Chapter 60 - Second Year Start - Part 3

The whole gang of troublemakers quickly ignored the ones they had been pestering and gathered in a semi circle formation but still holding their distance from the two second years that had arrived. "Alright! I gotchu! Money and power can be yours if you want to join our little group! We intend to be kings while we stay here, my father is one of the high masters so before you think about doing anything stupid.. Why don't you join us instead! We are all from influentual families and we are rich." Al the leader of the bullies ranted towards Ulma and Samuel who just looked at eachother while shrugging.

Emma grit her teeth and prepared to cast another spell, but the moment the first feel of magic occured in the air one of the bullies instantly casted a cantrip that made Emma start choking. She felt like she was suffocating. Gasping for air and struggling, her teammates still knocked down or dazed.

Suddenly the suffocation faded and her lungs were filled with air again as she started taking deep gasps for air. The bullies all looked confused for a few seconds before they saw the female second year had casted counter magic to remove the effect. She looked angry enough to make some of the bullies take a step back on instinct.

"Sorry, but I am afraid I don't care!" Samuel spoke and Emma suddenly recognized the first kind voice she had heard in this place. She looked up in both terror and hope, scared for her sisters teammates but hopeful because Sonya had always told her she had amazing teammates.

"Ul dear, watch my back!" Samuel dropped his disguise spell allowing his original appearance to form again. The bullies all started smiling, before he had looked like a rich elven noble, but now he looked like a nobody. A commoner dressed in the academy clothes.

Samuel could almost tell exactly what their gazes meant and a wide grin spread on his face and he unsheated his blade, he couldn't go around killing other students. But he could damn well make their faces unrecognizable. "Ahaha! The commoner thinks to stand a chance against us! Take him out!" Al yelled to his goons.

They all responded in kind by preparing spells or charging forwards. A wide grin was on the face of the student that had knocked down Emma's teammate Fraudren, he could move almost with the speed of lightning, it was his special candidate trait after all. He instantly rushed forward faster than anyone could anticipate and prepared a charged magic punch.

But to his horror the second year in front of him followed him with his eyes. As if he could see him move at the speed he was moving, 'But thats impossible... Is he like me?' The goon was so shocked and confused he completely lost all focus on fighting.

Samuel had learned how to control his eyes to some extent, to see things moving at a slow speed, which allowed his body to react to even the fastest attacks. Almost like time slowed around him. The moment the student had entered a certain range to Samuel his eyes had triggered on their own. He grinned and he sidestepped the incomming punch with ease.

He saw that the idiot had lost all focus on the fight, so Samuel held out his leg to trip the poor bastard at the same time, and lose his footing he did. While he was falling Samuel knocked the flat side of his sword into the back of his head with almost as much strenght as he could muster.

The idiot saw everything suddenly go black as he lost conscience. The exchange had happened so fast that to the others eyes he had in the middle of his charge simply fallen over while Samuel had sidestepped. This made all the other goons really confused as they knew how fast their ally could move.

It made them lose their focus as well, so Samuel didn't let the window of opportunity pass as he charged forth. They all unleashed their simple spells or cantrips toward him. 'Childs play!' Samuel inwardly added as he used his eyes slow vision to coat his sword in magic and cut asunder all incomming spells that moved in slow motion.

Every single person in that room could only look at him with admiration. They had seen someone cutting their magic and spells in half with a sword. Spells that moved really fast as well, Samuel didn't stop his charge and used his sword hilt to knock out the nearest one.

They had all lost their complete focus on the fight, he had knocked out their fastest somehow, he had cut spells asunder with his sword... something that was unheard off to students.

Samuel had figured out during the first year that if he could cast spells with his sword then surely he could cut spells with his sword. He had unintentionally unlocked both sides of swordcasting all by himself, creating spells with weapons and breaking spells with weapons were very much two sides of the same coin. It had taken him many trial and error runs with making the technique work.

So he had tried to perfect his slow vision so it could help him. Indeed it did help a lot as he cut down every spell that flew towards him, dissipating the energy or making it fly behind him and explode at a safe distance.

When he had finished knocking the majority only three remained, Al and two others. The other two quickly decided this wasn't in their best interest and tried to run towards the exit. In their panic they had forgotten about the one still standing near the doors. Ulma dropped her disguise spell and with an unamused look several thorny vines emerged from the floor and ensnared the two that tried to run. Hanging them upside down as Ulma walked forward and stood behind Samuel with a smug grin.

She made sure to leave them upside down in her snaring spell. Al seeing his last two allies go down so easily started backing off nervously looking at them in panic, but then confidence filled his eyes again and he grinned.

"I am Al Genger! Noble and son of High Master Trax Genger. I will tell my father of what you did here and he will make sure you get expelled, all my companions and me will swear it and you will all be finished." He yelled proudly, his eyes showing both fear and confidence.

Both his smile and confidence were replaced in terror when Ulma with a grin took out her recording spell as it slowly replayed the previous conversation. He looked utterly defeated before a glint of madness appeared in his eyes. The moment Samuel saw it he stood in front of Ulma and Emma.

"If I kill you all, then I can get away with it." Al smiled widely and took out a red gemstone which he proceeded to crush with his hand. The moment he did, great magic suddenly emerged and he instantly casted a spell without having to chant any incantation.

In that moment, three or four people instantly teleported into the hall and several teachers that had felt the fight happening with all the magic came rushing in. Looking at Al who unleased a 4th, NO 5th level ball of fire towards a group of students which most of were on the floor.

In the quick moments that passed, Ulma and Emma both worriedly looked as Samuel took a short charge forward right towards Al. In the little time that Samuel had he gathered as much fire magic in his sword. The large ball quickly travelled towards him and he swung his sword in a downward slash and yelled, "FLAME REND!"

What everyone else saw was a madman running towards a huge incomming fireball but suddenly a purple arc flaming slash was released from the young mans sword as he yelled flame rend. The slash travelled forward and met with the fireball, the fireball stopped. But it only stopped because it was struggling in midair against the purple arc.

The clash lasted for only a second before the purple arc suddenly cut through the fireballs center and made the rest of the fire just implode on itself causing no damage to anyone but the floor and walls in the middle of the room. Unfortunately for Al the purple arc was even more powerful than anyone had though and it came flying towards him.

He wouldn't have time to dodge but suddenly the familliar robe of his own father stood in front of him ready to block it. But Samuel had acted even faster than that, he had no intention to kill anyone so even before the High Master had intervened Samuel had gathered as much lightning magic he could in his sword and done a horizontal slash. Lightning was faster than fire.

'Blitz Strike' Samuel inwardly casted his spell and the yellow lightning arc suddenly came flying three times faster than the fire one and just as the fire one was about to be blocked his lightning one reached it and cut it in half making the two spells he casted cancel eachother out before they would hurt anyone.

Several seconds of silence lasted. The High Master stared at Samuel in awe and so did the other teachers, although they probably had even less of an idea of what Samuel had just done. Samuel saw two other High Masters staring at him from a distance. Seeing all the teachers entering as well as some armed soldiers he quickly sheated his blade though.

"Whats going on here?" The first teacher on the scene yelled as he saw all the knocked out students and he fumed with rage, he was the candidate teacher for the new first years and seeing so many of his students knocked out while a second year was standing there made him walk up to him in rage and grab his clothes. "Did you do this?!?" He yelled at Samuel who proceeded to shrug and nod.

"Thats right! He did all this!" Al suddenly yelped and clutched at his fathers robes. With a loud thwack Al was sent flying through the air, his own father had kicked him. "Let that student go William!" High Master Trax Grenger spoke his voice full of anger and authority.

Before anything else started again, Ulma decided to play her magical recording with a smile. Which made all the teachers and guards listen in awe. "We would have called for help if there was time!" Ulma spoke, a half lie half truth. "But they were seriously injuring the others, so we couldn't just sit by and do nothing!" Ulma spoke with dedication and spite which made the teachers realize their prior mistakes.

They had not realized such a thing was going on and then they had all accused the wrong person internally. Thinking the second years were at fault, when they had simply stepped in and done the right thing.

"Get these scum out of here and put them in the jails. Get the Archons daughter and her teammates to an infirmary. The Archon is going to be fuming when he hears about this, so you all better do your jobs properly or I will report it personally!" Trax almost roared at the guards and teachers whom quickly followed his orders, he then turned to his son and looked at him with utmost spite and anger.

"Take this idiot to join his friends, I will personally deal with him later!" Trax ignored his sons pleas and refused to listen to any excuses that came out his mouth, wondering where he had gone so wrong with his youngest son.... all his other children were respectable people, how could such a weed have grown among them.

Trax gave Samuel and Ulma a quick nod of respect. "I will call for you to stand before the Archon later, where you can give your story with all of us there as well. In the meantime however. Thank you for doing the right thing and fighting with such restraint." Trax had not missed Samuel's display and the fact that he was this strong and all the bullies were mostly knocked out and bleeding lightly spoke volumes about his character.

The scene was quickly cleaned up and Samuel and Ulma walked out of there with smiles on their faces, it had been nice to beat up assholes together while saving innocent people from bullies. They clutched eachothers hands together and walked to get something to eat.
