She asked, and Delarcy slowly turned around to look at her with her brow arched in a questioning manner.
"Your best friend?"
"Yes...." Diana nodded with a sheepish smile on her face, and Delarcy slightly shook her head at her.
"Sorry, no can do." She disagreed.
"Please, I beg of you. I can't leave her alone. She's in danger, and if I leave, there is no doubt that my father will hurt her. He's desperately trying to find me, please. I won't be able to forgive myself if anything happens to her."
She pleaded, and although unwilling to agree, Delarcy pinched between her brows and eventually agreed.
"Fine! Be here with her tomorrow, understand?"
"Yes, thank you very much." A wide smile emerged on Diana's face, and together with Delarcy, she walked out of the room and proceeded to return to Lisa's apartment.
____________
Delarcy arrived before a huge door and stopped.
She took a long deep breath and, with all the courage in her, she turned the door handle and stepped inside.
She looked ahead of her and bowed deeply to a lady seated behind a black net curtain with her face covered in raven net.
"My Lady." She smiled and straightened up when the woman nodded at her.
"Come closer." The serene voice of the woman sounded, and Delarcy walked nigher to her.
Her hands trembled, knowing exactly why Her Lady had summoned her.
"You do know why you are here, no?" The woman asked, and she nodded her head.
"Yes, My Lady."
"Delarcy, You're my seventeenth breaker, and I do cherish you quite a lot. But you do understand that what I hate most is failure. You have failed me over and over again, and it makes me quite angry."
"A complaint has been frequently coming from Breaker One and Breaker Two. They believe that what I'm doing is partial because even before I found you, they knew that whoever fails even a single mission will be eliminated instantly."
"But you, even though you have failed me more than three times, I still find myself unable to punish you. However, this time around, it won't be possible. I will have to apologize personally to you in advance, because if you fail this time around, you will be eliminated and I will not be able to protect you. Do you understand?"
She explained, and Delarcy slowly nodded her head.
"Yes, my lady. I understand."
"Good. I heard the new assignment is Mr. Vicenzo. Quite unfortunate, I must say, but regardless, I wish you luck with your new breaker, and hopefully she will succeed. Your life is currently in her hands."
The woman smiled behind the net covering her face, and Delarcy slightly nodded. "I will keep that in mind."
She bowed in deep respect and straightened up, then turned around to leave, but a sentence from the woman had her halt in her steps.
"Delarcy, you mean a lot to me. Always rember this, no matter what happens, okay." The woman said this in a pessimistic tone, and Delarcy slowly nodded her head.
She took a long deep breath and, with tiny drops of tears threatening to fall from her eyes, she walked out of the room and shut the door behind her.
She hurried towards a room that seemed to belong to her, and the instant she stepped inside, she shut the door behind her and broke down into tears.
She buried her face in her palms and sobbed endlessly, as though the unknown deep guilt she was feeling within her was burning her heart.
"I am sorry." She whispered and grabbed a small photo from the pocket of her suit.
She gazed at the little girl in the photo and used her finger to wipe off the drop of tears at the edge of her eyes.
"Forgive me if I don't return. Always remember, I love you very much."
She chuckled cynically and rested her head on the door while holding the photo to her heart.
__________
Diana arrived back at the apartment and left three light knocks on the door.
A few seconds passed, and Lisa, who seemed to be busy, opened the door for her.
She walked inside and immediately plopped down on the sofa, then threw her head back in tiredness.
"How did it go?" Lisa took a seat opposite her and asked.
"Pretty well. She explained everything to me and, well, it turned out that my job is to... break men's hearts. Cheating men, specifically."
She replied, and Lisa's face instantly puckered.
"Breaking what? What do you mean by breaking a man's heart? I am seriously confused now!"
Utterly shocked and perplexed, Lisa arched her brows at her in a questioning manner.
"Lisa, calm down. I will explain everything to you, alright." She fluttered her lashes, and Lisa folded her arms.
"Okay, I am waiting."
"Well, when I say breaking men's hearts, I mean cheating men, like Sam. And they don't just wake up and decide to do that. The victims assign them to do so and pay a huge amount of money."
She explained, and Lisa arched her brows at her.
"So when they talked about paying you a huge amount of money, this was what they meant?"
She asked, and Diana nodded her head. "Yeah."
"I see. So you, um... agreed to it?" She pried further, and Diana nodded her head in response.
"Diana, you do understand that this is quite-"
"Lisa, I know what you're going to say, but like I told you before, there is absolutely nothing worse than my current life and situation right now. I am a girl running away from my own... father."
She smiled pessimistically, and instantly realizing that she must have triggered something in Diana which she shouldn't have, Lisa quickly pulled her into a hug and embraced her tightly.
"I am so sorry. I really didn't mean to." She apologized, and Diana chuckled softly.
It's fine. Guess what, by the way."
"What?"
"Well, my first assignment came in today and my payment is going to be huge." She wiggled her brows at Lisa, and Lisa's lips curled up into a smile.
"Who is it?" She asked, and Diana smirked.
"Mr. Vicenzo, I believe he is a huge celebrity because of his-"
"Wait! Did you just say…Mr. Vicenzo?"
Lisa, who looked really shocked, asked, and Diana slowly nodded.
"Yeah, Is everything ok-"
"Diana, don't tell me that you…don't know who Mr. Vicenzo is."
