An impressive Primary Mecha was hovering in the air above her. Just being within fifty feet of the powerful mechanism made her insides churn.
Her spirit energy was going haywire but she forcefully swallowed the blood that had risen to her throat from the heavy pressure.
She looked to her child, he looked fine. The ring was a high quality item so she was sure the pressure wouldn't harm him much.
Running forward was useless at this stage so she turned tail and ran with all her might when the nozzle of the Mecha pointed her way.
She ran down the slippery slopes of the forest and ended up encountering the nozzle of another Mecha. She fell to her knees in despair.
The Mecha operator was about to blow their brains to bits when a loud crash sounded and the Mecha was sent spiralling to the ground.
She stood frozen in shock at the arrival of an even more impressive Intermediate Mecha. Just what exactly was going on? She decided not to stay to find out.
Whether the new operator was an ally or not, she didn't care. What mattered most to her was the safety of her child.
Wen Yu looked around in fear. He was wailing loudly but he just couldn't help himself. Being a baby was too much hassle, his emotions were all over the place.
He'd just come to realize the existence of Mecha, for the first time, in this world and yet he was about to be killed by one. His wailing increased. Why was his life so hard?
He watched as his mother kept on running and warmth filled his heart. She looked so tired but there was no way he could help. He was just being a burden and he couldn't even control his loud mouth.
They soon ran into two of the earlier trailers and he cursed loudly. Of course what came out was more baby babble and wailing.
His mother screeched to a stop.
"You really know how to run don't you? Even have people from the top helping you. Let's see how you'd escape this time." One of them said.
Immediately, the air felt extremely stifling. He was protected by the energy dispersing ring so he didn't feel any pressure, but what of his mother?
Wen Fei Fei spat out blood. Her chest ached terribly and she felt her internal organs shift, even her barely healed wounds were beginning to reopen. She resolved her spirit energy around her meridians to lessen the pain but it did very little.
The aggressor was most probably in the Turquoise phase and although that was just a phase above the Green phase, the power of the two were still miles apart.
She gripped her child tighter as she fell to her knees. If only she'd spent more time assimilating spirit force then she wouldn't be so pathetic now.
She smiled as she mocked her own uselessness. She really became too dependent on her husband. She got so used to being protected that she forgot that this was a world where the strong ruled.
The second trailer came forward then and snatched her child from her arms.
"NO!" She screamed. "Please, I beg you, give him back to me. He is only a baby!"
The trailer only scoffed. "No can do Ma'am, he has quite the handsome bounty on his little head." Then he walked away.
The first one: "What do we do about her?"
"Just knock her out and leave her there. We have no orders for her life and that guy would be here soon."
"NO!" She screamed again before she completely lost consciousness.
The next time Wen Fei Fei woke up, she was in a hospital room. She heard voices outside of the room and shook her head gently to clear her mind.
"Ah, it's such a shame. We are still grieving over the loss of our amazing hero and now, barely four months and his son has gone to join him too."
Wen Fei Fei froze. It couldn't be...
"The poor wife. She used to be the envy of every lady in the Federation but now she lost both husband and child under the space of six months. What bad luck."
The door opened and two nurses came in. when they saw her awake, they froze a bit before carrying on like nothing happened.
How could Wen Fei Fei let them go? She quickly stood up and pulled off the wires attached to her arms.
"What were you saying just now? What happened to my child?"
The nurses eyed each other but kept silent.
"I'm talking to you! What happened to my son?!"
Xie Zhi Yuan walked in then. "Shouting at the nurses wouldn't solve anything. It's not like they were the ones who carried a baby into an uninhabited forest."
The Xie family members all calmly walked into the room one after the other. She looked to Xie Zhi Yuan with teary eyes.
"What are you saying? What happened to my child?"
"He was found in the forest, mauled beyond recognition by a low level spirit beast. What did you mean by taking our Xie family's descendant into a forest that was closed off and marked as unsafe?"
Wen Fei Fei shook her head repeatedly in disbelief. "No, that's not true. They were trailers chasing after us. They took my child."
Xie Zhi Yuan humphed angrily. "What trailers? So you think we're all stupid? There was no trace of any trailers and even your car was parked properly by the roadside!"
She continued to shake her head as more tears poured. She walked over to grandpa Xie. "No, grandpa you have to believe me. They were trailers and then some Mecha operators showed up and...."
Father Xie finally exploded. "Mecha operators?! What Mecha operators? Why would Mecha operators show up? Do you know how valuable the Mechas are? Do you not know that they are prohibited from appearing in the Capital unless there is an emergency?"
Luo Ran scoffed. "She must think that walking around with eldest brother-in-law's child counts as an important event that even Mecha operators must show her face. The child even has no talent, was he really eldest brother-in-law's child?"
Xie Han Wei nodded thoughtfully. "That makes a lot of sense. How could my elder brother's child be so talentless? She must have done something behind his back."
They all went on to look at her in suspicion.
Wen Fei Fei nearly exploded. These bastards! What right did they have to question her integrity just when she lost her child?!
She walked back to the hospital bed and sat down. Her legs felt weak and her heart felt empty.
"W..where is he? My son?"
Mother Xie: "Buried of course."
"What do you mean by buried? It's been barely six hours, I didn't even get to see him!"
"What are you shouting for? What did you mean by you didn't even get to see him? Isn't it enough that you caused the death of our Xie family's child?!" Mother Xie shouted with a sneer.
Wen Fei Fei couldn't hold back the blood that slipped past her lips.
