BAIN POV
As they kept repeating the same question, she refused to explain only telling them she was a runaway they continued to shock her with a high voltage taser.
Her screams were piercing my ears, even though I did not want to accept what the goddess has planned I could not deny it either and it was getting harder to keep Blaze at bay. "Alpha!" I turned and saw my Delta Taylor rushing toward me. "She shouldn't be getting interrogated." "What have you found?" "She is telling the truth she is a runaway," he handed me papers, "Also you should know she defended myself and the head warrior." I raised my brow in confusion. "We did not kill the other rogue, she did. He went to attack us, and she killed him and then submitted to us. I know how you feel about rogues and what they have done to our pack and you in the past but maybe you should hear her story."
Blaze was screaming that he agreed in my head and wanted me to stop this and save her. In that instant, I thought of my mother and what she would want me to do and busted in the door. I saw her hanging there breathing was frantic, and her heartbeat was rapid, Blaze took control and began stalking toward our mate.
The others backed off seeing this encounter knowing it from other wolves and now knowing the rogue they just electric shocked is their Alphas mate and did not want to tempt Blaze any further and bowed in submission.
As we reached her, she looked into my eyes and faintly said "MATE," and then passed out I ripped the chain off the bar and picked her up bridal style. Her arms swinging lifeless from my walking and her head draped back over my arm had me feeling so much guilt for putting her through this. I know getting over the past will be hard, but I can at least try for Blaze.
I rushed her to the pack hospital as fast as could without causing any more damage to my unconscious mate, trying to figure out how to go about this whole thing and explaining my past and figuring out hers. This definitely was going to be my biggest challenge yet.
The doctor stated she was underweight and dehydrated, our interrogation techniques threw her body into overtime trying to heal itself. "Alpha, she is strong. Any normal wolf would be dead by now, but she and her wolf are among the strongest we have seen." "Thank you, Doctor, how long before she wakes?" "She could wake any minute." I nodded at the doctor as he then turned and left the room.
I definitely did not want to be here when she woke, I would be the last person she would want to see. Blaze needed a run anyways to blow off some steam.
We ran for what felt like an hour, and decided to go check on our mate, I had no idea how this would go but I needed to try.
As I began down the hospital hall I saw two young children, Janie and Alice, daughters of one of the nurses, standing outside her door. As I got closer, I heard an amazing voice singing. "As the mountains climb, and the river flows, through the toughest of times never lose hope. I will always be here with you by your side, whenever you need me just look to the sky. I love you my darling so much and more, I will see you again beneath the moonlight glow."
Her voice was gorgeous and that song I have heard or read it somewhere before. The little ladies spotted me and giggled and ran to their mother at the desk. I smiled at her to show there was no harm done and proceed to knock on the door. No answer, I slowly opened the door the rest of the way to see her in the chair staring out the window. She turned to look at me nothing, she just sat there.
'Blaze a little help here,' 'I am trying to talk to her wolf but the same result.' I don't blame her after what we allowed, what we have done. "I do not know your name, but I am sorry, for everything that has happened." When I thought there would be no answer, she turned looked me straight in the eye, and shouted, "You never took the chance to know me. You judged me based on being a rogue and had me tortured, you could have stopped it at any minute, yet you continued to allow it. Some of us rogues were not banished, criminals to the pack, or a threat. Some of us are just rogue because it was the best option." She turned in her chair and stared back at the window.
I did not blame her for yelling, "I would have yelled at me too, actually I would have hit me and done everything I could to hurt me. I am sorry, but that is why you were tortured I had to make sure as the pack leader no one was in danger, there is a past where you do not know but we cannot let what happened then happen again. I am sorry."
I turned to walk out when I heard her whisper, "My name is River Rose," "My name is Bain, the doctor will be in to speak with you. Maybe later when I come back to check on you, we can talk then about some things." She nodded in agreement, and I then left her room; I knew she needed time and needed to think as did I. I hope one day she could forgive me. The past was going to be hard to let go of, but I would try at least. I just did not know of her past either.
