], [Stealth Enhance], and [Weight Reduction]. After Eodum buffed itself, it used the 2nd level spell [Gravity Down] in the area between Eodum and the skeleton. Eodum then used [Focused Muscle Strengthening] and then [Presence Erase], using the additional ability of [Presence Erase] to divert the skeleton's attention.

The skeleton suddenly felt it hard to focus on that area. By the time the skeleton could refocus there, Eodum had already moved out of sight. Eodum then used [Body Scan], and saw the neck and head were the weak points of a skeleton. In addition, the skeleton's left arm had a strange lack of calcium, perfect. The rat prepared itself for a quick fight, and pounced.

Eodum first used [Distant Scratch] to take out the weak arm of the skeleton. The skeleton couldn't even react before the arm holding its buckler was chopped off. The rat then pounced in the [Gravity Down] area, and used [Gravity Up] on top of the skeleton. The skeleton found it hard to stand all of a sudden, and Eodum flew threw at the skeleton with high force.

The skeleton attempted to swing at the rat, but couldn't get its arm to build up that force. Eodum stabbed at the skeleton's right shoulder with its tail blade; Eodum then swung itself behind the skeleton with ease. Eodum then opened its ugly maw, and put its mouth around the slightly armored neck of the skeleton. Eodum then activated [Crush], and it collapsed its jaws on the skeleton's neck. The head of the skeleton had nothing attaching it to the body, and the skull hit the ground with a thud.

Eodum hopped off the skeleton, and it watched the beheaded body hit the ground. Eodum immediately realized it had grown quite a bit since it was first born. Eodum was praising itself when it heard a stirring from behind it. It looked over and saw that its new companions had begun to come to.
