On the outside, Alexander and Zachariah were ordinary youths. Both achieved decent scores while in school, both were varsity athletes, and both fit into society with ease. But on the inside Alexander and Zachariah absolutely detested how weak the human race seemed. How everyone around them was bogged down by laziness and empathy. If you wanted something in life you had to tirelessly work to take what you wanted.
As high school was coming to a painstakingly slow end the two youths, who had little contact with one another until now, were paired together in the last golf tournament of the year. As the tournament progressed they became increasingly frustrated with the competing schools athletes. They were planning so slow one would have thought that the event was televised and the winner got the chance to suck Wiger Toods off. Realizing Zachariah was just as done with this tournament as he was, Alexander casually retrieves two cigars from his bag and offers the contraband to his brother in misery. Seeing the offered cigars Zachariah cracks a shit eating grin and proceeds to pull little bottles of liquor out and trade a couple for the cigar.
By the time the tournament is coming to an end both Alexander and Zachariah are drunk enough that their repressed personalities are starting to show and have started to heckle the other competitors. "Get in the hole!" Yell's Zachariah at the top of his lungs, openly mocking the athlete for acting like a professional who's being supported by his loving fans on the tour. "Nice putt you big dumb bitch!" Adds Alexander as the putt flys past the hole.
As they continue to pester the other team the two start to see themselves in one another. Not the surface level face they normally present the world, but the deeper one, the one that's been hidden for their entire lives. The one that would be described as functional psychopathy by medical professionals. As this is the first time either of them have felt seen, the covenant of brotherhood begins to grow within them.
As Alexander and Zachariah finish high school and transition to university their brotherhood has transcended normal friendships by dozens of times. To the point of helping "disappear" each other's future spouse if they are caught being unfaithful and promising to end the other if they are ever in an accident and paralyzed or brain dead. As the only thing missing from their covenant was the spilling of blood, the two decide to tattoo the Faroese word bróðir (a brother) from Old Norse, upon their shoulders.
