Chapter 58 - Second Year Start - Part 1

The rest of the last day was spent enjoying their company together to say the least, cuddling was the best term to put it on. They did however do a lot more, like enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner together with Faleah, whom seemed happy whenever she laid eyes on the young couple. It was impossible to not remember her own husband and her own youth when she looked at the two young lovers.

Samuel and Ulma spent every moment of the last day simply enjoying the others company, every last second of their time spent together was pretty much in joy. They were both a bit nervous about going back to the college the next day, but they were certain it would be fine since they had eachother.

Evening came around and Samuel lay in bed looking at Ulma who was in the middle of brushing her long white hair. He thought about how beautiful she was, in every situation she had always been a beauty, even when she had wielded the massive power that day when the Entine's had ambushed him and Alsian.

She was so kind and graceful yet when she had gotten angry she had wielded a tremendous amount of power. Power that others could only dream of, that is how powerful she could be if she truly wanted it. But like nature she didn't use power for the sake of using it, she was vengeful and fearsome like a natural disaster in her anger but calm and kind in her beauty.

Even though some parts of nature hide thorns, more often than not one could find the beauty in all the life. Samuel was honored to have someone that would wield such power in anger for his sake, so he smiled at her as she sat there brushing her hair. Just being happy, something he had never imagined he could be like this.

Eventually she noticed him staring in the mirrors reflection and smiled back with a small question mark on her face. "What are you thinking about?" She curiously said, wanting to know everything he was thinking about. He smiled even brighter at her question, "I was just thinking that you are really beautiful." He replied and a small blush crept emerged on her face as she smiled.

She looked at him thinking that he was the most handsome man she had ever seen, even though he might just be average to others, in her eyes he was truly the most handsome. A kind hero who did his best to protect others at the cost of his own safety. But she wouldn't let him do that anymore, she would stand by his side and shoulder the burdens together.

Ulma put down the brush and let her hair go as she walked up to the bed and lay down next to him, snuggling up to his chest. "Don't forget, you belong to me!" She whispered to him and he nodded as he put his forehead on hers.

They closed their eyes together and fell asleep shortly thereafter.

In the middle of morning they were woken up by the maids who generously helped Ulma prepare dressing her up and helping her get clean. Ulma as a woman did not complain about others helping her fix things like braiding her hair and such things that would take a while when alone and the older maids were more than happy to help her out.

Samuel managed fine on his own though and got himself prepared easily. He was done way before Ul was so he went downstairs to get himself some breakfast, the butlers informed him that Lady Faleah had already left for her duty and had left him a small message to take care and to be careful at the college and ordered him to come home once per month at least and to bring Ulma with him.

When Ulma finally joined him they had a nice short breakfast together, both of them dressed in their college outfits that had magically gained a second stripe to symbolize them as being second year students. The robes/suit style clothes of the academy made for comfort and utility rather than looking fancy, although the nice blue colors of the suits/robes made them look colorfully fancy at least.

Together Samuel and Ulma left the house, where a stagecoach had been prepared to bring them closer to the center of the city. Samuel had wanted to walk the entire way, but Ulma had insisted on taking the carriage and he had relented. She did not enjoy walking much in a city, but she was not afraid to get her clothes dirty walking in a forest.

Samuel bid the house staff that had assembled farewell and they took the carriage that led them into the middle island where they exited on a side road and walked the final minutes together until they arrived at the small teleportation glade. Where they were not surprised to see other students or soon to be students also arriving.

Some first years had older people with them so Samuel assumed that it must be the candidate people for the new first years. Although a bit slow process they proceeded to get teleported eventually and were able to pass through the house of dimension checks faster.

Samuel remembered that the security check had been long the first time he was there and just like last time it was the same now. Probably all the new first years had to be properly checked and having things fixed, just like last year.

Ulma and Samuel were second years in uniform so they could go in a separate line that passed them through in a matter of seconds instead of long minutes wait. It seemed to be a reoccuring event with the general assembly with every new school year, the only difference was that as second years they stood in the middle this time. First years on the left, second in the middle and third on the right.

It also seemed like the mentors did not join second or third years but only first years. The second year assembly was a bit of a mess and neither Sam or Ul could find their teammates before the introduction ceremony began. Much like last years speech it was practically the same and Samuel noticed several first years hanging back when every other class was sent into different groups. Just like the mentors had joined them a bit further away it seemed to be the same this time.

But Samuel and Ulma already knew where they were headed, they had been given instruction and direction a week before so rather than try to find their teammates they headed off toward their classroom.

Suddenly Samuel felt someone bump into him and he looked down to see a short confused half dragodevil kin had bumped into him with what looked like tears beginning to form in her eyes. "Sorry" Was all the young woman said but before she had the opportunity to walk away Samuel had grabbed her by the shoulders.

"Whats wrong?" Samuel asked the girl whose name is Emma Excavar (The middle sister in Sonya's family.) Ulma also took a step forward and held the young woman by the shoulder which made Emma look at them closer.

A flush of relief came over her face when she realized who she had bumped into. "Oh thank the gods.. I had lost my bearings and lost sight of my mentor." She felt like crying but pushed it down as she had found the friendlier faces of her sisters teammates.

"Special candidate first years..." Samuel quickly explained to her where she needed to go, while Ulma felt something more was going on and just looked at the girl with a friendly smile while actually checking her from head to toe.

They were headed in a simillar direction and about halfway an older dwarven woman came running looking for Emma. Emma and her mentor thanked Samuel and Ulma for the help and they saw the dwarf who was a head shorter than Emma just berate her about getting lost on her first day.

It came as no surprise that Sonya's little sister would also be a candidate. Sonya had said that all her siblings were candidates, not because they were the Archons children but because of their rare mixed bloodline that allowed for some unusual powers.

Half Devilkin / Half Dragonkin was an extremely rare combination, most half races were an extreme rarity, it was very hard for certain different humanoids to get children with others. The most sucseptible races among the humanoids were elves and humans. Followed by dwarves and halflings.

There were no other half devilkin half dragonkin students in the college except for Sonya and her siblings after all. They did exist, but they were rare. Most of the students of the college every year were elves, humans, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, dragonkin and devilkin and elemborn. (Elemborn were those in the lineage of different species of genies.)

Genies normally existed in realms outside the mortal realm. But sometimes they visited and consorted with humans. Most Elemborn lineages were strong enough that they carried through the bloodlines for hundreds of years. But Elemborn looked mostly like humans because of it, or whatever other half race they belonged to.

After Emma and her mentor had walked away Ulma quickly tugged on Samuel's arm and he turned to listen to whatever she had to say. "That girl was lost and wander and almost crying because someone had hurt her. She had a nasty new bruise on one of her wrists." Ulma looked Samuel in the eyes.

"I assumed something else was wrong, since she was so distraught. Her bumping into us was probably on purpose to get rid of whomever was bothering her." Samuel nodded with a worried smile and Ulma became surprised, Samuel had not let it shown that he had caught on to other details as well. She smiled proudly at him when he wasn't looking.

"The question though is if we do tell Sonya?" Ulma voiced her inner thoughts and Samuel grabbed her hand and they started walking again, it looked like Samuel was deep in thought and just before they arrived at their building Samuel stopped.

"If we tell her family there will be hell raised over it, let's be prepared to tell Sonya but until we find out more.. we keep it between ourselves and at best case we can make those that did it back off on our own!" He smiled at Ul and she nodded. It sounded like a first plan. "But it does mean we haveto trail her a little bit..." Ulma voiced her opinion again.

"If we don't have the time to do that then we tell others!" Samuel said and they both agreed. They would go check on her as soon as their introduction was over, there was nothing more than an introduction today for the second and third years whereas the first years had the entire rest of the day planned out.
