Mason woke up the next day feeling very refreshed. The past week was very busy for him as he had been trying to get stronger. The day of rest was truly needed for him.
As explained in the rules of Remi, she was using the bathroom right now to shower.
She had told Mason to not go anywhere, apparently she wanted to do something else today. She had not told him what though.
After 20 minutes or so, the blonde girl finally came out of the bathroom.
"It's your turn, please don't take too long. Waiting isn't something I enjoy doing." Remi said.
"Yes ma'am!" Mason said jokingly.
After a while, when they were both done preparing. Mason finally gathered his courage.
"Where are we going?" he asked.
"Didn't I tell you, we're going monster hunting today."
"No, I'm pretty sure you didn't tell me. That's okay though, I was hoping to surpass you in level anyways." he said with a smile.
'You're 8 levels lower, how could you even scratch my ankle?' Remi just dismissed Mason's bold remark.
They took a cab towards one of the lower-level dungeons in Nightfall City. Mason had already asked Remi and she said the highest level monster in there was level 20.
She also said that they weren't going that deep into the dungeon though. Which Mason wanted to do anyways since he was confident he could kill even a level 20.
As they arrived, they saw a party of 4 men in tears. Their friend was laying next them, decapitated.
"Fuck, that's gross. Do people die in here? Even though it's just a low-level dungeon?" Mason asked Remi.
"Of course they do, those people seem to be around level 5. They come here because the dungeon is an easy way to make money. Beast corpses sell for quite a bit, you know?"
'Damn, you're telling me that I could've made money from all those beasts I killed? I wish I knew earlier.' Mason cursed his small amount of knowledge.
Finally, they were first in line to enter. It cost 20 gold to enter, which Mason got a heart-attack from. Luckily there was a princess next to him who had plenty of money.
As they started walking through the dungeon, Mason heard loud footsteps throughout the whole dungeon. The echo in here was no joke.
'System, identify these beasts for me.'
[There are multiple species, Host.]
[Goblin, level 1-8]
[Hob-goblin, level 9-14]
[Orc, level 14-20]
"Remi, do you know what goblins' strengths and weaknesses are?" Mason asked her
He could have asked the System, but he decided to strike a conversation while he had the chance.
"Yes of course. They are nimble and small, making them hard to hit. They also attack in groups so if you aren't focused you'll die without knowing." She answered
"As for the weaknesses. They have frail bodies, so they die quicker than other beasts."
"Alright, should be easy enough then."
They walked through the dungeon as they killed goblin after goblin. These goblins at the start could barely survive a single Ice Bullet. Which was a skill mason could spam over and over again.
"Mason, you're pretty strong. What level monster did you kill during the academy try-outs? It's easier if I know how strong you are." Remi told Mason, not knowing that she would get shocked.
'Do I tell her? She probably wouldn't believe me either way so why not.'
"If I remember correctly, it was a level 17 Stone Golem." Mason answered.
"You think you can fool me? A level 10 wouldn't be able to kill a level 17 in a million years. And it was a Stone Golem? The Golem beasts are the strongest under level 20! What did you really kill?" Remi said, she was sure Mason was lying.
"I just told you what I killed, anyways we should stay focused on the fights." He tried to change the subject.
After another 2 hours of hunting goblins, they finally arrived at the part where the stronger beasts would spawn. Every single beast here was over level 10.
"Stay concentrated now. Don't blame me if you die either, I invited you but I didn't force you to come!" Remi said
'Wait, I had a choice?' Mason thought he did indeed get forced, but he decided that wasn't important right now.
The pair started killing every single monster that would approach them. Mason had already activated Ice Domain a couple of times, impressing Remi.
Domain skills weren't at the mid-level yet, but they were the strongest of the low-level spells. Mason hadn't used any of his newer spells yet, even the level 12 goblins only had around 700 HP.
Their teamwork started to improve quickly, which was surprising because Mason had never thought about fighting together with someone. He was always alone in his village after all.
After another hour, they finally saw an Orc. Remi had already explained to Mason that Orcs lost the weakness of having a frail body.
Orcs were all-rounders, they weren't good at anything. But they also weren't bad at anything either.
The first Orc they saw was level 13, Mason decided to ask the System how much HP the beast had.
[Level 13 Orc, 1500 HP]
Mason laughed, he knew a single Ice Lance of his could one-shot this beast. He decided not to use it though, as he rather practiced combos with his other skills and his teamwork with Remi.
"Be serious, use your best skills if needed." Remi looked at him with a look of seriousness.
"I will, you do the same." Mason answered with a smile.
They both nodded as they started attacking. Mason used Freeze and Ice Domain first. Remi then followed up with her purple lightning as she attacked the leg of the Orc.
She successfully connected her first hit. Mason decided to play a supporting role in this fight, he got bored of quickly killing everything he fought against.
He saw the Orc throw a punch towards Remi, so he placed two Ice Walls between them. Remi didn't expect the punch, so she almost got hit just now.
Now the Orc's hand was stuck in the wall of ice, she decided to take out her daggers and finish the Orc off.
After 10 seconds and a whole bunch of stabs, the Orc finally collapsed. Remi was exhausted as Mason just smiled.
"Thanks for saving me just now." Remi said to Mason
"Everything for you, my love." Mason teased her a bit.
Remi acted as if she didn't hear him, and decided it was about time to go back. She didn't know how long they had been in here, but she was hungry.
"Lets go out, I'll treat you to dinner."
"That's a cheeky way to ask me out on a date, princess." Mason said jokingly
He decided he would be going to the dungeon every day until classes started. He was serious about being ranked number 1 in his year.
