Wen Yu stared wide eyed as the trailer grabbed him from his mother's arms.
No, No, No! What were they going to do to him? His cries only increased as he wriggled in the trailer's arms.
His movements were barely noticed as he was only four months old and couldn't fully control his limbs yet. He cursed being a baby at this moment. There was only so much he could do.
When the trailers got far enough, they stopped and stared at the crying child.
The second with the baby: "What do we do now?"
The first: "What we should do of course. Instructions were to make the death look as natural as possible."
The first's eyes trailed to Wen Yu's wrist. "An energy dispersing ring? What good stuff! Take it off of him quickly and then we could imbue our spirit energy in him and erupt his spirit sea."
"That doesn't seem very natural."
The first sneered. "Are you an idiot? Can you not tell where we are? We'd erupt his spirit sea and then throw him into the territory of a spirit beast!"
"Although spirit beasts don't eat humans, they attack whatever encroaches on their territory. It's a perfect cover."
"Whoever finds him would think the foreign spirit energy belongs to the spirit beast anyways."
The second laughed. "It's a good idea." And then he went on to snatch the ring and place a palm on Wen Yu's plump abdomen to trickle his spirit energy into the baby's spirit sea.
Wen Yu felt cold, very cold. He had lost the protection of the ring and only now did he feel the ramifications of a strong spirit energy.
It was so painful and he was shivering but all he could do was cry harder. His abdomen seemed bloated and he felt blood slip past his lips.
He was a baby! What kind of people would harm a baby?! This universe was so scary. He cried harder as he stared at the second's face. It hurt so much, he hated pain.
The man looked so calm as he stared into the large, teary, eyes of the baby, like he was watching the regular evening news. Nothing special. He clearly didn't see anything wrong with harming a defenseless child.
Wen Yu felt like he was about to be frozen over and icicles were beginning to grow out of his skin. He was about to lose consciousness from the pain when the man suddenly released him and he landed on the ground. A thorn scratched his face but he paid little mind as he was focusing on inhaling air.
The first guy stared at the second, who was now nailed to a tree with a thick branch protruding from his chest, in shock.
What just happened? One minute he was flooding the child's spirit sea and the next minute he flew inexplicably to the tree and died on the spot.
His eyes shook in fear as he looked around the shady forest. He spread out his spirit consciousness but could not detect any presence.
It could only be one of two things. Either the other party was a commoner of D rank potential with no spirit energy or their phase was higher so he naturally could not detect them.
The first guy slowly stepped back. "Who's there?!" When the forest breeze answered him, he turned tail to run.
Remaining there was just plain stupid. Since the other party could not be detected then they were naturally stronger.
He quickly ruled out the possibility of it being a commoner. What would a commoner be doing in a closed off forest?
He'd barely taken ten steps when he felt the hairs at the back of his neck rise in alarm. He quickly turned around and shielded himself with his spirit energy.
BAM!
The two different coloured energies clashed and the first man was sent crashing into a tree. He coughed up blood and held his chest as he straightened.
Magenta Phase! He knew his situation was very bad. He was bleeding from various orifices and he was sure the other party only used around 50% of his spirit energy.
He didn't even know where he was attacked from! He stared around again as his legs shook uncontrollably. "Who are you? Please let me off, I promise you would be rewarded handsomely. The Xie family-"
A scoffed interrupted him and a figure in black jumped down from a tree. "The Xie family?" The figure walked over to the crying child and picked him up.
He was a soldier and had no idea how to coax a crying baby so he just settled for clipping the energy dispersing ring back on the child's wrist and patting him gently.
He naturally knew that today's events were orchestrated by the second uncle of the Xie family while the rest just looked the other way.
But it wasn't just the Xie family. These morons were sent by the Xie family but those restless Marshals sent the Mecha operators. Mecha operators!
How ruthless! There was a spy amongst the representatives so they'd gotten news about the potential of the child as soon as he was tested.
The child had no talent and yet their paranoia wouldn't allow them to let him off. He looked at the crying child as he thought back to the general's awe-inspiring image. How sad.
He quickly finished off the last trailer, disintegrated both bodies and took the child away.
When the authorities arrived, they found Wen Fei Fei's unconscious body and quickly sent her to the hospital.
They searched around for a while and when they were about to give up, they found the mauled body of a baby just outside the edge of a low level spirit beast territory.
The Xie family was contacted but they barely looked at the child before clamoring for a burial, wailing loudly at their loss and cursing Wen Fei Fei for her carelessness.
Even when the authorities tried to convince them to wait a while before the burial, they remained adamant and nothing could be done about it as they were a prestigious family.
No one wanted to throw their entire career on the line because of a dead baby. Cruel as it may seem, they had no connection to the child anyways so why bother?
Even if this was the child of a respected hero, said hero was dead while the Xie family members were all breathing and full of life.
Even a pig would know the right choice to make.
